Implying children were not supposed to be in this is ridiculous. Important context, which I have seen no one talk about: The photos are styled to look like part of the documentary photo series "Toy Stories" which the photographer they hired has done for YEARS. The photos he takes for this series are of children around the world, with their favorite toys laid out around them. When he posted that he had done this shoot for Balenciaga, he originally said that he did this as part of his Toy Stories series. So using children was absolutely planned here. It also adds contextual meaning to the photos: The stuff laid out around them is supposed to be their favorite toys, what they like to play with. In some of these photos that was bondage tape, leashes and stuff like that. How is that not deliberate. Absolutely disgusting and I hope this is investigated.

This is a really good point and I think it should be talked about more. I did a bit of digging and found the photographer's twitter where he made a thread addressing the accusations. According to him, he didn't choose the subject matter, he only set up the lighting and took the shot. He also claims that the photo with the court case wasn't by him. That being said, at least in my opinion, it doesn't absolve him from being involved in this. He's still complicit because he easily could've seen what was going on and walked away, even if he had a contractual obligation or something. He, along with everyone else up the chain, should be held accountable for letting something like this slip through the cracks. It’s really not that much vetting. My brother worked for a certain online outlet brand I don’t want to say because it could dox him. Multibillion dollar company, though. This brand worked with children modeling, though. Kids would come in with parents for shoot and the promotion would be up within a couple days. Maybe 6 actual employees would deal with the creative. This was a planned out photo shoot. The person(s) responsible for the set deliberately added those things which means time, effort, and thought went into this. These bears are creepy af. No you do not shock people using child abuse. That is how you go bankrupt. I'll also say I've bought higher end expensive clothing before. Outside of the very high cost, a lot of the clothing is fragile. You cannot wear as a daily item for a lot of those things. From what I've heard, the photographer is one of those libertarian types (think Andrew Ryan from Bioshock). He had an old post in his post history questioning why child pron was illegal when we allow guns. As a fashion design major I never really liked anything Balenciaga puts out and I never will. I'm more of a Betsy Johnson type of person if I had to pick one designer that I like the most.
