This story has always been very near and dear to me, and I hope I was able to do it justice in my delivery of it. I decided to make this on a whim and I’m very happy with how it turned out. Hope you enjoy :)

I love the Robert Service poetry. I was reading his poetry aloud to a group of young adults at a party at church (I was a young adult at the time) a young redheaded woman walked through as I was reciting my favorite Robert Service poems and after we were married ( we've been married 48years now) she told me she thought I was so weird. Lol it was a big building and I didn't beg anyone to listen to me, they just gradually gathered and listened.

That was awesome ! I had never heard it before. And I love how you set the camera on the woodstove. That was a really nice touch. You have an amazingly deep voice for such a young man. It's kind of freaky. How you must have loved when your Dad read that to you and your sister. 11/2/23 ~ ETA: Mick, I just listened to this again. I love audiobooks and you would be amazing as a narrator of audiobooks. You should look into that cause it would give you additional income as well as give you something splendid to do with your downtime in those long Alaskan winters. Check it out ! You got a gift, you may as well use it.

That was a blast. Haven’t heard that poem in forever. As for content, I’m 58, so I’m really enjoying seeing how someone of your generation tackles living that lifestyle. I enjoy cabin building stuff a lot, but I’m also finding I enjoy seeing what’s important to you and how you prioritize. It helps me to imagine how future generations will put their own spin on “the old ways”.

Such a nostalgic trip down memory lane! Back in the early 1970s, I used to listen to this poem and others like it on the record 'The Spell Of The Yukon' with Stuart Hamblen. I'm likely around your dad's age, and it warms my heart to know he's passing on these wonderful poems to the next generation. Your reading was fantastic. I'm sure many of us would be thrilled to hear you read more poems and stories.

Thank you for reading this poem, it to holds a special place in my heart. My uncle used to read it to us as we sat around a campfire.. like your father.. he too had a gift to read. A few years after the last reading I sadly lost my father, I was devastated. My father was a bush man and alway preferred the North, he truly missed being there in his later years. The day came where we had to set things up for his memorial, my uncle asked each of us if there was something we would like done or read etc at his service. Each person had their say and soon my uncle looked at me and said, do you have any last requests. As odd as it was I asked my uncle to read “The Cremation Of Sam McGee”, he agreed. At my father’s memorial my uncle mentioned to all that he had a special request from one of his children. He went on to say it seemed odd at the time, the night before he pondered, it all came clear. He said “My brother very much was like Sam McGee in many ways, often being so cold he was never sure to make it home”. So.. he then read the poem, not a dry eye at the service, many agreed it was perfect. A bit of a long story but I wanted to let you know the poem has special meaning to many others. You did a wonderful job.. many thanks again.

Reciting tales like that about the history and magic of Alaska as winter comes in is different and special, and you have the gift of a narrators voice. Hope to hear more. Loved the special effects and reading with a fire. Maybe Edgar Allen Poes “ The Raven”, or something similarly scary from Alaska on Halloween?

Brought back a long forgotten memory for me. My Uncle John, a World War II vet, occasionally mentioned the Cremation of Sam McGee, though I don't think I ever had the opportunity to read it. He died in 1991. This poem was just the type of thing that would have appealed to his sense of humor. Best Wishes and Thanks for the smile I will wear for the rest of the night.
