Annette Skandrick What's hilarious about that is my grandpa was a lifelong cubs fan as well as US Olympics fan. I was a baby during miracle on ice. My grandpa was holding me when the US won and he lost his mind, scared the crap out of me and my mom basically took me away, not mad, just took me so he wouldn't freak me out. I'm a huge cubs fan because of him. The running joke when the Cubs won was it would have been fun to watch with him but from a distance, like across the room. lol. I miss him.

Stephanie Naber I’ve actually felt similar comparisons between the Cubs 2016 World Championship, and the Miracle on Ice. Granted, the circumstances are completely different from one another. But in either case, the confluence of events that led to it can never happen again. Both were enormously socially uplifting events during times where the country was kinda down in the dumps, and needed a morale booster. I was too young (5 years old) to understand the Miracle on Ice at the time (although I certainly do now!). However, I was fully baptized into Cub fandom just 4 years after the Miracle on Ice, and understand all too well the order of magnitude of what that 2016 Cubs team did!

Jason Holcomb while I've been a Cubs fans since I was born in 1998, I enjoyed the World Series because it was two Teams that longed for First world series in such a long time. Both sides came in and gave it their all. They left everything out on the field, and made sure that other side knew that it would be a 'slobberknocker'. Every one of those player made sure to knock their performances out of the park, and they did. The only time we may ever see something that can rival this will be when the Cubbies and Sox meet again someday in the world series. Which will be the first time since 1906. I look forward to seeing that. Thank you to both Cleveland and Chicago for giving us a lasting performance and the memories that came with it, and who knows, maybe they'll see each other again in World Series some day. Cleveland, from a die hard Cubs fan, I look forward to seeing you again in the World Series someday, facing Your N.L. sibling, The Cub.

I know how you due to 2004, "Back 2 faulk". However I thought 2001 was the greatest until I saw this. Amazing game and series but game 7 was more then we could of asked for. I was glad the cups won. But Cleveland deserved it just as much. The white sox and red sox got rid of their curse. It was the Cubs turn.

I remember every moment of that game still, 5 and half years later. The joy of Fowler's homer to start the game. Screaming at the TV when they pulled the Professor so early. Taking my pulse in the 7th inning and realizing I was tachycardic and that probably explained why I was light headed. The despair of Davis's home run. The rain delay, during which I turned to my wife and said, "They're going to win now...Cleveland doesn't have anyone left." Turning on the radio and realizing there was about a 30 second delay, and hearing Pat Hughes's call stating the Chicago Cubs had won the World Series and looking to the TV- incredulous, my mouth hanging open, hoping against hope I didn't just imagine it- just in time to see Bryant's play. I know it's cheesy but I fell to my knees and cried. My dad took me to my first game in 1984 at Wrigley...we'd lost him 8 months earlier. His longtime significant other, a die hard fan herself, passed not a week before game 7. Everything that had built to that moment to make it deeply personal. Then came the day after...and just like SVP said EVERYONE felt it. Everyone was talking about it. We reveled in it, enjoyed it, savored it...not just as Cubs fans but as baseball fans. Living in Wisconsin, I was surrounded by Brewers fans but even they were sucked in to the drama and magic. No better actual script could have been written...if it had, Hollywood would have thrown it out as being too unrealistic, a fantasy beyond even ILM and their amazing special effects miracles. That wasn't just a game or a World Series...that was a finite moment in history that reminded us just how f***ing awesome baseball can be.

Between innings 4 and 9 I screamed and cried tears of joy and anguish so many times I had nothing left almost. As a life long Cubs Fan, I can't even start talking about Game 7 without tearing up.. might be the most incredible, magical moment in sports history with everything that came to fruition that night. 150+ years combined Between the 2 teams, the game itself, the century of families that always believed that next year was our year. And it finally came. Even if die without another one, that moment will suffice me for a lifetime

The White Sox in '05 was so dominant that you cannot say, aside from game #2 of the World Series and the first couple of games in the LCS, that they had struggles. The team was just that good. Although the Cubs had a better regular year in '16 than the White Sox in '05, the postseason road for them was way harder. Not taking anything away from them though. Cubs was great in 2016, and the Sox was equally great in 2005

and of course what Van Pelt neglected to mention is that no football or basketball thing can ever be this special to this many people of such quality, bc this was real. these fans didn't learn to care about baseball by advertising in pop culture on stations such as ESPN. ESPN hates and hides baseball, as it hates and hides hockey. baseball fans, like hockey fans, learn it from their parents and families and friends and from the sport itself. it isn't sold to them. it's not a product.

This wasn't just Cubs history. This wasn't just baseball history. This was AMERICAN history. Not just the realization of a 108 year old dream shared by generation upon generation of Cubs fans. It was a World Series played with class, competitiveness, and sportsmanship by both teams. There were no egos on display. No grandstanding. Just two teams playing with everything they had for their teams, for their fans, and for their cities. I believe this World Series will go down in American history as the gold standard of what professional sports should be.

This wasn’t simply a championship. This was like a demon exorcism and a quickening (Highlander reference) all rolled into one! Words simply cannot do justice to describe how I went from utter sickness one moment, heart pounding out of my chest the next, to abject euphoria when the 30th and final out was recorded! I was at game 5, and it was looking like I made the trip of a lifetime, only to see the Tribe celebrating at Wrigley. What an incredible group of mentally tough young players to not give in after a 3-1 series deficit! Tougher than many of us fans after years and years, decade after decade of coming agonizingly close, only to see our elusive championship snatched away yet again. It can be very psychologically draining. But credit to Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer for forever changing the culture in Chicago!

A lot of the interest was attributable to WGN. Although the network no longer carries the games, five generations of people currently alive watched the Cubs on "the superstation" coast to coast. Even if they weren't Cubs fans, for years, people tuned in because the Cubs game was the only sporting event to watch on summer afternoons. I grew up in Indianapolis, and my parents were huge Cubs fans because of WGN, and they passed that on to me. After I moved to Chicago, one of my greatest joys was taking them to Wrigley for the first time. They were awestruck.

I'm obviously deeply biased as a Cubs fan, but it's hard to argue with how incredible the '16 World Series was. Even if the two teams playing each other were teams that had just recently won a World Series it still would have been an incredible series. But when you factor in the two teams playing each other and how it all went down, I think it has the best argument for greatest World Series ever. When Rajai hit that 3 run homer to tie it up in the 8th, I just could not believe it. I could not believe that a curse was actually, truly real, and yet I also could not believe that I had duped myself into thinking the Cubs would actually pull through, because OF COURSE the curse was real! None of that is rational, but how can one be rational in a moment like that? When they finally won it I was so relieved, and also so stunned. It was so damned surreal. I was so happy and grateful and yet so much sorrow was with me. My dad had died 15 years prior, and my grandfather was alive in a nursing home with advanced dementia. They were the reason I became a die hard Cubs fan, but yet only I could experience the triumphal moment. I know that millions of people have a similar story when it comes to loved ones and their emotions with regards to the Cubs winning it all. It really is something that transcends mere sports, and I believe as time goes on it will increasingly be seen that way.

this is why I like Cubs fans. as an Indians fan, yeah, it would've been awesome to see them win it. especially the same year the Cavs won the Title after the city waited nearly 60 years, but even as a Cleveland fan you cant hate the Cubs. and it seems Cubs fans feel the same way about the Indians. you don't find mutual respect in sports very often between two cities when it comes to Title games like these. Cubs fans knew the Indians were awesome, and Indians fans knew the Cubs were awesome. and I think it was part of that that made this series so alluring to other fan bases. it's not like Cleveland-Golden State where nobody does a single thing but talk shit. it isn't like the Cleveland-Pittspuke ordeal. it's actual mutual respect. hard to find in such big games.

Honestly, who cares how SVP was moved by a baseball game. He thinks he's making a point but he really isn't.

I'd be depressed too if I was a Detroit fan... Lions all of a sudden have a good thing goin tho.

@Archibald Meatpants The scary thing is that of the four Detroit teams the Lions are closest to contending for a title. Now that there are expectations they'll go 3-14, this is the Lions we're talking about. Goff will suck, he'll get booed off the field, some drunk will throw a whisky bottle at him. Rince and repeat with the next loser QB.
