The Curious Case of Ghost in the shell 2017

This is an older video from 2018. A year previous to that, I went and saw this in theaters with my father (who also loved Ghost in the Shell and cyberpunk in general) and we were both less than impressed. This one really didn't hold up well on home video either because watching this again to prepare this video was such a chore. Despite whatever faults this video has, I am still very proud of it.
To keep from having a very intrusive black rectangle at the bottom, I am letting the very first version of the You Can't Unwatch It logo remain. Reminds me of simpler times I guess.....

Needed to have Rutger Haur to play Batou (see his performance in Split Second where he plays a similar character). Unfortunately he wasn't alive.

He...would have made an interesting Batou. The actor who portrayed him in the film did a fine job with what he had. He could have been better though.

It is pretty, just like Johansen. But just like her it is soulless and boring with no emotion. She had the look, and so did the film, but they got so much else wrong.

They tired to shoehorn in a stupid #metoo subplot instead of focusing on the original "what is a soul?" theme. as far as Live Action goes. Avalon (2001) is far closer thematically and visually to Ghost in the Shell

Avalon is a movie that no one talks about sadly. That's a good one.
