The Creator Movie Review: A New Sci-Fi Classic?

It's pretty rare these days that we get bold, original sci-fi fare. The fact that Gareth Edwards was able to get The Creator made on a grand scale - by Disney no less (through 20th Century Studios) - is something to celebrate. While it's not quite the sci-fi masterpiece some have hailed it as following the early screenings, it's still one of the better science-fiction movies to come along in the last few years and should elevate Edwards' status as one of the best genre directors in the biz.

Gareth Edwards is a damn fine film maker, his real skill is in FX, bringing in a great look at a good budget. From Monsters to Rogue One he makes what he has work well.

"making it work" for Rogue One? Are you serious? He had 300 million to work with for Rogue One! I'm a big Edwards fan, but hey, he's not exactly been strapped for cash on anything he's done past Monsters.

Two words: 𝐓𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐥 #𝐫𝐚𝐩! I don't leave movie reviews, but to save you the money and time and the Brain-poking here it is: Exclude the graphics, the fight scenes and the acting, and you have a cartoon suited for 5 year-olds. I am not spoiling the movie it was spoiled from the get go. 1) So the western world is on a campaign to eradicate AI, machinery with capacity to behave like humans, because of an atomic detonation that wiped of the great Los Angeles area, which was not the AI's fault per se, since it was "A HUMAN CODE ERROR" in the first place, even though such a human code error could easily take place either accidently or on purpose INVOLVING THE USE OF AI! 2) The military is portrayed as the bad actor for going after the AI, is it though? Or is the military as an industry and mechanism shown to work for the good of humanity as far as the plot of this flick goes? 3) Humans in the Far East area, where the plot takes place are protected by AI to a point of altruism and self sacrifice, whereas westerners don't hesitate to kill humans, adults and children, indiscriminately since they are holed up with their AI buddies? 4) The "hero" of the movie after his warning shot to the knee of his fellow American comrade, executes him point blank to save a robot with the face of a child, goes to extreme lengths to sabotage the mission and sacrifices his own life after wasting time and effort to hijack a plane and reach the multi-billion dollar ship that hovers over the earth and discovers and destroys the AI! Think of Tic Toc and the American patriotic advertisement and you get the picture. Would the acceptance for the AI propaganda work, even if you don't have the brain of a 5 year old? Apparently so for a recent commentator in the New York times who stated in THE TITLE: ‘𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫’ 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰: 𝐎𝐫 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐈 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐀.𝐈." Well friend, you need to watch the "𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫" series a few more times. Now that there was indeed a more realistic movie about how the whole AI Fiasco will turn out. Personally, I couldn't wait for "Dune" to end being that I wasn't watching it alone. The Graphics of "the Creator" will keep things from going absolutely boring till your stomach turns; it may have been the bouncing seat, but for me, Mel Gibson's "The Million Dollar Hotel" is not the worst movie I have ever seen any more.

Yes, but he’s not a very good writer. Creator basically just rehashed the Rogue One plot, with added (kind of weird) AI propaganda. He needs to pair up with a real writer.

isn't it obvious that they are simply skimming those "big budget" movies? every single cgi company complains of how little they get payed, yet those big budget movie producers claim huge budgets because a lot of it goes to cgi, which is a contradiction, so most likely vast majority of that extra cost goes to middle men who keep greasing the execs in parent company to keep ballooning those budgets, corruption 101

Just come in from watching it. Is it perfect? No. Is it a great movie. Yes. Does it have plot holes? Yes. Did I care? No. This is proper science fiction. It takes an issue in science and technology that is current and real and runs with it but never loses its sense of humanity. The visuals are stunning but never replace the small scale details that clutch at the heart..

There’s a conspiracy theory that the Creator script was actually generated by AI, since it’s such an obvious mash-up of preexisting movies, and has so much forced sentimentality and ham-fisted moralism in the script. I don’t really believe that, but I kind of feel like this is exactly the kind of writing you’d get if you told generative AI to write a movie that combined Bladerunner, Logan, Rogue One and Ex Machina - and threw in some pro-AI propaganda to tie it together.

If this film doesn't do well, blame the advertising. There have been multiple ads on TV, and none of them are enough to compel me to see the movie. It's all, BOOM! and BANG! But there is no sense of what the movie is about, other than a lot of action scenes. War between humans and AI? Like in the Terminator movies? Fine. Then give the audience a hint that is what the movie is about.

Honestly the film for me was a late down, it felt like someone chocked in some popular sci-fi / AI plots (Ghost in the shell, Animatrix, a bit of AI, you get a clear sense of these) into an AI and this is what came out, they didn't build anything new on these just copy paste. The movie is lacking some logical narrative sense which is the mistake an AI would make this days as they lack that. The visuals are stunning, but at the same time it looks like someone downloaded off Pinterest some art work and uploaded it to an AI to create the scenes for the movie based on the AI movie script, to the point that if I would go on Pinterest I am almost certain I can find the almost identical elements. SO over all disappointed ☹

Saw the movie. It was a blend of the Star Wars Rogue One story again, combined with a critique of America's post 9/11 invasion of Iraq. Doesn't make it a bad movie, but it is not a real exploration of AI or the dangers of AI. "AI/Robots" are essentially another human ethnic group, with the same thinking and motivations as humans, which makes them an allegory not a real exploration of how robots/AI might interact with humanity.

It's neither bold nor particularily original. It tackles some big themes, and doesn't do much with them. There's a great amount of things happening for plot reasons, some painfully missjudged attempts at humor and forgetable characters. Ai and synthetic life is represented in a very rudimentary fashion. It really bothers me that ai life is just people made out of machine and computer parts, with all the inherent traits and limitations of regular humans. There's so much that just doesn't click that I can't go through without spoiling the damn thing. Visually, it is quite obviously inspired by japanese animation, good japanese animation, nothing to complain about there. It's a good looking action flick it you don't think abou it too much, but it hints at trying to be a hard sci fi epic, adn it just doesn't have the philosophical chops for that.

Edwards knows how to shoot a great looking movie without hemorrhaging money. The Northman cost $90M (good movie but how did they spend that much? I was shocked. It'll never recover its money and killed any notion of Independent minded art films with big budgets ever getting traction). The Marvels $275M (It'll suck and fail). Dial of Destiny $300M (Jesus christ just stop). Very excited for The Creator.

I was put off watching this when I discovered that the explosion used the real life beirut explosion with some added CGI - why would they do that?

Because the jesuits that unfortunately control the news, media & movies, wars etc are definitely a satanic death cult of factions coming together, jesuit network *Beirut...* They compare the explosion 💥 to Hiroshima & at that time it was the *75th Hiroshima Anniversary,* *Beirut = 75* *Hiroshima bomb = 75* #gematria
