Mentioning Palworld and Nintendo, that's something that really scares me as an indie dev in a small studio. Nintendo's Palworld lawsuit, if they win, would set a precedent that could lead to indies no longer being able to make games. Nintendo filed a patent AFTER Palworld was released and are now suing them on that patent. They're also applying for that patent in the US. Imagine AAA continuing to decline, but they all patent all of their mechanics so indies can't ever do what Palworld did again. This is the first time I'm legit worried about my ability to make games in the future. This is dangerous and needs to be talked about more.
@PaddaPlaysАй бұрын
@@fray989 it is insane what is happening. This is the kind of situation that I would hope the majority of the gaming community would hold Nintendo accountable to. We are so quick to play video games where the main premise of the plot is to dismantle or destroy big corporate, or powerful, evil, greedy empires. But how will we respond to this stuff in reality? We vote with our wallets, not our X (Twitter) rants.

I needed this video, I invested 18 years in a company and landed my dream job. After getting laid off because of very bad financial decisions by that company I will NEVER marry myself to a gaming company ever again. This video has HIT EVERY POINT I have been feeling for 3 years. I will also chip in some points from a dev's point of view who still heavily plays and cares a lot about gaming. This video has nailed strong pointers about the current direction of money over player experience. You have targeted so many reasons the collapse of AAA is going downhill. I have worked in the gaming industry for 14 years and can tell you, "It is about profit, not the player experience."

Time is a big one that not enough people mention. Having a time limit is one of the things I like about Helldivers 2 and the Vampire Survivors clones. You know exactly how long a gameplay session is going to be, because every mission is on a timer. That's not a big deal if you're going to spend the entire weekend playing non-stop... but for everyone else, it makes a real difference. It really helps to know that I'll have achieved something in the next 40 minutes, because I have only an hour available that day.

Great job on the video. I used to be a really hardcore gamer, but nowadays life is just to busy. The current state of the gaming industry saddens me. I used to have one (competitive) main game for a few years, and then allot of shorter titles from AAA studios that gave a really good experience with a short, but really good campaign. Nowadays there are so many games that need dozens / hundreds of hours of your time, that I don't buy most of them. When the first studios started chopping up their games to sell the rest of the content later, I was already very sceptic about the path we were heading. Everyone I know told me: what does it matter, you don't have to buy the other stuff. Now look at the state of the games industry.

Devs are no different bro it is in their hand that the game is what it is, they aren't free of greed the days are gone when there were passionate devs now there are only greedy devs remaining (not all are greedy i dont mean that) which are releasing a game and dont care about the game breaking glitches and bugs and hope that some modder will fix it i dont care (u know who i am talking about) and it is not bad that dev add mods officially to the game as an update talking about the witcher 3 devs (after giving the modder his pay) and 1 more thing is that the devs can give a drm free game to the user by buying a game on steam or any other platform which gives a key to gog (talking about the witcher & the witcher 2 you get a gog key which u can redeem on gog to get a drm free copy of it) but some devs are just a##h0les putting launcher to their games when it doesnt needs any and wanting an internet connection to play a single player game like wtf why cant i just play it in offline steam mode why do i have to connect it to internet just to play a fkin single player rpg Game isnt made by only the company it is made by passionate devs it you cant innovate then how tf are you crying about it got destroyed by the company backing us. @@AQU1L_ When you have publishers pushing down on you to make a game THEY and their stakeholders think should be, then you either shut up and do it to get paid because you have bills to pay or you leave the studio to pursue game development somewhere else where you'll make what you want to make and care to make. You can't call developers greedy, because they're MADE to make games that wind up as rushed cashgrabs. You have a very short-sighted view of the developer-publisher dynamic. By your idea of developers being greedy- If you're an animator for a game and that game ends up being a bug-riddled, cash-grab mess because you were kept to a deadline the game cannot accommodate, then you're lazy and greedy.

@LordJaroh22 күн бұрын
I honestly don't have an issue with not having NPCs to a degree. Having a "lonelier" Wasteland (think The Road) is intriguing, and something I am thinking about modding into Fallout 3/4. However, that means the actual gameplay and environmental experiences need to be thay much better, as that will be everything you experience. THAT was the issue with Fallout 76. It was not better. It was the same Bethesda experience, minus quests and NPCs, but with more bugs and terrible monetization practices.

Im going to speak as a causal gamer from Pakistan, South Asia. As a kid, and all the way into college, I never had enough money to buy a lot of these games, as my pocket money was limited around those years. I only managed to buy pirated CDs and DVDs of old games for years, having a few games but they ate up a lot of my free time (Age of Empires 2, Battlezone 2, GTA San Andreas and a few others). I had heard of Activision, Ubisoft, and other companies from friends who were showered in pocket money and had consoles for themselves while I only had a PC. I always thought to myself "One day, ONE DAY, I'll be able to get these!" Cue the time I reach university, and I'm left ASTOUNDED at what the fuck is happening at these companies. Seriously, what. The hell? How is it that gaming as an industry has been more profitable than ever, yet plenty of big companies are being this inept? Whos running the show? Who are tjey hiring? I dont even think this is entirely a executive thing either, executives don't make games, developers do. And seeing how some of these people act on social media made me suspicious thar these aren't the best people for whats supposed to be the cream of the crop of the industry. And thats not accounting the horrendous price jackings that made these games feel that much more out of reach to me than ever before. Even with regional price adjustments, its too damn much. Here I am, 2024, now with a job, using it as a safety net whole chasing my ambitions for becoming an independent writer and comic artist, while doing gaming as a side hobby on the weekends. Looking at the AAA industry fills me with nothing but apathy because this is what they wrought on themselves. They asked for this, they wanted this, and I'm just going to leave it at that. I have accepted that, for all these peoples claims of wanting a "modern audience", and making inclusive games, that I'm not really the target audience for them, because they sure as shit never considered people who can't afford these for various reasons. So I looked away and turned to the indie and AA scene and emulating and playing older games. Make no mistake, this part of the scene ain't perfect. Emulation sites and providers can go down, and some indie devs are honestly not much better than AAA developers in terms of mindset, some being just as entitled and arrogant, you'll run into stinkers everywhere. BUT these games run on many types of hardware and are cheaper which is why I prefer looking here. Its got a lot of charm to it.

It's not just games, it's movies and television as well. No one is getting what they want anymore. This disconnect between producers and consumers has become so alarming that it should honestly be studied. It's not just political ideologies clashing, or controversy, or even companies making the wrong bets. How can it be that the majority of western produced entertainment is failing, not JUST by a margin, but by completely missing the mark? What's even more surprising is that talking to the average person reveals that most of the things that go wrong are seemingly obvious to us all. When you really look at... it almost feels intentional.

People forgave No Man Sky, people forgave Cyberpunk 2077, and shit when we are treated with respect we make sure we spread the word about fantastic games like Witcher 3... The only reason why people are celebrating Ubisoft downfall is not because we hate them, it's because it shows that the market functions to some extent. That it is not sustainable being contrarian, hateful, and antagonistic to your customer base... Shit, we meme about Gabe Newell being god simply because he makes sure that the customer is respected (Which btw results in him having a networth of about 16 TIMES that of Satan 1 also known as Bobby Kotek, CEO of Activision...) While i spend a lot of time gaming, it doesnt mean i want to spend it with battle passes and daily logins. Artificial gains or fomo ruins the experience and damages the progression thats meaningful. I get disconnected and each passing moment means less and less eventually making me question why im playing the game. As a casual gamer it becomes more of an issue. When you dont get value out of the product or it wastes your time it starts to break the intention of purchase. I have much to say on the matter, but i think you spoken mind succinctly. your first 3 sentences warmed my heart! your statement greatly resembles to my situation and i am tired of the AAA Games trying to to much and tick all those boxes. Space Marine 2 which i beat on veteran in 5 sessions, with some only 1 operations and some 3-4 operations and i loved every minute of it. IT was awesome! It was short BUT it was wonderfully crafted for my desire and fulfilled it completely.

You rekindled a lot of love in my heart. For a minute, it lookes like AAA games and their predatory monetisation was the only future because of how much money they make...that indie studios would be eaten alive in the face of their profit but no. The opposite. Thanks for reminding me.

Yes, THIS video, felt warm. I love that you say this. This guy truly cares. - FYI, a big thank you from me too, to you puff and to the creator. Love this direction.

Also a casual gamer and I’ve already given up on modern gaming and cancelled my Xbox pass, I now just play retro games on my 1999 iMac; descent, tomb raider, doom and unreal are keeping me entertained

Padda: I truly thank you for bringing not only an honest, intelligent, well-informed, perfectly paced, and a truly heart felt video and message. You speak for people like me and those I know, people that just don't have the balls to introduce a new mindset and frontier to gaming. Again, thank you for shouting out the gamer dads. You didn't cut corners or bullshit or conform to something you know to be false. Everything was executed well, excellent might I say, in this video. I look forward to seeing what you create next! Your passion and honesty spreads like wildfire; KEEP IT UP! ♥ Maybe, one day soon, we will have a repaired gaming community, and this guy Padda, we need more guys like this guy. I'm speechless, simply Excellent Padda!

omg I rarely comments on videos I watch, but watching this give me a time of peace, when there's no politic involves and just sharing what your thought about the current gaming industry is. we casual gamer just want to enjoy games during our free times, and seems like that AAA company is not giving us instead trying to force BS non sense into us. i just realize i havn,t been enjoying any of the aaa game instead trying to find my peace from indie developer.

As soon as I got to the Ubisoft section, I cringed because I knew what was coming. This was an amazing video. I really hope we get to see a ton more in the near future. It is very rare to have insightful and complete videos out of South African creators. You've put into words why I struggle to get excited for games nowadays.

I’m in the minority here but I actually still enjoy Ubisoft single player games and think a lot of the hate they get is unjustified
@D4C_LoveTrain1Ай бұрын
@@BrianR146most of the hate are by people who don't play Ubisoft games. AC sells millions each release because they objectively aren't bad games even with valid reasons.
@BrianR146Ай бұрын
@@D4C_LoveTrain1 exactly! The AC games are still fun to play (AC Unity and Syndicate are both underrated and hold up well-as do all the AC games before them) the modern AC games have a ton of content to enjoy. Even Star Wars Outlaws-it wasn’t THAT bad, and they’re working to fix bugs and stealth. People act like they’re completely broken bad experiences
@BrianR146Ай бұрын
That said the old AC games really need remasters or at least next gen updates
