A tribute I wanted to make of my favorite band, The Cure. This song is the greatest. A masterpiece. I love the lyrics, Robert Smith is a genius.

Lyrics:
Give me your eyes
That I might see
The blind man kissing my hands.
The sun is humming
My head turns to dust
As he plays on his knees
As he plays on his knees
And the sand
And the sea grows
I close my eyes
Move slowly through drowning waves
Going away on a strange day
And I laugh as I drift in the wind
Blind, Dancing on a beach of stone
Cherish the faces as they wait for the end
Sudden hush across the water
And we're here again.
And the sand
And the sea grows
I close my eyes
Move slowly through drowning waves
Going away
On a strange day.
My head falls back
And the walls crash down
And the sky,
And the impossible
Explode
Held for one moment I remember a song.
An impression of sound
Then everything is gone
Forever
A Strange Day.

He is a true poet.. Robert will never grow old. He will forever remain eccentric, dark, fascinating, absolutely beautiful boy with romantic soul. He will never leave his tragic kingdom made of strange dreams..

@Allow me ugghhh great. i've barely been a fan for two years since i discovered them at seventeen and based on that episode maybe take his words with a grain of salt. in one song (all i want?) i couldn't tell if he's saying "all i want is to hold you like a dog or doll". i googled the lyrics and he said somewhere that they misprinted it as "dog" and he thought it was hilarious and let them continue. . . sure bob, whatever you say.

Such a privilege to enjoy music together with your child. My son is 17 and has loved the Cure for a few years now. He plays electric guitar and tells me stuff about Robert's guitar sound and technique that I never even knew (even though I've been a fan since the early 80's). Such a gift from the heavens. Thank you 🧡

Me and my dad sometimes drive around at night, nowhere specific just cruising. We listen to The Cure, Depeche Mode, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, Echo and the Bunnymen, Duran Duran etc, he used to listen to them back in the 80's and 90's and now his only daughter loves all those bands. Its nice to bond with your parent/parents over music.

Loved the 80s music, still love it. The Cure was at the top of that list. We had a tape, VHS tape with The Cure videos and watched it over and over at times with friends. This was one of the videos on there and brings back so many great memories. Loved that era of music, the best music era in general.

I'm sure that I've contributed to at least 200 of the 10 million views on this video alone. This song helped me through a really dark time in my life, and one of the most difficult/heart breaking decisions I ever made. Somehow Robert found his place in that mess, and brought me comfort with his voice and lyrics. A true musical and lyrical poet that puts into song so perfectly what the human soul so profoundly feels and thinks about. I'm forever thankful for their contribution and presence. They're one of the best bands out there.

It's as if I knew somewhere deep down that I'd listen to this song again 25 years later, in a stronger and wiser place, finding comfort in its strangeness as always. And introducing my fifteen year old daughter to it!! That guitar at the end is so sublime x

Two months ago one of my best friends took his own life away on a strange day, just like the one in this our beloved song. He hung himself, and the toughest part is still imaging the sharp blow to his neck, the violent crack by which his life ended and everything went away forever. No recollection of a song. No impression of sound. He gave up even the grace of the most beautiful music we had ever heard. Now I sense the word "pain" for the second first time. Rest in peace, F.

That is so sad... I felt like topping it a few times in my twenties. Took years to get out of a black hole. None of my friends really bothered and my family made it worse. You see everyone gets on with there lives no one really knows how you feel they just talk about you to others or take the p**s

Mine too Stacy! I have a brother 15 years older than me who listened to the cure. I was 2 years old when I started loving them and Pornography was one of my favorites. We would go on road trips and my parents would be annoyed because I would throw a fit if they turned it off. I went to my first concert of theirs when I was 9. And yes, I was a dark child lol. But I love listening to Roberts music and it brings back so many childhood memories. After me and my wife got married, Mint Car was playing as we were announced as Mr. and Mrs. No other band could give me what the cure has through the years!

A Strange Day exudes many of the qualities which are hallmarks of the Cure. This particular song is hauntingly transcendent and ephemeral, but also tinged with streaks of melancholy. A beautiful piece.

As a young Goth, i came to love The Cure. As Robert stated they have never seen themselves as a Goth band and i have to say, i never did either. But it didnt stop our Goth subculture adopting them as ours, in the early days we made up most of their audience... over time though we knew The Cure grew too big for any subculture let alone Goth. At a Cure concert these days, its great to see generational families and friends, no matter what influences brought them together, enjoying Robert and his beloved The Cure!

He's FOS to deny the goth aspect to his look and the dark toned nature of much of their music; esp. on albums like "Pornography" and "Faith". Didn't stop him from playing into all the $$ they got from goth/darkwave fans.
