What a huge impact on me as a teen to read an interview/see an interview with Robert Smith (and enjoy the music of course) and hear an adult, a creative and successful artist, talk about not compromising, not buying into shallow culture, not measuring yourself against capitalist success, reading novels, knowing what worked for him and working by instinct towards quality, and being soft-spoken and himself--an anti-hero-worship factor built in. A huge relief and confirmation.

I went to the bloodflowers show and it wasn't gothic, but it was truly the best of the cure. They played faith, plainsong, sinking and a handful of other moody types of songs. In fact they opened with plainsong and timed it so that it began just as the sun was setting. They were amazing.

The microphone is of German TV channel VIVA ZWEI (that I worked for). Yes, our "Redakteure" had an outstanding ability and empathy with bands. The VIVA group was eventually taken over by Viacom in order to be "killed". I am very happy to see this interview. It brings back good memories with our alternative channel in general. Thanks for your post. 💙

This interview is a gem ✨ I have always tried to understand how a great songwriter took his inspiration to write songs (first with Martin Gore who I consider at the same level as Robert) and I imagine him with a sheet and a pen always beside him: while he is in bed, during the lunch and even sitting on the toilet!

I dunno. At first listen, I was very disappointed... And truthfully, a lot of the songs still sound kinda tired, melodically fairly unimaginative and overall just a tad too forced to me - with the total exception of the title track, by the way! That one's as good as it gets, period. I'd still prefer the album to 4:13 DREAM any day of the week. Really hope they'll manage to at least make one more really good, inspired record before they'll probably just leave it at live gigs until Robert feels he has nothing more to give.

I so love to hear Robert Talk & Sing. That Voice In Every Way- sweet, sexy, smooth, gentle, exciting, the range of it & so dreamy with those lyrics to the love songs & I just can't get enough of him. So many Women, including me want to Be With Him & Be The Subject of those songs & men want to Be him! He is definitely a Very Sexy & Hot Man, Handsome, Intelligent & Very Married! How Does Mary Do It- knowing everyone wants him? And still going strong in 2020 & finally got inducted into the Music Hall Of Fame in 2019! About Time! A Musical Genius, Truly Unique & a True Artist. The Cure's Music is Timeless! I love the 70s 80s & 90s & They are my no.1 Favorite Band. Love Love Love You Always. Hope to meet Robert & the band some day. Saw only once in Mansfield, MA.1996 & it was Fantastic- it was like a communion, it had this feel to it of everyone feeling the same. Lots of black dress & black & dark red lips. A Great Time. I was 36 & so into them. I started out on a home made tape cassette a friend found of 3 Imaginary Boys & It had a mix from other albums on it, Lullaby, Plainsong, Lovesong, Same Deep Water As You, Prayers For Rain, Pictures Of You, & I was hooked. I started looking them up in the music stores- & bought the Black & White album w/A & B sides. Fell in love all over again. I think the only song I ever heard on the radio by them was Just Like Heaven! And they are so versatile I had no idea, & the other stuff would never get on the radio! You Had to buy the albums to get those songs! So glad I did! "I will always love you" !❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤Yes I bought a T- Shirt & I still have it & wear it.The whole groups photo of the front of them & back of them on front & back on a black shirt. 😃

Father Bob, NEVER regret or feel unfinished with Wild Mood Swings. It iS one of my favorites. I'm also surprised you speak of fans not liking it except true Cure fans. When I met you in Detroit and we went club hopping and stayed the night at the Renaissance Center on Head on the Door tour, I talked with you about true Cure fans. You contradict yourself here. You told me you despised that elitism. Now you applaud it. You made me cry that night. Glad you can see more than one way now. Thanks for the extra t-shirts, although I know not what they mean. Always, Claudia ❤

i just argues with hiim the whole time. "Bloodlowers is a really good album" No, it's not. "Maybe someday is the weakest song on the album" No, it's the best song on the album. To be fair...he said parts of wild mood swings were really good...thats true. I still don't get....as a long time cure fan...how Pornography and Disintegration are always talked about as being the best Cure albums...don't get me wrong i love them both...but Wish, in my opinion..is not only their best album...but one of the most perfect albums ever made...it's fuckin amazing...and will always be my favourite album by ANYONE...until i die.
@chrilborn41384 жыл бұрын
Wish feels like a bit too much in some parts imo. Like all the vocal layering and extra instrumentation... I love it though and it definitely has some of their best songs in there. (Trust might be my favorite Cure song ever) But I could see how some fans would be put off by it too

Maybe if you're looking at the Cure's music from pop and mass appeal. But from Robert's perspective he see's it from purely as unique pieces of art and typically don't have mass appeal. Wish is a good album but isn't as unique as P or D.
