had a very similar thing happen to me a few years ago with a cop and didn't have a contract. told him we were going to call his department and tell his sergeant, ended up getting the money. I would suggest giving it a try it might be worth it.

First thing u don't need a signed contract. Verbal agreement is fine alot harder to prove exactly wat the work is unless u have txt messages. Not sure in Florida but there's wat they call contractor lien u can put on the property for non payment just be sure if it's legal in ur state give him 30 days then go file it. Don't ever think ur in the wronge u up held ur agreement.
@EntreprenuerDavis Жыл бұрын
It was only a plot of land so I didn’t think it would hold any power if I placed a lien on the property. I would definitely do that today though

The exact same thing happened to be with a former cop. But she was the chief police officer the city… she was so happy with the work and at the very end she wouldn’t pay me for all of it. $900 short and I had to learn the hard way

I work for a design and build company. Contracts. Payment schedule. This will save you heartaches. You don’t have a leg to stand on. You’re being unprofessional. Live and learn. No negotiation when job is underway. Otherwise it’s called change order.

Today one of our project managers let a client change tile direction for an entire floor. Verbal agreement only. No change order, not even a quick note on the contract or renderings which he should have on hand, also the customer should have their copy on hand. Somebody should sign or even initial this change. The PM was being casual bc he’s usually lazy and the client is a nice guy. The tile is in, we just have to grout. To undo it would be massive labor, three days maybe. The lead salesperson yelled at him for quite a while. Let’s hope this ends well. The nicest clients turn when things don’t go to their liking even if that’s exactly what the said to do. Now we won’t have a leg to stand on because nothing is signed or initialed. This PM gets away with it bc he’s the owner’s brother. I order and design all the millwork. My middle name is ass coverage, that’s the name of the game. I don’t do any verbal. They all know that and are used to me being strict.
@jdwilk50232 ай бұрын
The price is absolute and easy to agree on but the quality of the work is relative. So it's just safer for you to talk about what is expected and get it written down so both are on the same page about what the end result should look like. Even the customer may not realize the detail they may have to go into so there's no surprises. Many people will say that's not necessary but if you've got it in writing you're running a tighter business. And it worth the little extra effort when it comes to getting your money or not.

I'm shocked you didn't give him the remainder of his trees and debris back. It was in a dump trailer after all. Just back it on up and leave the pile. He refused to pay so give it back.

I’m gonna put my 2 cents in, I know we talked before about working a job hourly or quoting a flat figure, I think you said you finished the job you quoted him 10 k for in one week,he felt paying you 2 k a Day was excessive, people want value for their money. My belief is that by working for a fair hourly rate, the customer sees more value in what you’ve done,.i always charge hourly with a fairly accurate estimate on hours required and never have issues collecting.even if he had paid you in full he would have badmouthed you saying you charged him 10 k for a weeks work, ide be curious to know how many hours you worked your machine for the 10k
@EntreprenuerDavis10 ай бұрын
I don’t like working for an hourly rate because then customer will end up complaining about that I am not working fast enough or make up some crazy excuse why they don’t want to pay before they had a unbelievably cheap price in there head it works better for me to tell them a price and get it done on my time.
@PremiumFuelOnly5 ай бұрын
Working for an Hourly rate is ripping yourself off when you are efficient because the cost of equipment and wear and tear still has a set cost that doesn't go away just because it was done faster.
