Tom Brier is a musical genius. So sad about his accident, really hope he finds a way back to the piano now that he's in therapy.

Even if unable to play at his old skill and speed, hopefully he might be able to enter rags into a recording medium.

Despite the rarity, to me, it is the best Tom Brier composition. The Halloween mood is prevalent.

Man, you should've asked Ron O'Dell for the midi file from the player piano performance xD I actually have that one! By the way, if you really want this to sound good then try using Staccatissimo instead of Staccato (shortens the note by 2/3 instead of 1/2 so you get a better snap), use Marcato as an accenting articulation to bring out the melody a bit like Sibelius does when a midi file is exported. The results will be even better! Nice job with this!

I didn't know those old school Tavern Pianos were called player pianos. Had to search it. That was a fantastic piece. I didn't know who Tom Brier was before this but I hope they recover well.

Check on Keeper1st, and be prepared to be amazed! He is the most amazing sight-reader/ragtime pianist I've ever seen! His improvisations are out of this world, and so are his ragtime compositions. Too bad most of them, sheet-music wise, will never be available to the public, unless someone transcribes them by ear, which I could easily do.

A player piano is one which has the ability to play itself, usually from paper music rolls. If a player piano has a keyboard (most of them do), it can also be played by hand in the normal way.

@@andrewbarrett1537 also known as a pianola. I'm really lucky to have one donated to me through someone's will although A6 and Ab6 both don't work. They're super cool though and I've got a bunch of scrolls.

@@banj4356 Actually, a Pianola is a player piano built by Aeolian and the term is misused all over as a nickname for player pianos, which it is not.

Just curious, amirite that this means that Brier composed and punched it at a old recording player piano, but no MIDI or score or even known extant piano roll. And what we see here for a score and rendition is your transcription from a video of a player piano replaying it, and a MIDI playback of the transcription. Cool piece -- it seems such a shame that Brier left it that far from transcription (but such a boon that you transcribed it). It is to wonder how many fine rags have been lost to history from ragtimers altogether, or almost so except for some fluke.
