US mechanic here. The front license plate holder is riveted on from the factory. Those were rivets you cut off. They're like really heavy duty pop rivets with big heads. You drive the center out, then drill the head off. You even showed the back side of it 8:59 , it splits into three pieces, rather than just crushing like a normal pop rivet. Ford has a fetish for using rivets. You'll find all sorts of things riveted on, especially inside of each door. I keep a box of those special rivets for doing Ford door handles and window regulators, though you can use normal ones. The thing with the headlights staying on might simply be a sticking headlight relay. Although some of these might have been equipped with daytime running lights that are basically on all the time. Though that doesn't explain why they turn off when you play with the switch. Not sure. When it happens next, open the relay box under the hood and start smacking the relays and see if the headlights turn off. As for the misfire, these Fords always, always, ALWAYS need ignition coils. Next time you order from RockAuto, order at least a set of eight ignition coils (I would order two sets of different brands). Trust me. Keep at least a few in the 'boot' in case of breakdown. You'll go through them, they simply don't last, even from the factory. But now you have to deal with crap quality Chinesium. And if you replace them, keep any old ones that were working! In my shop we literally have a milk crate full of used Ford ignition coils just because they go bad so often that we need some around for diagnosis, and the occasional customer that is financially challenged. They will also work intermittently sometimes. Another very common issue is that the plastic intake manifold (which flows coolant) will crack and start leaking coolant into the spark plug wells, causing misfires. Expect to buy a whole intake manifold at some point (big box to ship from the US). I've heard people say to avoid Dorman. Which, yeah, I've installed a bunch of Dorman intakes just because that's what was available, but I can see what they mean. The last one I bought from RockAuto was AutoTecnica, which at least appeared to be marginally better quality than Dorman. Time will tell.

that's interesting about the rivets - I assumed as it had a couple of in service thumps needing new front wings/fenders the bumper would have been replaced too. Ive used bolts just like them in the house screwing shelves into plasterboard. Id mentally budgeted for an inlet manifold as Ive heard about that going so often! Im hoping the coil packs might be a shared part I can get over here - the oil filter is the same as certain year V6 Mondeos. My next order will be the auxiliary belt as that looks tired, and then new tires, but I cant get Goodyear RS-A's here, so might have to import a set for the right look!
@madmanmapper
@madmanmapper 3 ай бұрын
@@furiousdriving There are quite a few Ford parts bin coils that might look the same, but irritatingly have minor differences. Though some of them will work anyway (like maybe the connector is upside-down). Though I'll bet at least the rubber boot is unique to the modular engines.

If your cars doesn't need retraining of gearboxes and such after a power out, I would mount a battery disconnector when they are not in use, it leaves your battery healthier and give a bit more umpf when starting again. For a long term storage outside I would get one of those solar panels with a charger, place it inside the window with the most sun, this should keep the batterys topped up.

Adjusting the low beam, measure your cars height at the headlight, find one that is close, drive up to some wall while dark stop 10 meter away from it, mark where your passed MOT low beams reaches on the wall. place this one at the same distance and adjust your lowbeams. That ought to make it pass the next attempt. Pull the lead on one light at a time makes it easier to see which its shown on the wall.
