Also a former Nerderotic/Bowlstrek fan. When I was in Middle School and even in like the early days of High School. Basically the prime demographic for these people, 12-15 Year Olds. I was also very conservative at the time. Basically, because my parents were and anytime I tried to have discussions with them about politics that they disagreed with or even just tried to share my perspective they became very angry with me. So I just accepted the words of them and would never question anything that was presented to me by a conservative talking head. It's funny because my first disconnect came when The Last Jedi came out, and they absolutely dog pilled on it. A film which I consider to be near perfect, they hated so passionately. And when you looked into their arguments it literally was always, things that LITERALLY DID NOT HAPPEN in the movie, or just showed a clear lack of understanding of how films are written, or a lack of competence when it came to film criticism. I.E. Rey is a Mary Sue. It was also telling to me how there complaints seem to be the same across the board. It was just the same whiny pedantic B.S. from one creator to the other. Not to mention how the characters they criticized most harshly and with the most amount of anger and vitriol tended to be either Women or People of Color. As I began to see these things come up again and again, as I began to see how angry, radical, and just plain mean these creators were, I didn't just question why I found their media analysis to be in any way valid, but why I subscribed to this political ideology that more and more I saw was just filled with angry, miserable, rude, and racist assholes. SO thats how Nerderotic and Bowlstrek made me a filthy soy drinking liberal douchebag

It’s quite telling how much moving of the goalposts these Fandom Menace types have to do in order for the narrative of Doctor Who is dying to stick. 1. You show them overnight figures and the fact that this show was the number one viewed drama in the uk at the time of its release when compared to other dramas. They’ll either claim that you can only trust consolidated numbers, or that the speed of the viewing numbers is slower than it once was. This is despite the fact that no show is getting the speed of viewer ship it once had in the early 2010’s mid 2000’s 2: If you show them consolidated viewing figures and how even the Christmas Special came in at number 3 for the viewing figures only behind the New Year’s Eve celebration and Call the Midwife they’ll claim that those numbers don’t count because either the show was handicapped because of RTD, David Tenet, and Cathrine Tate returning. Or they’ll claim that the show’s numbers were fudged by the BBC. It’s honestly quite pathetic.

It is a really weird trend of saying official figures are rubbish. BARB numbers are so widely respected as the best we have in the industry (by all the broadcasters) it seems really weird that some think that there is some fuding on behalf of a single programme. It just doesn't stand up. Doctor Who did well on the overnights, and it did well on the 7 day figures. We have years of data showing that Doctor Who is the kind of program that does well on the +7 day figures. That the numbers are very good and that DW is the kind of programme that pulls a younger audience than average for a drama means that the production office (and the Beeb higher-ups) must be well satisfied.

I never got this obsession with viewing figures, it does not equal quality, you can have poorly made programme with loads of viewing figures and a masterpiece with very few. I am sure there are episodes of classic who that I like, that have lower ratings than episodes of new who I don’t like, should I care? No. As for what you discussed towards the end, I will say this, people complaining about how woke media is, etc is ANNOYING, the word “woke” means nothing at this point. I am technically on the right, but this whole culture war thing is ridiculous, you can go back to media from 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 years ago and find SAME types of messages these people complain about, while often glorifying the old stuff. Message is only part of enjoyment of media, personally I care more about HOW you present your message, instead of WHAT it is and quite frankly, some of my favourite films, books or musicians fall more often on the left of the political spectrum, never had issue with that. I know very little about how viewing figures work or how they're calculated and even I can see through the grifts with very little effort. Like how the melon guy goes on about how overnight figures are more important. First of all, it was a Christmas Day broadcast. Even if streaming wasn't as prevalent as it is, if ever there's a time to include repeats or on demand figures, its for shows that went out on a day when many, many people across the country are going to be busy. Then there's the point about "some people might have tuned out after 30 seconds", which he also for some reason relates to why overnight figures are more important. Don't really get that, people can still tune out of a first broadcast. But moreover, if that's going to be their attitude, why bother talking about viewing figures at all? If they're not going to bother looking up how the BARB expect 40% of a show to be watched before they count it, you could take that to the extreme and say _no one_ watched it at all. You might think that no one would believe them if they took it that far, but I've actually seen grifters get away with that exact lie: A lot of right-wing grifters have been going on about Star Trek: Discovery since it started releasing in 2017 and how its "too woke", etc. all the usual stuff; but a point that's been repeatedly brought up by them is a lack of viewing figures. I don't know whether the rules are different for streaming-exclusive shows, or if the rules are different for American shows, but I've heard CBS are under no obligation to release the viewing figures. Okay. So the right-wing grifters have decided the reason Paramount/CBS won't release the viewing figures is because there literally aren't any. They've decided that _literally no one_ is watching Star Trek: Discovery and that they kept renewing it for a total of 5 _very expensive_ high-budget seasons to save face and not admit that it was getting literally zero views. _And people were buying into that lie!_ And then of course, when we learned that the fifth season would be the end, the grifters started claiming that the show was a failure, despite the fact that five seasons of a high-budget sci-fi streaming show is good these days. A lot of Star Trek fans are used to how things were in the 1990s and still expect seven seasons to be what qualifies as "successful". And that's before we get to the countless, _countless_ times grifters have claimed the executive producer has been "fired by CBS". For the record, the executive producer is still heading up the Star Trek franchise to this day. I honestly don't understand the whole grifting thing. Be it for Doctor Who, Star Wars, Star Trek, Marvel, DC etc. There's plenty of people such as MrTARDIS who can actually critique something; acknowledge when there's shortcomings like pacing or if an attempt at representation comes across as misguided or what have you. But these grifter people would rather spend absurd amounts of time and effort crafting the most paper-thin rumors about viewing figures, cancellations or firings that anyone with an IQ in positive numbers can see right through. I cannot imagine being so hateful that I'd rather seethe about diversity in shows rather than just analysing them as actual pieces of media.

We talk about racism and homophobia which is fine as we should call it out for what it is as you do here however I urge you to call out the ageism from the Bad Wolf team. Why is it RTD won’t cast anyone over 45 in the role of the Doctor? Why does the Doctor need to be attractive today? If the modern Doctor Who production team are serious about inclusivity then don’t exclude older actors or those some would consider not good looking. The writing in modern Who I do find is also a problem turning the show into a goofy fantasy rather than the mix of science fiction & fantasy that Classic Who had.

@@MrTARDIS True however he’s not playing the Doctor permanently and isn’t starting out. He was brought back for the Anniversary specials. When he was cast he was younger. Why is it that RTD never casts anyone over 45 in the role? Peter Capaldi is the only actor cast over 45 and cast by Steven Moffat.

Tom Baker - 40 Peter Davison - 29 Sylvester McCoy - 43 What about Jodie Whittaker - 35? She wasn't cast by RTD. Or Matt Smith, at the time the youngest actor to be cast as the Doctor. Also, is Bernard Cribbins suddenly no longer a consideration? He was a lot older than 45 when he was cast under RTD's tenure. Just seems like you're taking a random dig at RTD for some reason.

@@lloroshastar6347 I didn’t pick it they did. Julie Gardner and RTD said it’s best we have someone under 45. They certainly wouldn’t choose anyone of Peter Capaldi’s age. Julie Gardner said some pretty mean things about Sylvester McCoy implying the Doctor is better when played by an attractive younger actor because it’s all about sex appeal! Can you imagine the likes of William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton being cast today? Not as long as these body fascists are in charge.

@@PaulRichards-vz4pl I don't know what their motivations would be. RTD is hardly a perfect person, as confirmed by Eccleston's time working with them. Moffat was pretty guilty on that front too though with his sexist portrayals of women. I don't know if they are ageist as you say because the evidence is not clear, just wanting to cast a younger actor in the case of Ncuti Gatwa I don't think is ageist in of itself. But then what you've pointed out here is something that the entire media industry is guilty of, and is far from unique to RTD.

This is a mad take. Genuinely un-tethered from reality. 'Mr Bates vs the Post Office' has been the top-item of the news agenda for the entirety of 2024 so far. Everyone has watched it, everyone knows about it and it's actually causing political change. 10M 7-day figures. But you think "anything below 15m domestic is considered good". "The entirety of 2024 so far" is 18 days. 18 total days. What you did there was media-speak. Do you take yourself seriously when you take 18 days and dramatize it like that? The UK is 67 million people. 10M is not everyone. Everyone has not seen it. Everyone is not talking about it. Thats just media framing. It's been done forever. People say that nonsense about anyrhing to hype it up, despite its lack of viewership. I love your videos that actually focus on Doctor Who. I think they're fantastic. But the political side of Mr. Tardis leaves a stain on a channel that had the potential to be one of the biggest pop culture channels on youtube. It's your channel of course, but it doesn't matter what the topic of entertainment is, or what side of the culture war you are on, the two take away from each other. Every single time.
