Don't put all your eggs in one basket is the moral to this story.

Economist JAMES TOBIN won a Nobel for that one, to wit, ''Straight after winning the Nobel prize in 1981 for his work on portfolio theory (or why investors choose some assets over others), James Tobin was asked by reporters to explain his ideas - simply, please. The professor bravely gave it a go: 'You know, don't put all your eggs in one basket.' Sure enough, the next day's front pages read: "Economist wins Nobel for saying, 'don't put eggs in one basket'." Tobin's theories are more complex, of course.'' 🤣

I must say i do love this film. Ive seen it 4 times now and it really is a guilty pleasure of mine. By far one of the best made for TV films ever. And what are you guys talking about with all these bad acting comments?? The acting is just fine. In fact i think the films lead (Brian Dennehy) is fantastic in this. He is a young man who handles the role very well. He is the main player of the film, he is in virtually every scene (which can be stressful for an actor) and he nails his role brilliantly. He really captures the naive starstruck new employee vibe and then we see him slowly turn into a typical wall street sleazeball. I thought his performance was great. Anyways, this is a fantastic movie for anyone interested in the Enron scandal. And its free too. What's there to complain about? Great upload.

+Wogsy Kirk hi dude just checked this out now. I think the lead young guy must have been mike farrell because Brian Dennehy is a well known tv actor and made a lot of movies too (first blood -(Rambo first movie) (as the local towns bad sherrif)) and is the grey haired older big boss who has put on a lot of weight who gets drunk on whisky at the end of this film. at first I thought the main actor was a young Will Farrel from Ireland but when I saw this tv movie I realised its not the same Farrell. the acting was cheesy but its good for a TV film with less expectations. not bad ,very entertaining though. Especially as the movies made about the 2008 world wide crash of Wall Street and housing collapse gave rise to amazing films I recommend like the fall of Lhemen Brothers (outstanding film) and the popular Wolf of Wall Street with di Caprio . There was another film with Kevin Spacey and Ben Aflek which was a favourite film on yuppies and failed jobs/ layoffs and affluenza during the 2008 recession but cant remember the title now it was also outstanding thoroughly recommended. I also recommend the book by oliver james called "affluenza" it will blow you away. its an important read about materialism and affluent people and yuppies in this modern world.Having watched these its a good time too to watch the u-tube videos/ docus here about "Materialism/ and "Minimalism". Ive been into minimalism for years now and dam it really makes life easier and especially easier stress wise, easy maintenance and easier cleaning your home with less shit,"you don't own shit shit owns you" As a minimalist I live next to a liberal lefty PC hoarder and the local town council do fuckall about it?. I just want to kill the selfish cunt. hoarding is a disease. 5% of Britons hoard shit in the UK. its a sick materialistic society. There is one common denominator with Enron, the crash of 29, the depression, the housing crash, the 80s crash, the Federal Reserve, and every crash since America began, not to mention every war. What? The elites that control the world, they caused it all to not only collect more wealth, more power, but to keep the average guy just where he is, struggling to make it. But never will. They let the little man drive up the stocks, or pay for the bank bailouts, and they make billions. They send men in to crash the bank. While huge bonuses are paid to top tier executives, then after they drain it, they tell the government to give them the money they themselves stole. Then, the government gies to the Fed. And, the elites own the Fed. Which loans the money, at huge interest, and the receive billions, to again give themselves. Who pays? The average working man. In taxes.

Sherron Watkins is the sister of my sister-in-law. Sherron's sister, Julie, is married to one of my older brothers. I've dined at Sherron's house multiple times. She's a very gracious person and a gourmet cook. What I found so interesting in talking with Sherron was what she knew. She personally told Ken Lay about the "cooked books" and that an independent accounting firm needed to do a thorough audit of Enron. He ignored her advice, having Enron's retained, in-house, accounting firm, Ernst & Young perform the audit. Of course, Sherron knew the audit would be skewed, favoring Enron. She told me how Andy Fastow turned from an affable guy into a ruthless shark. He tried to seize Sheron's computer while Sherron and her husband, Rick, were on a scuba diving vacation. Ken Lay's secretary liked Sherron, and she told Sherron to leave her computer in her, Lay's secretary, custody, as she knew what Fastow was capable of doing. When Sherron returned, she no longer had her cushy private office, but was relegated to a very small, windowless room that was no more than a closet. I told Sherron that Enron's higher-ups were trying to run her off and to not give into them by quitting. The client entertainment of which she told me was over the top. Once, Sherron had to arrange a paintball guerilla warfair type of outing for clients at a Houston paintball facility. She said that she was hurt by the paintball barrages she received. She told me that Enron employees, men, would take male clients out at night to a strip bar called Rick's, running up $10,000.00+++ tabs. Even an Aspen get-away was arranged where she had to find her way at night to a certain lodge. It was all a game, but it frightened her very much, skiing alone in complete darkness, trying to find the destination, a lodge. Again, it was all a game to Enron, regardless of the monetary cost. She cashed out after waiting and waiting, and she finally left Enron. Thank God, Sherron did not heavily invest in Enron, so she had little to lose and little to gain. Also, Sherron had a real fear that Andy Fastow would seek revenge. She feared that he would have her house torched. He never did that. Suffice it to say, Sherron Watkins's experience at Enron left a very bitter taste in her mouth.

I wonder how long it will take until they make the Theranos debacle into a movie...
@yamato61142 жыл бұрын
They kind of already did but as a TV show - The Dropout on Hulu.

Surprisingly good film - obviously as a TV movie they couldn't go as far as The Wolf of Wall Street did - but all the same elements are there - greed women - deceit and snazzy cars.

Also laughing at all the people bitching about this being shot in Winnipeg, Canada... Does it somehow make a difference if the movie is filmed in a different location than where it actually took place? Do you know that this is done with nearly every single movie? In fact, most major American hollywood films that get released in theatres are shot in Toronto. The majority of the acting is commonly done in Canada because it's cheaper, and those are the films with multi-million dollar budgets. This is not a hollywood blockbuster with a multi-million dollar budget.

For the people that think this is supposed to be the same as the movies that they are used to today must be children or living under a rock- this film was over a decade ago lol and I hate to admit this, as a proud 90s kid, but our movies had a cheesy/low budget vibe and a lot of the times it just makes the movie that much better- reflecting the era. They aren’t worried about yalls critiques lol this has been out forever and I know for a fact that most people tuned into this and were hooked like my parents and I. When yalls generation gets a little older you’ll see that everyone’s time on earth isn’t the exact same as yalls. Lol especially considering that these dudes are all 50+ now lmfao 😭

Nothing like a fraud to make it look like you are successful; with the help of the accountants that certify your book. Remember, at Enron there were no limits except what you put on yourself. If you bought a box of paperclips, you'd include it as an asset and a profit.

Most of the middle-upper execs made millions as California went without power, and none of them ever faced charges. They made more in a month than an honest laborer would make in a lifetime. Turns out in America, screwing over your fellow citizen works out just fine and the honest man is a total mug. The "burn baby burn" sales guy buys a $1 million mcmansion; while the railroad workers loses his pension. I'd say being an a$$hole works out just fine in the USA!!
