A changeling illusionist with a mirror mephit familiar would be a very thematic encounter

I can easily imagine a mirror mephit teasing a party from a series of mirrors, and as the party chases it looking for the next mirror it might pop out of they are attacked by a Fetch

The "wall of lightning" thing reminded me of one specific glitch from Super Smash Bros Melee that lets you do the same with two Fox players and a Super Scope...

You know, I don't think I've ever used mephits or encountered them. But this one seems fun. On the topics of mirrors and monsters, I want to whip up a bloody Mary-monster that is a type of vampire that travels through mirrors and is invited into a home by speaking its name.

Bodhi Irenicus is a vampire who is pretty much that, she was given stats in Minsc and Boo's Journal of Villainy in 5e.

I love using mephits. The campaign I'm currently running has some powerful elemental NPCs set up, and I plan to use mephits as minions if there is ever a fight.

I love this creature! I am all about taking previous editions and updating them to 5e! The name of your channel is also BRILLIANT! I’m about to be a dad myself and the creativity speaks to me! Love it!

I wanted this to be a separate comment but I’d love to do a collaboration with you on this. I love taking from 3.5e and 4e (even pathfinder) to enhance 5e I’d have a bunch of ideas on this topic if you want to collab! If not no worries! I’m sure you’re a busy dude!

im in love with these guys already? their love of repetition is fantastic, i have a group thats prone to echolalia, so i can omagine busting one of these out and speaking its dialogue lines twice/repeating certain words/etc and my group picking up on it. i love it. also F in the chat for your hopes od 2020 😅

I love this concept. 2 quick things tho. 1. The reflective carapace for the tarrasque calls for a dice roll to determine effect, whereas the spell reflection you have here automatically happens, making it significantly stronger. 2. Simulacrum has a 12 hour casting time, and requires touch. So they're not gonna be copying any party members unless they manage to kidnap one and knock then unconscious on some body snatcher vibes. Which is probably a good thing, since these things are "CR2" the way a shadow is "CR1/2"

Variant Homebrew rule for Mirror Mephit Ping Pong: the spells are reflected in a way that simply deflects (preserving momentum) the spell at an appropriate angle. For instance, if you fire the spell just a bit to the side (on a diagonal) you end up with the spell traveling in a V-like shape. Mostly just for the hell of being able to use your minions to play ping pong with magic missile. Sometimes the ancient Dark Lords are just bored

I really like this creature. My players are very rp oriented. So they like the combat that is less just beat on each other till one falls. I've only recently found your channel but I am really enjoying it.

I wonder what else lives there. Could there be a more powerful mirror elemental to serve as a boss for those, with more powerful mirror-themed spells?

Shooting a few DISINTEGRATE spells bouncing eternally till hit any target crossing in the middle of 2 front to front enchanted spell reflecting mirrors would be a cool magical vertion of the "Resident Evil" laser style trap to launch onto player characters trying to pass from one side to the other of a room or narrow pasage.. GM's aid idea!

New subscriber saying hello from the very new year 2023! Also wanted to add that if any future player calls out of game night, their character might well be kidnapped by this creature and the party will have to rescue them.

I added invisibility to its stat block, similar to that of the will-o-the-wisp, and in my lore, if you break a mirror you open a gateway 1d4 mirror mephits will come out of the mirror and follow you around, basically just being frustrating/annoying, until eventually they die of natural causes... 7 years later. This is the origin of the "breaking a mirror = 7 years of bad luck" superstition. Not actively trying to harm you unless attacked first, but knocking things over, stealing things, breaking supplies, etc.

This is so interesting, I like the idea that they may also be good at mimicking since they like repetition. To make a perfect repetition, would be cool mostly when speaking with it, tho i suppose in combat could be neat.

Since the casting time of simulacrum is so high, your mephet can't just dupe the sorcerer mid combat and have a mirror match, they'll likely have used it to clone of their allies before combat if they are using it at all. Then it's as simple as adding half the CR of said simulacrumed creature to the encounter. A simulacrum doesn't go away when the caster dies. So, it's more of an excuse for why you're fighting 4 of the BBEG right now!

Crag cats have a reflect spell property that is way overpowered for its CR. And depending on source material, since it does vary depending on where I look, it is a beast, which means available for a druid. I allow this at my table for the chaos it can cause and the fun my players have doing it

Here is an evil idea for an epic level fight. Take a huge amount of mirror mephits so they form a sphere and in the middle of the mirror mephit sphere is an umbral blot and then have a high level wizard use lightning and make sure that the mirror mephits are so close to each other that the bouncing lightning doesn't escape the inner mirror mephit sphere. Then have the lightning bounce faster and faster about the umbral blot till you get a nasty explosion. In other words the wizard ends up making a monster and magic version of a black hole bomb.

I know I’m super late to the party here, but I don’t think that the ability to cast Simulacrum has been given nearly the weight it warrants. The Mephit could not only be turning your strongest member(s) against the party, it could literally use it to snatch and replace its victims, pretending to be a familiar while piloting the simulacrum out in your place. Could be a very unexpected BBEG if given sufficient motivation. Even if the simulacrum is damaged or destroyed, it can recast with no components whenever it likes, so long as it has a captive target to use as a model.

one or two of these guys can be a significant nuisance, but dropping 4 flying gremlins that can reflect spells, cast mirror image, and duplicate party members approaches intellect devourer mob levels of danger if these guys can cast simulacrum, they could just create simulacrums of themselves that create even more simulacrums
