To this day the Aberfan disaster remains a deep cultural wound for Wales. The community has never really recovered. Record rates of ptsd, bed wetting and sleep disorders. The anger felt was one of those rare moments where a previously calm river just exploded. Wales has historically always been ill treated and almost forgotten as one of the UK countries. The disdain with which that community and the country in general was treated by the national coal board is disgusting. Cymru am byth. RIP to all who affected by the Aberfan disaster. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

To this day, from primary school, every child in Wales is taught about how horrific and significant this disaster was. They call the children that died ‘the lost generation’ and that thought alone is absolutely heartbreaking

This is probably my favorite episode of the series. It’s so powerful, wept through the whole thing. I spent the next several weeks reading about the disaster.

Aberfan took 144 lifes, only 28 of them were adults. There were so many deaths that they were buried in mass funerals and parents didnt know where their babys layed

I'm part Welsh and used 2020 to help me reconnect to my heritage. I started learning the language and trying to figure out where my ancestors lived in Wales. Ever since then, I make a point of bringing up Welsh holidays and days of importance. As a result, more of my friends are digging into their own Welsh heritage and learning to appreciate and honor parts of Welsh history too like Aberfan.😔🙏

I wasn’t ten years old, but I remember the U.S. Life magazine pictorial coverage of the disaster. It was gray and black and horrible. It may have been a one year anniversary remembrance issue. It spoke of how hard it was for the surviving children and their families. They always felt their neighbors eyes saying, “Why did you survive and my child die.” That is what I remember.

This happened to my family. My uncle survived and in their grief the families of those that that lost loved ones took it out on them and families of other survivors. Thankfully though Aberfan always has been and always will be a united village and survivors’ families for the most part understood their losses. It’s left a deep scar in my hometown and we just want justice. It’s a harrowing thing to deal with every October but the international support really is felt. My nan helped clear rubble and has awful PTSD but always expresses her gratitude for everyone’s love.

My Great Grandfather Ray Gaul was a dock hand in Cardiff Docks on the day the disaster struck. Every man grabbed his shovel to go help. Everyone in South Wales came to help those who were effected.

The song you heard the children learn is a hymn- all things bright and beautiful. I used to sing this in morning assembly at school. It’s a tough episode. Glad to see you back and hope you are well.

Cofiwch Aberfan hen. We must always remember Aberfan, not only for the lives lost, but for a devastated community denied justice, who were robbed by their own government looting their donated disaster fund to subsidise the clean up, who were abandoned at every turn by those that should have done all in their power to bring justice and closure.

They shot a scene if the crown near my house, about the disaster. I lost an uncle at Aberfan and I cried all week knowing they were making a scene just one street away from mine.

The UK = England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Four constituent countries. All with their own unique Culture, Historical figures, National Anthems, and Institutions. Wales is even home to the native British language now known as Welsh (Cymraeg) in the English language.

Aberfan is in Wales (Cymru) not England. The best thing I can advise if you’re more interested in Wales is look into African American Paul Robeson and his history with the welsh. Also the church bombing in an all black church in… Georgia (I think) in the 1960s? It’s interesting.

This was a widely felt, legit criticism of Elizabeth - she obliterated every trace of her own personality from the Monarch to the point of not allowing space for empathy for her people - and she wasn't ever very warm to begin with. She did the same thing when Diana died. She just couldn't see the reason for the Crown showing, or being shown, vulnerability and didn't understand why anyone would want the Sovereign to be human.

You know The Crown is fictional right? I am from Aberfan and HM The Queen showed real emotion when she came. Don't believe everything that you see on Netflix.

I'm no royalist. However, the queen was advised to stay away from Aberdeen as it was thought her presence would be a distraction. What she felt in private we don't know, but this is a tv programme.

There was another great loss of life during WWII at a fallout shelter in Bethnal Green. 174 dead, mostly children. It was all due to a panic.

The disaster at Aberfan (pronounced Abervan) was caused when days of rain caused an already dangerously - and illegally - piled Coal Stack to collapse. It resulted in a landslide that buried the village under tons of coal, including the school.| This isn't fiction, it actually happened, those kids really died.

In the US, for my generation, the question is :'Where were you when Kennedy was shot?'. For us Welsh, it was : 'Where were you when the mountain slid?' I was playing pinball in a cafe. On the news, they asked people to stop turning up to help, as they had more volunteers than they could cope with. The English/Brits have a lot to answer for - they're stiil pretending to have a 'Prince of Wales'' - it's just lies and propaganda all the time, and we still don't believe them .Caio Evans and the Free Wales Army had to threaten the Welsh office with violence if they didn't release the money donated to those poor parents. The message was delivered in person by Cai, and the parents received a partial payment within days, if my memory serves me right. Well done, the FWA!

Some people express shock and sadness not by showing upset but by laughing innapropriately or using dark humour. Everyone reacts to tragedy differently. I personally find it hard to be emotional and so I express it differently.

Who the hell thinks a volcano is going to erupt in England?! England has no Volcanos, and the only ones they do have are extinct! Also, this is Wales, not England, but Wales doesn't have Volcanoes, either.

Wiki says the spill involved 140,000 cubic yards of slurry. Imagine 140,000 kitchen ovens come crashing down on a school and house row. Don't ya love when a funeral is interrupted by ads?
