The Cure are an English rock band formed in Crawley, West Sussex, in 1976. The band has experienced several line-up changes, with vocalist, guitarist and principal songwriter Robert Smith being the only constant member.
Plainsong is featured on Disintegration (1989), the 8th album of the band.
Lyrics:
"i think it's dark and it looks like rain" you said
"and the wind is blowing like it's the end of the
world" you said "and it's so cold it's like the
cold if you were dead" and then you smiled for
a second.
"i think i'm old and i'm in pain" you said
"and it's all running out like it's the end of the
world" you said "and it's so cold it's like the
cold if you were dead" and then you smiled for
a second
sometimes you make me feel like i'm living at
the edge of the world like i'm living at the edge
of the world "it's just the way i smile" you said

I believe it's the Ethereal and Spiritual feeling in the song which truly takes command of your senses that you stop and give it your undivided attention. You're enveloped and taken on a Psychedelic voyage of your own images. It is truly magical! We Love You Robert James Smith!

Agree 100%. I’ve been told a few times by people that they find it depressing - then I’ve asked them to listen to it again and to realise it’s more about that moment of hope you can grab hold of in the worst situations. It’s similar to Everybody Hurts by REM in that regard; it acknowledges the pit of despair you can find yourself in - but reminds you there can be a route out, via yourself or others. It unashamedly talks about the stormclouds looming, but then then points your eyes towards the fractures of sunlight breaking through… I’m not a great writer, and AJ said this in way fewer words and far more expressively - but I agree 100%, Plainsong lifts and calms me like no other….

this is my favorite song. not favorite cure song. favorite song. ever. it's so beautiful. they've opened three shows i've seen with it, 1990, 1996 (tears were streaming down my face as i sat alone in the rafters of the patriot center, in utter disbelief that they would lead with my soul song), and 1999. "it's so cold, like the cold if you were dead, then you smile for a second." best line ever.

+Stephen Velez I was at the Patriot Center in 1996. With a friend who is no longer with us and his girlfriend whom I no longer speak to. My car broke down on the way to the show but somehow we still made it. Like you, I was in the rafters alone but the show was absolutely amazing. The screens projected behind the stage were awesome. Especially for Strange Attraction but for me Jupiter Crash was my perfect moment. Hope you'll be at Merriweather this June.

+Stephen Velez - My name is Amy and I am a huge Cure fan . Please go to the website Same deep Water as you- can download the audio version of the 1996 Fairfax concert, I was also at that show around the 10th row on floor. I also have a bootleg video of the show from vhs sent to Legacy Box to convert to Dvd but I find I cannot download it to computer or youtube. I was going to send the tape out again for them to print another copy but takes 6 weeks or so. Let me know if you would like a copy, it is not the best but the audio cd on the above website is very good. also the fan website Chain of flowers will have all the info - Best fan website ever for updates, Photos and videos. Hope to see you also in June.

After watching a good friend of mine go into a seizure and then coma from some research chem, then fully recover a a few weeks later, we rolled up a fat blunt to talk about it and he blasted this song in his truck as we toked. I could feel the deep bass vibrating to my soul and the ethereal waves lifting me higher than the weed itself. And I can never forget the night I heard this song or what it meant to me to be engulfed by such sweet sound waves and having my young friend alive and well to introduce me to this experience. I think it's dark and it looks like it's rain, you said And the wind is blowing like it's the end of the world, you said And it's so cold, it's like the cold if you were dead And you smiled for a second I think I'm old and I'm feeling pain, you said And it's all running out like it's the end of the world, you said And it's so cold, it's like the cold if you were dead And you smiled for a second Sometimes you make me feel Like I'm living at the edge of the world Like I'm living at the edge of the world It's just the way I smile, you said

The whole album is a classic. This particular song I play 90 times before I can get to the rest of the album. 32 years ago and if this album were to drop today, it’d be a classic.♥️💯

Das ist der Song im Abspann von "Toni Erdmann". Supergeil. Ich mag The Cure seit meiner Jugend. So tiefsinnig, dazu die einizgartige Stimme von Robert Smith und diese ehrlich melancholischen, morbiden Texte. Einfach schön um mal an nichts zu denken und einfach zuzuhören.

This is the kind of song when you find true love. It's like the moment is finally here and it's all you have long for from the start. It's hard to gather real serious feelings when you've been hurt so much you just take things the way they are sometimes and just move on always. However when you finally reach that moment when you have found someone you can lead on and comfort it's beautiful oh how sweet it is, and tender it is, the music just seems to go so well with the feeling of love. Oh how to be able to make love to song like this

Lyrics Plainsong -give it a like for others too! I think it's dark and it looks like rain, " you said "And the wind is blowing Like it's the end of the world, " you said "And it's so cold, it's like the cold if you were dead" Then you smiled for a second "I think I'm old and I'm feeling pain, " you said "And it's all running out Like it's the end of the world, " you said "And it's so cold, it's like the cold if you were dead" Then you smiled for a second Sometimes you make me feel Like I'm living at the edge of the world Like I'm living at the edge of the world "It's just the way I smile, " you said

Just wild to see all the gen X and older mils talking about all there times with The cure. My first GF and I used to drive around and listen to The Cure and talk about all our future plans together and how much we loved each other. I was 17 lasted till I was 24. Life happened drugs and booze and other stuff too. That was over 20 years ago and when I hear these songs takes me right back to that love.
