Being able to temporarily de-face someone (through touch attack, maybe?) Would be a neat mechanic. The poor bard, running around unable to breath, see or speak.

And most importantly without a mouth how could the bard seduce the defacer?

I'm imagining a scenario where these sad shifty boys are forced to work with witchlins, Gashadokuro, a slidikin ( all under duress probably) with a vitreous drinker at the head. Or him and a litch with a thing for body horror and body mods,.

I've said it before but undead are absolutely my favorite type of monsters. This one seems like it would be especially fun and I can't wait to find a place for it in my undead campaign.

This reminds me of a Wonder Woman comic where(Spoilers) the daughter of the villain Veronica Cale gets her face stolen by Ares’ sons. Unlike this her body still grows like a normal persons for the next 10 years, but she is completely unresponsive to any thing that happens around her.

This monsters is awesome! The perfect agent for the big ad to try to weaken the party. And if it's not fully under control, then maybe the party can find and negotiate with it. The need for an identity is a really cool motivation. Edit: Only change I'd make is maybe it can turn off the screaming aura when it's satiated; that way there's a symbolic representation of its peace, and it can hide amongst the people like that.

I see your "the party not knowing what Shifty NPC wants the body for" and raise you "The party knows exactly what they want it for and don't care because either they're evil as well, they have a deal with Shifty NPC, they don't have any reason to care about the area, or any of the above" Not sure if you'll see this, but I kinda want to see your take on Pathfinder's 'World Dragon', I love the concept on them.

I think a fun play on this is that the player loses their face and the creature runs off with it. The player now has 3 days to find this creature to get it back or lose their face (or their soul and die) before it is lost forever. Giving the players some fun interaction and some fun pantomime communication. I mean, can you imagine a bard losing their face and voice, so now they have to wear a mask in public and come up with clever ways of communicating without speaking and make it seem natural? That sounds worth the encounter by itself.

My party saved a not so evil demilich (not the most good either) and it has in return saved them and now contracts them out for things it wants, this sounds like fun and I know what it's going to ask them to bring back next time. :)

I'm pretty sure it's specifically the cause fear spell that makes it so afraid creature cannot approach. I think the normal fear condition just means you have disadvantage on attack rules against it. But I could be wrong. No they can't move closer, I'm just thinking of the spell that specifies they must use their movement to move away.

that gave me an idea. a city leader in my campaign is named the Faceless Master. He is a tyrannical mage with concerning himself with with own arcane things. but he still gives orders in his city. And now i'm thinking a monster like this could be a pawn... or a weird monster that's turning the people against him. hmmm

This thing would be great to help deal with an a player who can't make it to the next session Just have it steal the face of the missing players character, that way the party has a cool side quest to go on and the a absentee player doesn't really miss anything ^^

I think I might crank this thing's CR up a bit and find some way to make it a bit scarier in combat. Regardless, I'm gonna use these as minions for a particular masked villain my players constantly encounter around major adventures. He promises he's here to help. But why? My players will learn one day. But not until he's had his "fun".

Dungeon dad! Quick question: Have you ever heard of exalted before? Would you ever consider making content on Exalted material? Not a lot of people know about it, and I’ve been a lone DM, campaign ready to go, with no players except a coworker who’s realistically a slim ‘maybe’. I know it would be entertaining, and would expand your resources for making content in the future. There’s very little exalted videos on YT so you could definitely corner the market.
