The Crest of Southern California

January 16th, 2023: The Angeles Crest Highway is a section of California State Route 2 that runs 66 miles through the rugged San Gabriel Mountains. Here are my impressions of this scenic road, along with some history and relevant facts. I compare it to CA 39, which I've driven before.

Best Scenic California hwy is 395 Starting in the desert traveling north to the Amazingly beautiful Eastern Sierra Nevada mountains. Cool towns along the way, Lone Pine which has the Alabama hills as well as the highest mt in the lower 48....Mt Whitney. Bishop, Mammoth Lakes, June lake loop, Mono lake etc all beautiful......must see

I just drove a portion of US 395 and camped in the Alabama Hills just outside of Lone Pine! I also checked out some nearby sights. I will be posting content from this trip sometime soon. Subscribe so you don't miss it!

I'm not sure if its before or past Islip Saddle but there's the Angeles forest highway which takes you to the high desert side of the mountains towards Palmdale.

I'm glad you're in the area! You started 20 miles away from my apartment. stay safe on the rides Crocman! I would also recommend the 74 which starts near diamond valley lake and ends near palm springs.

Really beautiful! It was windy in SoCal last night. I’m glad you got video of it after rain. I forgot what the road is, but the road to the Anzo Borrego Desert in San Diego through the mountains is pretty. My mom was born and raised in Orange County like me and has videos from route 39 that was closed in 1978. She was a teen in the 70’s and her bf at the time was an outdoorsy person and I guess they were on a road trip on that shuttered highway in the 70’s. It’s nice and looks like any other mountain road here in SoCal. If you do come back I’ve got a famous recommendation here in OC for you: Ortega Highway which is supposedly haunted. I’ve driven it once and I hate it lol.
