I cannot believe that the band didn't commission a professional taping of this tour. This is as close as I've ever seen to high quality live footage from this era. I'm entranced!

I have been saying this since 1990. The fact they have not put out a pro-shot concert is crazy. I know that they have it in the vaults because most shows were shot by cameras to display on the video screens in the stadiums. Somewhere, someone must have copied those videos and they are just sitting there. I have been collecting for a long time, and this is the best I have seen, and I didn't even see this until it was posted on youtube.

The opening song is PLAINSONG...which has meaning to the English, whose Established Church of England (which nonetheless few attend) has its culture ingrained in the British psyche (or at least until recently). Plainsong is the same as "plain chant." It refers to a "low" mass as opposed to a "high" mass, which is sung in either English or Latin all the way through. Plainsong is as beautiful as it is simple.

I've been collecting Cure video for over 25 years and this ranks up there with the best video of the Cure that I have. The rehersal is being played fast and very loose. Robert hasn't quite remembered the words but the band is playing incredibly tight. Borris is like a metronome keeping perfect timming with the crack of the snare or double snare. Porl is absoluteley twirling it up on the guitar and simon is just deadly on the bass, each note just cutting through you. But the best part of the video is NO JUMP CUTS, they just let the camera linger on Robert as he belts out Pictures of You or Fascination Street, and you can see him play guitar right after his vocals. He plays better guitar when he's not signing. The camera also just hangs over Simon so you can see and feel his every bass note. The only problem with this is that the songs aren't complete and it does jump around from time to time, but that is nothing compared to what you get on this video.

collecting for that long, what is your fav must see cure video?? this is incredible
@JubeProductions3 жыл бұрын
@@bsmithcutshair Well it really depends. Some of my favorite video might not be that special to you because I was there. But probably one of my favorite shows is the T&C II, January 17, 1991 secret show where they played a warm up gig under the name "5 imaginary boys". It was a small club of about 500 people and they debuted 3 new songs from the wish album. Well 2 sons and a B-side. You can see some of this footage in the official released Play Out VHS tape. But only a few songs. If you look hard enough you can find ok quality video from the side stage. There are also a few very good bootlegs of the audio of that show. The reason I like it so much was this was back when I first started getting deep into them. Also, I think they were at the top of their game and well rehearsed from the summer 1990 festivals. The song they open with was a new one called The Big Hand, and it's chilling. Then later they go into a new song called, at the time, 1,2,3,4 and it's a different version of Wendy time. I like it much better than the album version. But I might be confusing it with cut, that was the other new song debuted. Those songs were going to be put out on an EP, but Robert felt they were too good and saved them for wish, released 16 months later. I Love talking about The Cure, so if there is anything else, please ask.

@JubeProductions3 жыл бұрын
@@bsmithcutshair Haha, I love your enthusiasm. The Cure have such a long career, and a huge catalogue so if you are a new fan, there is so much to take in. I also love seeing new fans, because The Cure isn't limited to a certain time period, or a single category. Their influences run deep, including a lot of artists today. I have seen entire generations of a family share the love for The Cure. Fans of the Cure from the 80's have grown up, had families of their own and now their children enjoy the music. It's kind of what happened with The Beatles. I was born in the early 70's and my parents were fans, so I grew up listening to them, and therefore have loved The Beatles as long as I remember. I have a very deep understanding of The Cure and their music as well as their history. It's not because I think I am so smart, but just by default, being a hard core fan for over 25 years, I have gained this understanding. I love music, but for me The Cure is on another level than the rest of my musical tastes. There aren't too many things that would get me to drop everything, get on a plane, and fly across the country to drive another 3 days, to see a band, but that's exactly what I have done to see The Cure....more than once. Sometimes I wish that I just discovered The Cure today, so I could go on this journey once again. If you are a new fan and you're going to take that journey, I wish you luck. There is just so much out there for you to find. Enjoy it!
