I remember this like it was yesterday. It was Dec 23, 1959. The acts were The Crests doing ‘The Angels Listened In’, Santo & Johnny doing their hit instrumental’Sleepwalk’, and solo artist Larry Hall doing his #11 hit song ‘Sandy’. I remember it so vividly because I was 9 years old, my brother Wayne was 8 1/2 years older, and Larry was Wayne best high school friend. My parents had an expensive reel to reel tape recorder and Wayne and Larry would bring be beautiful girls over and Larry would record songs. Larry performed on American Bandstand again on Mar 18, 1960 but none of his other songs made the charts. He retired, moved to Pedee, Oregon, and ran a 120 acre ranch with his family until he died from cancer Sept 24, 1997. He was a GREAT HUMAN BEING!

Oh yes, I have all the Crests LP's and also these on CD's. These were all beautiful simple songs which remind me when I was a teenager. Of course, I have all these early rock LP's and 98% on CD's. Someone here wrote that this was an interracial group, John was an Italian, there were two guys from the US and one Hispanic who was a Puerto Rican by the name of Harold Torres. John had a beautiful and potent voice and the background chorus was very simple but very harmonic. I was sad when I heard that John passed away some years ago. I do not know about his partners, but wherever they are...thank you for making our lives a lot sweeter and happier with your voices. My goodness, how much I enjoy listening to my old rock music from the 50''s, 60's, 70's and some of the 80's. The rest...we can very well do without them.

Maestro had such a smooth and well balanced voice. Not nasal or throaty, just clear and resonant. One of my earliest vocal influences, along w/ Ton Williams (Platters) and a few others. I used to sing this stuff in Jr. & Sr. high school and everyone thought I was kinda strange and they nick named me Song Bird. RIP Johnny Maestro.

I was 14 years old and I was crazy about this girl. luckily I caught her eye , she was so cute. we listen to all these songs from this era and and danced our feet off. what a great time . I was so fortunate that this pretty little thing thought enough of me to be my bride. our whole lives we listen to music it was a part of us. we were married 47 years and she was the love of my life. unfortunately my beautiful bride lost her battle with cancer. it makes me sad sometimes to listen to this music but it also is my link to my love.

If you don't own "Greatest Hits of the Crests", get it. Johnny Maestro made music for us to enjoy for 50 years. A true pioneer in the music world. Very few people mention or know that the Crests were one of the first interracial groups in Rock and Roll. Johnny, an Italian, two African Americans, and an Hispanic. The other ground breakers were Norman Fox and the Rob Roys, and the Del Vikings. It is unclear who was first, not that it matters. God Bless and keep you Johnny.

Johnny had a thing for Angels and Paradise. He's there now working his magic. After all, we're listening to this song right now.

Finally. Someone else who studies the 'backups' and how they move. That's how I fell for Nedra.

I remember seeing Johnny and The Brooklyn Bridge (Dell Satins) at a free outdoor concert at the World Trade Center Plaza about 15 years ago. My daughter was in grade school and we had a great time listening to Crest songs along with hits by the Brooklyn Bridge. Thousands of people spent their listening to the concert and they went wild every time they finished a song. Great memories (sad also) and thank you for posting.

The angels listened in, when they heard me praying The angels listened in, when they heard me saying "Please send me some one to love Send the one I'm thinking of. " My darling, the angels sent you The angels listened in, when they heard me crying The angels listened in, there's no denying They sent one with lovely charms One who really thrills my arms, My darling, the angels sent you. I searched everywhere Just to find someone who cares They came down to interrupt Just as I had given up. The angels listened in and brought you near me The angels listened in, I love them dearly. They gave me the whole wide world Wrapped up in one little girl, My darling, the angels sent you.

Thank you FastFreddie. I was born in '47 and haven't heard good music with rare exception since the 1980s. Kudos to our multi-color family and the DECENT family members.

I remember Johnny Maestro showing up at the Cloud Nine in Farmingdale Long Island in the seventies. He was still a huge hit then. Packed the place every night. One of the best!
