That's how a lot of Caribbean people talk to their children, whether they're Black or not. I know some Caribbean people of East Indian descent that speak that way. One of my former co-workers father is Chinese-Jamaican. They did not get along when he was younger because of the way his father spoke to him. Now that he is older, they get along.

My moms was the antithesis of typical barbaric parents. I’m born in the 70’s well before Haitian parents became civilized and she was viewed as soft and unable to control her offspring. A kind and patient woman who understood the power of words. My cousins were berated, made to kneel on rice, whipped with electric chords as we didn’t have riguaz. The beatings I witnessed were child abuse. Period

I know numbers in 4 languages and the Creole/French number system is the worst of them all. 70 = Sixty-ten 80 = Four twenties 90 = Four twenties and ten Man, I know Haitians were happy when we hit the 21st century just so they ain't have to say "Mil nef san katrevendisnef" or "disnef katrevendisnef"
