This series has been life changing. Like many, I came from Mike Winger posting a link. Then I watched the whole playlist multiple times. Then listened with my husband. Then bought history books 😊 Thank you for such an understandable, researched, accessible view of history. So many questions were answered and so many more popped up but now I feel like I have a place to start!

Referred by Mike Winger... great lecture and very interesting facts and historical nuggets. I am surprised how little you spoke of the Byzantines. As far as I am aware, they made an appeal to Pope Urban for help against the encroaching Muslims on their doorstep.

Thank you for not saying the number of executed heretics by the Inquisition, was 50 million (As I have so often heard from people who are anti-Catholic). Some sources place the number of Inquisition executions at around 50 thousand but the actual number is hard to determine with absolute accuracy. But you are correct that execution for the crime of heresy should never have happened. In fairness, it should be noted that the Protestants were responsible for their share of intolerance and persecutions that included torture and execution, with the sanction of Calvin. This continued long after the reformation had occurred. Although the Catholic Church has acknowledged and apologized for their role in the Inquisition, this has not been the case with Protestant organizations.

If the Catholic Church is the "true" Church of Christ, why are you being led by corrupt popes? Is Francis a Christian or a full-fledged communist?
@GR653302 жыл бұрын
@@danstewart3319 Throughout history, there may have been 10 corrupt popes out of 266 pontiffs and there hasn't been a corrupt pope in a very long time. No... Pope Francis is not a communist and yes, he is a Christian.

@@GR65330 "“Some people continue to defend trickle-down theories which assume that economic growth, encouraged by a free market, will inevitably succeed in bringing about greater justice and inclusiveness in the world. This opinion, which has never been confirmed by the facts, expresses a crude and naive trust in the goodness of those wielding economic power and in the sacralized workings of the prevailing economic system.” Says Karl Marx. Oh, wait! Those are Francis' words. I can tell you are not aware of all this man has done to spread communism in Latin America. Only ten got caught? Maybe bc if you SAID anything you were TORTURED to death? There may have been two or three by human standards. But they still sat on their thrones dressed in gold and precious stones, and allowed men to bow at their feet. Where did Peter do that in the Bible?

@@danstewart3319 According to Wall Street Mojo the are 5 characteristics of communism: The idea of communism as a philosophy of government or society is predominantly based on the ideas of Karl Marx. It shares its ideals with Marxism or socialism. Given below are a few characteristics of the ideology:- 1 - Classless society A classless society is where there are no differences between the rich and the poor. Society is otherwise divided into the bourgeoisie and the proletariat, who are the owner class and the worker class, respectively. 2 - Common ownership of all resources For society to be classless, people need to abolish the existing system of control and division. Common ownership is the best way to achieve this goal. Therefore, the community as a whole produces, and the community as a whole enjoys its benefits. 3 - Private property When private people enter production, they tend to focus more on profit. As their earning capacity increases, their quality of life changes, resulting in dramatic lifestyle changes. Obviously, this will be different for those who do not have money. Therefore, abolishing private property is an essential characteristic of communist ideology. 4 - Social equality The basis of the communist ideology is the achievement of social equality. In other words, an egalitarian society in which there are no differences or discrimination between the rich and the poor. 5 - Against democracy Democracy involves the liberty to enter private organizations or players into the market, among other things. Communist ideology does not accept privatization as it is a deterrent in the path of a classless society. Communism in China is an example where they oppose the idea of democracy. Now, has Pope Francis come out and renounced these 5 points?

@@GR65330 Forget the five-pt litmus test. He preaches anti-capitalism and social justice -- which encompasses all the rest -- and openly supports the communist countries in Latin America. Look, Greg, the Lord is coming soon for his Church, maybe in your lifetime. I don't want naive Catholics to be left behind, but millions will bc they absolutely *refuse to read the Bible (NT for starters) for themselves* minus all the Catholic commentaries that tell you how to think so you will remain deceived. The Lord will hold you responsible, bc you can't even claim that you didn't live in a free country. If you sit down and just READ the Word on your own and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you into all Truth He will! Can you put aside men for a change and turn WHOLLY to GOD? Please?

I have been enjoying your internet site for a few years now. Read and listen to your commentary quite often. It's hard to find doctrinal teaching that I agree with as much as I do yours. Thank you for all the years of work you have done to make this available to everyone, that is a true gift to the Christian church. I'm very interested in church and Christian history. I've even ordered some of the books you've recommended and some I can see on your book self behind you, the two volume set "A History of Christianity" by Kenneth Scott Latourette, is on its way now. I've watched all your videos on Church History. I've been looking for a teaching you have on the "intertestamental period" (400 years of silence), if you have one would you direct me to it, or if not, would you consider doing one? Calling the Roman Catholic church Christian is a real stretch, especially in the days of the crusades and inquisitions. If we call what happened then, (and now at times), Christian, then we can understand why non-believers in Christ today disagree and hate the Christian Church. What happened then was not Christian. I like what I heard Frank Turek say, "Christianity is not about Christians, It's about Christ!". Thank you brother Guzik for all you do for the Kingdom of God.

Guzik is wrong, the albigenses were not heretics, though much maligned as such by the Roman Catholic State Church. I prefer Dave Hunt's account of church history in his book "A Woman rides the Beast"

It seems to me that the Roman Catholic Church became heretics with power. They then thus branded others as heretics _of the false religion of Catholicism_

This is an extremely abbreviated and incorrect account of the Crusades. From his framing of the setting, motivations and actual results, this is just bad history. The Crusade were a series of military pilgrimages, set in a world in which Muslim conquest had taken and subjugated half of the Christian world centuries prior, called for by the Pope in aid to the Emperor of Byzantium. Whatever the knights, barons and kings ill deeds occasionally were on campaign, and they were many, the crusaders had the right and duty to reclaim their land, their places of worship, and to defend their brothers in the east from the tyranny of Muslims.

I agree about the threat of Islam. To this day, Muslim's make their interest in world domination plain, as is also plainly stated in their religious texts.
@fieldtestedtrue7826 Жыл бұрын
It seems to me that most of these atrocities can be directly caused by the Roman Catholic Church. Why, throughout your entire discussion do you not just come out and say that? For the most part you generalize Christianity and don't separate out culpability to one specific denomination. Personally, I think that is important. Second, and this could be my misunderstanding, I always thought that the expansion of the Islamic Nation was a major factor for the Crusades. I thought there was a strong political element that used Christianity to motivate the population to go to war.
@yougetagoldstar8 ай бұрын
I also read a book by Justo Gonzalez called _The History of Christianity_ that did the same thing. I don't recommend it. I wonder if this is just a trend among historians.

Excellent treatment of two very un-Christ-like episodes in 'loving our neighbors.' This christobigotry has done lingering damage to Joining Jesus on His Mission with our Jewish and Muslim neighbors.
