I’m sure I can’t be the only person who’s noticed this but I’ve never seen it mentioned anywhere. We all know that the night Ambrose cashed in, every member of the SHIELD held the title in the same night. But another cool thing is that Roman’s first ever title win was after pinning Dean (final of that tournament for the vacant title), Dean’s first ever title win was after pinning Seth (MITB cash in), and Seth’s first ever title win was after pinning Roman (heist of the century). Best faction ever

Knowing that the first Money in the Bank was nearly 20 years ago, really makes me feel old. In my opinion though, in those early matches, Shelton Benjamin really put that match on the map.
@Unitenotfight6 ай бұрын
Shelton was incredible. I became a fan of him while he was in OVW around 2000, and got to meet and talk to him several times. Dude was really nice and humble. I remember telling him once he was name dropped in an issue of WWE magazine (in a piece on Lesnar while he was also still in OVW), and told him that’s a good sign, and eventually he’d be there. But he seemed like he wasn’t good enough to make it. No man, you’re going to be there, you are way better than anyone they currently have. 😂 But it’s a shame WWE never did more with him. I get he wasn’t the greatest on the mic or with character work, but they worked around all that for Lesnar, they could have done the same for him. Could have had Shelton be a Paul Heyman guy and have Heyman do all the talking for him. Could have had an incredible fued with him and Brock, but who’s to say that wasn’t in the plans before Lesnar decided he wanted to play football. They say Scott Hall is the best to never win a world title, I disagree. Sheltons in ring work far exceeded any short comings he had, to the point I would rank him above Hall. With all due respect to the bad guy 🤘

There's also another unmentioned curse: winners who won their first world title via a cash-in and would go on to win the other world title would eventually get cashed in on for the other title. Edge and Del Rio cashed in for the WWE title but got cashed in on holding the WHC. Punk and Bryan cashed in for the WHC, got cashed in on holding the WWE title. Even Rollins technically won both titles when they were unified as a single title and was cashed in on when he won it a second time.

I think WWE should make MITB an occasional PLE that they should do once in a while when they have a solid plan to follow. Because even though it's a cool concept, it takes a lot of planning beforehand to make a cash-in successful in long-term. Following questions should already have answers before doing a MITB event :- -Who's winning (preferably a mid-carder who's on the cusp of breakthrough). -When will the cash-in take place and on whom. -How will the subsequent title reign look like? Will it be a short reign or a longer one? -Will the cash-in be just a moment or if it will have an impact in big picture leading to a storyline. Also not doing it every year would make it less oversaturated and would bring back it's prestige.
@gablefanproductions016 ай бұрын
The most notable thing about Jack Swagger winning MITB was he was suppose to Cash in on John Cena the Raw after WM26, win and then hold the WWE Championship until SummerSlam but Cena flat out refused to drop the belt to Swagger so it was pivoted to him holding the World Title till SummerSlam...then his fued with Big Show was so bad Vince pulled the plug on Swagger's push months before SummerSlam...

Funny thing Oli doesn't note here, according to Edge, the original plans by the writers were to have him cash it in like RVD later would. To just guarantee a title shot at a PPV, but then he went to Vince said "Well I'm a heel. I should cash this in when someone is beaten up so bad they can't fight back. That's what the character would do." and somehow, bafflingly, Vince was the only person to agree with him. What Vince says goes, so he steamrolls that through and declares the cash in personally. When Edge hands him the briefcase, you can see Vince say something to him. According to Edge, he told him "Prove me right." Hilarious to think that the briefcase is only used in the way it is because Edge was a villain.

Imagine if Swagger and Miz had had the briefcase concurrently though, like in retrospect that seems like a missed opportunity. Granted the chosen winners would have limited it greatly but like if you didn't book Morrison in a random tag match at Mania could we have seen a Miz and Morrison briefcase unification ladder match at the 2010 Summerslam?
