The number of online creators active today is staggering, and the creator economy is valued at some $250bn by Goldman Sachs. But, as the FT’s Cristina Criddle explains, one key problem is that traffic and wealth tends to be concentrated among the very few. The industry has received mixed financial signals recently, so who’s actually making money and what does the future hold?

Substack has made a massive difference to writers. Maybe that is possible for video

Investment by companies is a poor indicator for growth in this sector. Most creators are solopreneurs who get started on their own. How much has time and engagement on social platforms grown? How much has media spend shifted to creator activations?

I always say...they're hot now but what will happen 10-15 years from now when someone younger and hotter comes into the stream. Careers get stale and I can change jobs when Im burnt out or bored...what will creators do when they're bored or burnt out and still got bills to pay?

Continue to create. You seem to forget that as creators get older, so does our audience. It has nothing to do with being young and hot. Over 45% of top creators are over 30

Calling these people “creators” is demeaning the word creator

AI is not fair for most creators who want to be noticed for their own work. AI can help lazy folks make content that can attract more view’s despite the efforts of dedicated creators. #keepaioutofsnimeindustry
