"I dont care.. If only i could say that and not feel so... sick and scared". Words that apply to my life and makes this song so personal.

That's true. My bassist followed the cure on every tour from 1992 on in the states and hung out with the band quite a few times. He brought up "The Top" quite a few times to Robert Smith. While he never actually said "No, we'll never play that again" he did make it pretty clear that, for whatever reason, it'll probably never happen. But then again with these guys, never say never :)

Must admit the top was so overlooked by me for years and im not sure why ? anyhow i cant stop listening to it past few months. so different so psychedelic so non commercial. just bazzar crazy unpredictable songs.. just brilliant and to think he was just 9 days before he turned 25.

@darkforest121 When I go for long walks in the middle of a Moonlit night, I listen to The Top, Lament, The Figurehead, A Strange Day, The Same Deep Water as You, and All Cats are Grey over and over and over again. Sometimes I am gone for 2 hrs. So Mesmerizing !!!!!!

the song reminds me the the end by the doors. i think its got similar themes. things were never the same for robert once he made it to "the top" and the loneliness it brought with it. the song is mesmorising kind of atrance like nightmare. one of the cures best and i love the album

yeah, isn't it? I love this track. My band covered it awhile back with Tara Vanflower of Lycia on vocals.

The Top is a very underrated album. It is after the dark period after Pornography and before their masterpiece...The Head on the Door.

The top is such a quirky album, and this and shake dog shake are the best tracks in my opinion!

I totally agree with you on the fact that the top s highly underrated... as far as "the head on the door" being their masterpiece, that's another subject : ever heard disintegration ? ;o)

I think the reason people say this is the worst cure album is that they like repetition. This was a little different than most of their other stuff, so it probably didn't jibe with the dance club people.

You can hear Smithys influence on the Hyena album. In fact it couldve been the forerunner to The Top

...the top is awesome...he has a wedding ring on, he wasn't married until later?...and isn't this the tour that Andy freaked out and trashed a Japanese Hotel room?....this line up is the best....although Roger is the best keyboard player they had....

First off, know that this is one of my all-time fav's... ... ... but keyboard dude really sucked! I'm impressed at how well Bob wasn't distracted by that and stayed within those songs!...
