Despite most of the reviews panning this pistol when it was released, I bought one. The biggest issue most reviewers had was the "false" reset that one experiences when not letting the trigger out completely, I think the reviewers who had this issue failed to acknowledge that this pistol isn't a race gun, it's a pocket EDC gun. This gun is going to be used in a self-defense situation where gross motor skills will rule and you don't try to finesse or stage the reset. It works just fine in that situation.

Agreed Mike. It also shows too many of the online “influencers” just don’t have the background knowledge needed to really know guns. I’ve not had any issues with mine, from the get-go. I think they’re real sleepers. Some early internet “testers” said they had trigger issues. I watched a couple of the videos and they were riding the trigger back, not allowing it to re-set completely at times. That was a user-induced issue, not a gun issue. My fingers comes off the trigger after each shot on any autopistol. It’s easy to get used to that and doesn’t affect accuracy at all since you still control the final press. Roy

Hello and thank you for the nice video. There are a lot of negative reviews about this firearm. Basically the reset on the trigger. Myself, I was brought up with a 1911, Colt, Series 80 in a .45 and I LOVE it. I am used to an external thumb SAFETY. I LIKE the fact and am USED to the fact and idea of manually putting a firearm on safe. I also LOVE the single action. I hope to purchase one VERY soon. I was also brought up NOT learning how to keep your finger on the trigger and utilizing the reset. So I am fairly sure I will get along with this pistol. Thank you again for the video! Take care... Steve in Colorado

Steve, I think the trigger re-set “problem” isn’t a problem. I think it’s just what you say, people riding the trigger forward waiting for the re-set, but preventing it in actuality. It’s not a 1911 action so doesn’t respond like one. I let my finger come completely off the trigger on autos (other than a tuned 1911), to allow a full re-set. I’ve had zero issues with this gun so far and have several hundred rounds through my test gun at this point. I really like it! Roy H.

Well balanced, accurate at surprisingly long range, and easy to conceal. I know some guys moan about the trigger but after putting some rounds through, the “false reset” is not noticeable at all.
@fmgpubs Жыл бұрын
Agreed Andrew. I think that false reset is actually people riding the trigger forward and not allowing it to re-set. My fingers comes completely off the trigger when I shoot a semi-auto. With just a bit of training, it’s easy to learn and solves that issue regardless of the gun. The 1911 is user-friendly when it comes to riding the trigger to re-set, but not most others. Roy

Les, I sure haven’t had any trigger issues. I think people may be riding the trigger to the re-set point (like many do on a 1911) but I’ve always found to let your finger actually come off the trigger, then re-press assures a re-set. If you watch me shooting you can see (in some footage) my finger comes completely off the trigger at the return, then I press again. Even when shooting faster. Rob Leatham calls it “slapping” but really you’re still pressing. He’s just so damn fast it looks like slapping! Roy H.

My daughter carries a SIG 238 and I really liked shooting it so thought I would go shopping for a 938. The gun shop I frequent suggested trying the CSX. I have a L-XL size hand and the CSX with the different sized back straps fit perfectly. Providing better control than the SIG grip, plus the increased capacity. The CSX offered equal concealability despite the thicker grip. I appendix carry and use a safariland 27-184 leather holster (made to accommodate a Ruger LC 9) and it is very comfortable and provides good retention. The "false reset" which hardly exists doesn't bother me at all. My single biggest complaint concerning the CSX is the stupid spacer on the 12 round magazine.
@fmgpubs2 ай бұрын
I’d agree about the CSX vs. the 238. On that false re-set, I’ve fired hundreds of rounds through this and not a single one. The secret is don’t ride the trigger back to reset like they do on a crisp 1911 trigger. This trigger simply isn’t designed the same. I allow my trigger finger to come completely off the trigger when shooting a semi-auto. Robbie Latham who is an old bud, showed me that trick 25 years ago or more. As he said, during competition you can’t risk an issue with reset, so letting your finger off allows a complete reset every time. And it doesn’t slow things down and is as accurate as other methods. Just ask Robbie! Roy

I saw and held one at Academy yesterday. I shoot, now, a .380 EZ (arthritis in thumbs and wrist), but I can't get this CSX out of my head. It is way more comfortable to hold, and, with my small hands and short trigger reach, unlike the EZ, it doesn't force me to awkwardly cant the pistol against the base of my thumb to get my trigger crease where it needs to be. And it very naturally aligns in my grip so that the three-dot sights are pointed and equally separated just right for trigger pull without hand to grip adjustment. I really have enjoyed the exceptional reliability of my EZ, but I think I'm going to have to switch.

There’s no trigger issues. The thing occuring is people are riding the trigger back after firing and not allowing the sear to re-set completely. If you simply allow the trigger to return fully, there isn’t ever an issue. If you look you’ll see my finger comes completely off the trigger when I shoot semi-autos. I’ve not had that happen with mine. Frankly, I like a magazine that stays so you don’t batter it by allowing it to drop on the ground. If you push the mag release and hold it down, will the magazine come all the way out then? I’m thinking the pressue of the mag release cross pin may be interfering. Let me know. Roy

Dumb question, but what is the weight of the trigger pull on the CSX, and do you have to release the trigger safety to get a full trigger reset? I’ve seen conflicting reports on those two issues with the csx.
@fmgpubs2 жыл бұрын
My gun is at a pistolsmith’s getting some mods so can’t measure the pull. But I recall it being fine, very manageable. I think the “trouble” with people saying it doesn’t re-set reliably is they’re not getting off the trigger after each shot. If you watch some of my videos you can see my finger comes completely off the trigger on autos (other than 1911s with a good trigger). That avoids any issues with re-set and doesn’t slow things down a bit. Roy

Hey, thanks for getting back to me! I’ve been doing a lot of research on this pistol. I know where the “false reset” claims originate from now, and how to check if a csx has the revised firing pin safety plunger (which mitigates this issue). I just need to find a revised one at a store that will allow customers to test the trigger pull now.

@fmgpubs4 ай бұрын
Strips easy, but not sure on the +P. The S&W website may tell you if you check out the gun specs. I tend to not do the +P stuff as it’s really not needed in a modern 9mm load. Roy

Thanks Frank! I’ve shot it quite a bit more since this vid and I remain impressed with it. No trigger issues either. I think that’s because I tend to come off the trigger during re-set, allowing it to re-set correctly before I press again. Roy

@fmgpubs2 жыл бұрын
Benji, it’s not that much heavier. The way to stop limp-wristing issues is to stop limp-wristing! Just hold onto ‘em hard and lock that wrist. It solves all sorts of issues. Roy H.

@robkirkland79822 жыл бұрын
Roy, you know I enjoy andappreciate your videos! The “inter-webs” are going on and on about a “false” reset, with this design. Obviously, you didn’t experience that. As you continue working with this gun, can you see if you can induce that situation- even on purpose? Regarding the “false reset “, I would argue it is a training problem vs. gun design problem. But I am interested in your experience going forward with the CSX (Chief’s Special Xtreme?), maybe a follow up video in a couple months?!
@fmgpubs2 жыл бұрын
Rob, I swear, some people aren’t happy unless they find a fault, real or imagined. I’ve got quite a bit of shooting with this gun done now and nary an issue. I agree I think it’s operator error. Training on a single platform all the time often means people don’t transition well to others. I’ll let you if anything comes up though. Ayoob liked his so much he bought it, and he hates to spend any money! Roy H.
@robkirkland79822 жыл бұрын
@@fmgpubs Thanks for the quick reply. I totally agree with your sentiment that people love to find faults, real or otherwise. I think a part of the success of the FMG’s products are the seasoned shooters who have a wide range of experience with different platforms. And that is why us readers (and now viewers) keep coming back. Now, I want to find one of those CSX to hold!!
@brucemoorejr31152 жыл бұрын
I just picked one up and it does not have a false reset. It has a trigger pull around 4.5 pounds and breaks clean. I really like this pistol!
@jfal1042 жыл бұрын
I fondled one in my LGS when they were first introduced. It had never been fired, trigger pull was over 9lbs (measured by the salesman with me), and it had a pronounced audible and tactile click when releasing the trigger, but that did not reset the trigger. You had to fully disengage your finger from the trigger to reset the trigger. Maybe this has been fixed...especially if one of you has a 4.5lb pull on a non-modified trigger...the one I handled was terrible. Again, this one was never fired maybe 1 month after release.
