- my beautiful mum was suffering from heavy depressions back in the eighties, and took her own life in 1989 at the age of 26, when I was only one year old. - today I was going through her old record collection and found a little paper inside The Cure’s Disintegration album sleeve. - It was an old handwritten note by her with some drawings. - Beautiful painted red and purple flowers, many little hearts with my name written a hundred times and the words: ‘there was nothing in the world that I ever wanted more than to feel you deep in my heart’. - I immediately searched on Google and found out it are words to this song. - I listened to it all morning. I got so close to my mother today because of this song. - These words describe how she felt, how ill she was. - How she struggled with being alive. But it also finally tells me how much I was wanted, and how much she wanted to stay with me and see me growing up. - I am sure she listened to this song a thousand times. - She is my hero and she is free now. - This afternoon I visited her grave and brought her red and purple flowers. - I also gave her back her Disintegration album wrapped up in plastic, close to her where it belongs.

Completely, it took me a while to fully appreciate how great it actually is. I always loved The Cure being a goth in my youth but thought this single was too “mainstream” and then one day about a year or two ago it came on and everything about it just hit me and reduced me to tears (ironically). I feel like it was a seminal commentary on male mental health and just so beautifully played and sang and produced. It’s definitely one of the all-time greats.

It's a bittersweet moment when you can once again listen to those songs that you couldn't listen to, for so long, because they'd break your heart. There's something about that lingering pain. Even though it hurts, it connects you to and reminds you of that wild passion you once had. When it's gone, it's like a part of you has died, and that's sadder than the pain.

i was a kid, in chile, that only listened to the beatles, when someday this video came out on tv, and changed the way i looked life. it both scared and fascinated me, those shadows acting their own way and their red-lighting eyes. from here, they opened the door to a whole different world of music i didn't knew it existed back then, that wasn't played in the radio, nor tv. justice be served by saying that it's directed by tim pope (who made the most of the cure's videos)

I'm going to be real, The Cure changed my life... I first saw this video when my dad was flicking through videos on KZbin, I only got a glimpse of the band through pictures and always thought they were just some typical brooding goth band, however hearing this song for the first time in my life shook me, they were brilliant: a mix of depression and charm that doesn't go to far down the " I want to die, everything sucks." Role that loads of goth type bands play. I then went on to listen to pretty much their entire discography: from "Three Imaginary Boys" (1979) all the way to "wild mood swings." (1996) albums like "Disintegration" and "wish" completely changing my perspective of music and the world in general. Robert Smith is pretty much my Idol, he doesn't care how he looks or what people think of his looks, voice or unique personality, he's happy to be himself and is a true role model for those like me who sometimes are too self conscious. This year, I finally got to see The Cure live at Birmingham Utilita arena and it blew me away, Robert sounded fresh of of the albums and didn't show any signs of age what so ever ( he apparently had the fucking flu during the performance by the way which makes this performance even more impressive to me) they played all the classics and yes: I sung my freaking heart out during Boys Don't Cry. It was a moment I shall never forget. I employ you... if you ever feel like your a weird and out of touch with society person, listen to this band and you will feel great being yourself again, whether your eccentric, weird, scary or even funny, The Cure have something for all those who feel like their something different, and I'm glad I discovered them.

I remember a comment from a few years ago about a guy at an airport coming from his brother funeral (from cancer I believe) listening to a playlist on his brothers cell phone, this song being the first, dedicating on the inside the entire song to his passed brother, asking him for forgiveness, because the song said boys don't cry, and he was, inconsolably..
