Also witness that it is growing feathers. If the mother cuckoo sees her egg destroyed or chick dead, she will destroy this nest. In other videos, I can hear the cuckoo calling, so she sticks around and monitors, quite likely she has more than 1 nest to watch.

Cuckoo is usually 2-3 times larger than host bird and need to fledge within 20+ days. It needs 2-3 times more nutrient within similar nesting period, if there is competition it will be malnutrition.

The most aggressive chick(s) get the most food. Other nestmates suffer malnutrition, constant pecking, cannibalism, as well as theft of chicks to feed other bird's chicks. It's rough out there.

Most nests are open, as predators know, they are not hard to find. Mortality rates are high for all nests nest failures are also common.
