That’s one thing that I feel like this series have done right, is make an immortal character with very unique and basic abilities. Like, when you think about Ouken, it’s not like he’s a deity. He’s just someone that can’t be killed, who’s really skilled in terms of his humanity.

I think she tricked him, offering a way to ease his mind (as he was losing his sanity)... but she really put his sentience to sleep. She even says it is easy to control those who lack awareness or something like that. I think she promised to end his suffering, used a spell to make him lose his awareness of what he was doing, and now he's "asleep" and is acting almost like her puppet while the real Ouken is sort of in the same kind of void where Daida exists.

Yeah, I just also figured that it is some you could dodge since Ouken never gained any superpower when he was born besides immortality later on. Theory, his immortality is just fairly new and they thought gaining that power can lose yourself but I think it wasn't. Try to cut Kage a little slack for giving up info so freely. Our adorable little shadow boi is only a very young teen, if not younger, and has spent several of the last years by himself (no mentor to teach him things about the world and people). Him and Bojji are both very young for what they are dealing with... Kage's just a proud shadow boi talking up his best friend, excited to share what a badass his liege has become. They're bodies and brains are developed enough for that, but learning all the stuff that comes with surviving to adulthood, they still lack that. I think of Kage the same way... maybe the shadow clan are born with their shadow abilities unlocked and they know it like it's second nature, or learn it innately, almost like they are the same as a baby learning to walk (it tends to happen just naturally), but without any guidance from adults about the bad side of the world and people, he lacks social intelligence.
