Wonderhussy, Google Maps locks certain areas. If you ever saw the movie "Lake House'. They built the house and then removed it from a Cook County IL Forest Preserve, but Google Maps still shows the house that was built. I understand that it is now a fishing pier. Google maps can lock the satellite view of areas. You are not losing your mind. Google Maps does this.

That would be a interesting project to fix up that shack to make it inhabitable. It would only take a day, 3 guys, and about $250 and it could be as cozy as it once was. All of those rocks is a ton of work. All that stuff outside is stolen goods that some thief didn't want at his house, incriminating evidence that could put him in jail, so he dumped it out there. Thanks for sharing.

If it were cleaned up it wouldn't be a bad place for an overnighter. At least it doesn't look too vandalized, just very neglected over the years. No graffiti, thank God. That wood stove made from a 55 gallon drum looked interesting. I wonder how well it worked?

in reference to the "purple bottle " Sarah Jane, the true color of glass,especially back when that whiskey bottle was made, is Aqua blue. That's why there are more of those laying about more than any other color. The bottle makers had to add Manganese, (not magnesium like most think) to make the glass clear. Prolonged exposure , a LOT of it ,of ultra violet light (the Sun) will turn the glass Amethyst . If you've been in a number of antique stores, and I'm sure you have , you'll see bottles that are REALLY, REALLY , deep purple, (but the coloring is sporadic and un-even) and this is from exposure to extreme heat from an oven , or some have even achieved this by X-ray exposure. Those bottles are worthless, no real collector would want them. I wish your friend good luck in her search for an intact one. I've been looking for one for 40 years, and even though I've dug HUNDREDS, of bottles , I've never been lucky enough to find an intact "sun-colored" one. My prized bottle is the top half and bottom half (it was shot with a gun) and the middle was gone, is an A. B. Stewart medicine bottle , embossed with BODIE, Ca. clearly visible, and is a very pretty shade of Purple. An identical bottle is on display in the Bodie Museum . Long-winded, I know , but digging bottles WAS my forte, until it became illegal ("Desert antiquities Act). And as always, SJ ...the hills STILL have eyes .

Well I guess this would be a conspiracy theory but many people believe, because what your experiencing with this cabin has happened ti them, that while something is obviously in a spot that the can record the exact GPS they cannot find it on Google Maps, although they have been there and touched it. Some people believe that for, for whatever reasons, Google Maps has been asked to hide it. Most often given reason is that its not a difficult place to reach but if eay to find on the map would be used by people looking to do something nefarious like use it for a meth lab. Some reason that often these places are near mine entrances that can be very dangerous and should not be ventured into and after authorities have ended up on several rescues where people broken away the obstacles put up to keep them out they asked that it not show up on a map for others to go to. Sticking with the gold theory others say that actually someone has found a mine or tunnel that has lead to a gold deposit and so that is why its removed from the map. Least a couple of those are plausible, Others say that these places that are there when you go to them but not there when the satellite looks are really in some sort of a time flux so can be there and not be there if you understand what they mean. ot the most plausible at all unless you are really into that sort of thing. When Google has been asked and even shown evidence their explanation is that some of the satellite shots taken all over the world are decades old and thing built after the photo just will not be there. That is pretty plausible as a wooden shack would age pretty drastically and possible look older than it was. Had it been adobe or some other material you could argue that it had been there before the first satellite ever went by, but even with a marker that has the date of 1987 it's very possible that the last time that desert was photographed was long before that. In very populated areas or ones that have a lot of reason to be photographed a lot - there maybe a new pass or a photo as much as ever year while the empty desire may not get a 'fly by' in decades. This is one reason spots like this do get picked for meth labs and other illegal activities...nobody is looking :)

I found your cabin using Google Earth. (I will not give the coordinates here.) It is indeed near the fabled underground cavern of gold you mentioned in your video. As far as I can tell that cabin has been there at least since 1994, but the earlier satellite imagery is not very detailed as the more recent two taken in March 2013 and July 2016. It is interesting that there are no observable abandoned vehicles in any of the stored satellite images I viewed. So, the VW you saw must have been put there after the latest image of that area. There are also lots of mines in that area, so I am guessing that gated mine shaft was a prospect tunnel dug by whom ever built that cabin. Might even still be an active claim, hence the sign... Anyway, I do very much enjoy your videos Wonderhussy! Thank you for posting them. 😊

Google satellite maps do not have that much resolution. They just enhance the images to make them look better, but they only show objects about five feet in diameter.That cabin is barely large enough to show up. That coupled with the unpainted wood and stones, probably camouflages it enough, to make it invisible on the satellite images.
@olddog6105 жыл бұрын
That cabin appears to be about 16 x 26 ft. That would give it about 384 ft of flat roof. Certainly big enough. The color would make it more difficult to see.

I did run into a meth lab in the Mojave back in the early 1970's. At least that is what we concluded because of the "biker dude" standing in the middle of the road with a Winchester Model 1894 pointed in our direction. Luckily for us both my friend and I were "packing heat". He rudely informed us we were on private property (which we weren't) and we best leave posthaste. Take care Wonderhussy.
