Today I share with you guys the most crucial tip I have ever learned about surfing and picking a board to surf! And that is the amount of liters the board contains which makes it more or less buoyant! It’s always a better idea to have extra liters at first or as a beginner, and if the waves are not that powerful! Last two place I have lived (Seattle, WA and Victoria BC) have had place that have gotten knee high wind swell rather consistently. Both cities are officially not on the ocean so they don't receive a true ground swell and need wind to kick off the mushy dreams. Each place that I surf at is within two miles of the downtown area and yes I have the place all to myself!! There were a lot of dream sessions that would have never happened had I not had my 9 foot soft top. Plus there was a lot of gas money I saved in the process because I could catch these waves. Nothing cooler than standing on a ferry wake and staring right at the Space Needle during sunrise as I am riding to shore.

Super great tip about the big boards. I struggled for so many years before I realized my ego was in the way of going with a soft top and catch so many more waves when it's not big. and even when it's big, I just go with my soft top, feeling like JOB or Ben Gravy... just have fun! don't struggle so much

Yeah buddy! Trying to pack right now for Cabo mission in the morning. Board selection is always tough when conditions are all over the place (hurricane swell), and airlines crushing the board fees! But can’t go wrong to have a bit more foam. Remember though, volume has to be taken in context with board shape and the waves you’re surfing. None are absolute. They’re all relative.

whatever works for you dude. I personally don't like the feel of foamies, and prefer a mid-length for mushy waves. I don't think I'll ever get tired of PU boards

Totally agree with the big board theory fun factor and then again there are those days when it is good to go out and just practice duck diving and trying to catch waves with a short board when you are a beginner....you have to learn to duck dive.

My local break was getting a bit full and under powered. I though I would give longboarding a go afterbseeing peeps catching like 1 foot waves and carving. Best thing I ever did, but I will say upgrade to fibreglass when you are confident. Foam is slow and has poor response. Best advice bro nice work. I remember thinking long boarders where just old farts who werr to out of shape to ride a short baord but I was so wrong. I wont even pull out the short boards unless it barrels now. Love the long board.
