Welcome to the very first video of my KZbin channel, The Unwise Thinker.
In this video, I will be discussing the hurdles, and hardships, African people face (especially women) due to something they were born with. THEIR NATURAL HAIR.
We are going to travel through time, to understand where it all began, how it evolved throughout the centuries, how we got to where we are today, and what we should expect from the future.

Very much appreciated docu. Black hair dominates all others as even when straightened chemically or by heat, quickly reverts to it's natural state when the process is discontinued. Tho many black ppl are yet to appreciate the power of black hair, I find it to be very versatile and attractive, in whatever style it's worn.

Unpopular opinion....we have worked so hard on learning healthy hair and many BW have a head full of hair after trial and error and tons of money spent. With that said, we have become a slave to "protective styling". Growing hair down our backs never for the world to see. It makes me so angry that still, after all the discrimination and fighting for legislation regarding our hair, we still load a ton of weave and braids in EVERYDAY YEAR AFTER YEAR in the name of "protective styling ". Can we show our hair SOMETIMES?? Even a day or two? Sorry not sorry 🤷🏽‍♀️

It's crazy people have tricked us into believing something as beautiful as our hair should be hidden.

As a black woman who has struggled with accepting my beautiful hair texture who is now a happy natural girl I absolutely loved this hair journey video. Thank you for your hard work.

First, I would like to say thank you for this detailed video. Our hair truly is beautiful and so different, but it's a shame that some women are choosing to relax their hair even if they are not faced with discrimination.

I am not 25 seconds in an i`m already confused. Black does not mean African. Hammites and Shemmites are completely different. Africans have specific tribes with Hair styles. Blacks are Shemmites from Europe known as Moors. They had their own hair styles. Completely different.

You mostly focused on the history of black hair trough and after slavery. But you didn't explained how it all started in Africa.

I LOVE our hair, from mini braids, locs, cornrows, twists, Bantu knots, etc. our styles are endless. I wouldn't trade my 4C hair for anything. Straight hair can't handle our styles and their hair is boring.

Very interesting video…as a Black American woman, I can attest, and the societal changes we experienced here in the USA reflects in my having worn my hair relaxed for most of my adult life. But wanting more authentic life hairstyle, I cut off all my relaxed hair I’d worn for over 30 years, and loc’d it up 8 years ago. One thing I wish you’d done, being an African man yourself, is focus us in on the hairstory in Africa during these same periods of time and also other countries in the Americas where slavery was in place - the spread of the African diaspora is so much more broadly represented in places like Brazil, Columbia, the Caribbean… USA gets enough attention. That would be very enlightening.
