I grew up as a Cubs, Bears, Bulls, and Blackhawks fan. In 1998 I watched in horror as Reinsdorf and Krause disassembled the best basketball team on the planet. The Bears and Hawks have a history of trading away talent. And now, a mere 6 years after winning the World Series, pretty much all of that 2016 team is gone.

I was in Chicago for game 4 of this series, with a group of friends who flew in from as far as Switzerland. We didn't have tickets, just hung out in Wrigleyville and experienced the madness of 10 blocks of streets being blocked off in all directions with just throngs of people in the street just waiting to explode. That game was a heartbreaking loss, but a great time with great people. 3 days later sitting in a bar I'd never been to with another group of friends, we witnessed the most dramatic game 7 in the history of the series. The rain delay (not featured in this highlight footage) really increased the tension at the time. Being a Wednesday, everyone had to work the next day, and half the bar left early when the delay happened. The rest of us did as true Cubs fans do and drank our worries away. A memorable moment in baseball history, celebrated with good friends and total strangers.

I was there with a bunch of my friends. During the 3rd inning I told them “Bro we gotta get to Wrigley. The Cubs are gonna win this.” Every single bar was PACKED. We watched the final out on the street through a window to a bar. I’ve been a die hard Cubs fan ever since I can remember. This was really one of the greatest moments of my life 🥲😤😤😤💪🏽

Are you a Colts fan too? My teams are a bit weird. Im originally from Chicago (well, technically Aurora, IL. But its really close to Chicago). My whole family are Bears fans, Bulls fans, Blackhawks fans, and either White Sox or Cubs fans. I moved to North-East Indiana with my dad when I was 6 yo. Didnt really watch a whole lot of sports as a kid. I played damn near everything though. Still, I watched some, and the Colts quickly became my favorite NFL team. Especially with Peyton Manning being our QB. I played a lot of baseball, and my area had a lot of different fans. Being from close to Fort Wayne, we are a somewhat equal distance between Chicago, Cincinnati, Detroit, Columbus, and Indianapolis. Due to this, we tend to have a lot of fans from a lot of different sports teams. I tended to go back to my roots though, so I quickly became a Cubs fan and a Blackhawks fan. Now, as far as college, my Aunt wound up going to Ohio State for geology. She would come home all the time and we would watch games together and she would bring me t-shirts, hoodies and hats, etc and I became an Ohio State fan. I started to get into basketball when I was about 13. I quickly became a huge Dwyane Wade fan. I loved watching him play, and it became even more exciting when Shaq joined the team. Then, they go on the win the NBA Finals in 2006, which was freaking awesome. Crazy thing is, they had a SOMEWHAT similar series like the Cubs here did. The Heat went down 0-2 to start the series, and were all but completely counted out, only to rally and win the next 4 games, mainly behind insane performances from D Wade, where he averaged almost 40 points per game for those last 4 games, while Shaq averaged like 12 rebounds per game. Then, not too long after that, the Colts are winning the Super Bowl lol. Its been a crazy time over the past 16ish years. A lot of winning, and a fair share of heart-breaking losses too.

He, fortunately, was able to attend the White Sox WS games in 2005 and he went to 2 Cubs WS games in 2016. Thanks. Yeah that was one HELL of a year. Lead the league with 103 wins. Second in the league had 95. After being down 3-1 in the World Series and coming back. Holy fuck it felt so God damn good to get that win. I cant lie, watching that lead get blown in the 8th damn near gave me a heart attack. I remember thinking to myself "alright, 4 more outs and we win the WS". Then the Indians just start hitting the ball and scoring runs, then they tie the game. Holy shit I was SOO nervous. I still remember that last hit. At first I saw the hit and my heart sank. Then, the camera changed and I see it going straight to Bryant, and right then I knew. As soon as I saw the throw and knew it wasnt a crazy wild pitch or something, I jumped out my seat screaming. 108 freaking years. IDK if you remember the '08 season. A lot of Cubs fan were convinced that the Cubs were DEFINITELY winning the WS that year. It was exactly 100 years since the last WS, we had a great team with 97 wins under our belt (tied with 2nd in the league). That was a rather emotional end of a season for sure. Only had to wait another 8 freakin years though to finally get another win. Honestly, with the start we had LAST season I had my hopes up a little bit lmfao. Then we started to fall apart and those hopes were quickly dashed. Hopefully we dont have to wait 108 years again! lmfao

I cant tell you how emotional this game was. After the '08 season when everyone thought it was the Cubs' "destiny" to win the World Series after a 100 year drought, after the close games and shit that had happened in the postseason, after being down 3-1 and most people counting us out, after giving up that lead with 2 outs in the 8th inning like that. When I saw that ball get hit directly towards Bryant, and I saw him scoop it up and throw it over to Rizzo I jumped out of my seat and screamed one of the loudest screams I've ever screamed, lol. Holy LORD that was one HELL of a way to end a World Series. Im SO glad the Cubs were able to win, especially after so long. Whats insane is the Indians had the SECOND longest drought in the MLB too. So either way, an extremely long drought was going to end. Im just SO happy that it was my Cubs that got the W.

You said it brother. 03' we were up 3 games to 1 to boot when Bartman happened. He didn't lose that game. Alex Gonzalez did by bobbling a routine grounder that would have ended the inning up 2. Either way, we got our sweet redemption with this title and can die like most Cub fans couldn't... witnesses to a World Series championship.
@vmf1965

Now the Indians (I still call them that) need to sign drought-killer Theo Epstein to a GM contract: he's ended a total of 194 years' worth of titleless futility (86 for the Red Sox and 108 for the Cubs). Cleveland's run without a WS title now spans 75 years and counting...

@@reedturner9574, just like the Buckner error in Game 6 of the 1986 WS against the Mets. That NY win merely tied the series. Plus, the Red Sox led 3-0 in Game 7, only to lose 8-5. Both Buckner and Bartman (and, by extension, their families) should never have gone through the hell their teams' fan bases caused them to endure. Shameful, to say the least...

I've been a Cubs fan since 1984 and what I remember best about this game was watching it while reading the facebook feed on MLB's website. What really shook me was the stories of so many fans who had been waiting for this a lot longer than I had as the game progressed. Fans who's parents had been lifelong fans who didn't live to see this, fans who lived to listen to WS losses in the 40s on the radio, fans who never attended a game at Wrigley. While so many were screaming and jumping for joy, I found myself just content to watch and take it all in as it became clear that the Cubs were NOT going to blow this one. When you've waited your whole life for this moment, you can wait a little more and just watch and enjoy it.

That was obviously very important on Chapman's part. I think the Cleveland hitters were overly anxious that inning, everyone wanting to be the hero. Chapman fell behind in the count, on at least two of the hitters. One of them flied out on a 3-1 pitch. One of the there hitters scared me to death. The ball took that all too familiar HR trajectory off of his bat, but it was easily a foul ball and lacked HR distance. He would subsequently strike out. Thankfully Chapman was not sent out to pitch bottom of 10th.

I'm not saying this as a Cubs fan, but as a pure baseball fan: I think this was probably the greatest WS of all-time. It's hard to think of any others that top it. And, overall, the Cubs run to get there was pretty amazing, as well, but this WS was by far the best baseball had to offer in terms of entertainment value.Again, I am not speaking with any bias. I just so happen to be a Cubs fan.

The kind of game where you wanted both teams to win. The rain delay in overtime made this game even more special. What an amazing series

Rain delay was bogus. Indians were on a roll and then the umps called for the tarp to slow down the game. As usual the game was fixed.

Oh, man. This reel bypasses the smartest play in the Cubs' 10th inning rally. After Schwarber got on, pinch-runner Albert Almora tagged up at first on a deep fly to center and reached second base. That led to Rizzo's intentional walk (because managers always want the force-out at second). The Cubs won this with baserunning as much as with their bats.

Imagine coming up to bat, Game 7 of the World Series, bottom of extra innings in your home crowd, with 1 on and 2 outs and your team down by 1. A homer could make you an instant legend. Every kid who ever wanted to play baseball dreams of coming through in that moment. What pressure.

Imho there's a clear-cut top 3 best MLB games in the 21st century to date: this game, Game 7 in 2001, and Game 6 in 2011. Personally I'd put 2001 on top, this game at #2, and 2011 at #3. You'd be hard-pressed to concoct a better ending than a bottom-of-the-ninth comeback against the greatest closer ever at the apex of his powers to end the Yankee dynasty. But all 3 of these games are so epic you could make an argument for all of them.

I was soul crushed as an Indians fan that night. I wanna share what I saw outside the stadium that night. As I was leaving, I saw 2 Cubs fans, in their mid to late 70's, just hugging and crying. Now, The Cavaliers won a championship that summer and we as a city celebrated... hard. I will always have that moment that ended 52 years of zero championships. I walked up to those gentlemen and congratulated them on finally winning a well deserved championship. How, in that moment, could I begrudge them at all. My disappointment took a back seat to the absolute joy they felt. They were appreciative and gracious in the moment, saying how sorry they were about our bad luck. I said, our curse as a city ended in June. You finally put to rest so many generations of frustration. That night I went home even more appreciative of the Cavaliers winning. I hope those gentlemen are still celebrating that championship.
