That was my house (built in 1951) until the local government found out. The septic tank was a 55 gallon drum and a dry well. Drained into an open wooded area across the street. The neighbors house was on the same drain pipe. Never had to worry about clogging up the leech field though. Worked effectively effortlessly and flawlessly. Gross, well yeah. But it worked.

@@pakviroti3616 I suppose the thinner the TP the better, wouldn't it? 👍 That said: As an alternative to wet wipes, I take a length of TP and fold it into four layers (8 plys) before wetting it under the tap. @@dieseldragon6756 Well, what sort of septic system. There is the leach-field type and the aerobic type. A leach-field system is always going to develop a crust. An aerobic system should not as long as everything is working properly. You will still need to have the tanks pumped periodically to deal with sediment.

Septic *systemd* at 12:22? Never realised septic tanks ran Linux! 💩🐧😋 One way of dealing with TP that's been in my mind lately is having a watertight container (Perhaps a 1 gal milk bottle with the neck cut off) half filled with water, into which the TP is dropped. Like a toilet bowl, the water will trap the smell and prevent it from coming into the bathroom. Ideally this is emptied regularly into something appropriate (Ideally a soil pit, if local regulations allow one) from which the water will drain, and the TP (And what's on it) will decompose into the soil, keeping the septic clear. 👍 That said; If the above isn't possible or permitted by local laws, disposable bags and a lidded bin are the next best option. Just make sure it has a closely fitting lid! 😁

There is a guy in my state who does this type of content also on KZbin. He had one client who he charged almost $1000 to due to the difficult layout of the system and getting to it. It was one of those home built on a side of a steep hill and they had to go crazy on the extensions and pumps just to empty his tank, which by default was located further down the hill and not reachable by truck. I literally wondered if the septic tank was put in first and the house then built all around it. And yeah, if it needed to be replaced, I couldn't even imagine how you would go about do that at that particular location.

I was watching this too thinking, WTF. I know people who go more than a decade between septic clean outs. Hell, I know people who have never done one in 20 years. In my own youth, my parents only did it once. And did it again after I was an adult and gone. So twice in the 50 years that septic system was in service (and still in service today). But then I also wondered if maybe the tanks are just now smaller in size due to some federal or state regulation. Or back in the days in my youth, we didn't have things like sanitize wipes being flushed like we do now. If that family has some young kids, I could see a dozen wipes getting flush down the toilet every day. And yeah, you might end up with a septic system call once a year as wipes are not designed for septic systems. I grew up when cloth diapers were still used. My mother used my old cloth diapers for dust cloth for years afterwards.

I lived in my house for 20 years and we always threw toilet paper into the garbage bin instead of flushing it. We also post signs in the bathrooms wen guest come over so they know not to flush them as well and no papertowels or flushable wipes. Also for our kitchen and when washing dishes/pans we heat up the cooled oils/fat/grease on pan just enough to easily pour into jars and wipe it clean before we attempt to wash. Common practices like these will help the longevity and lifespan of your septic tanm. We do this everyday and just want straight up poop and water to go into our 1500 gallon tank and it has been fabulous. No clogs, no backing, and everytime we pump its ez peezy. We rather have our septic tank lasting for years on end then to have to worry about the drain fields being clogged. I've also had friends do the same and they never had a issue. Also, if your main drainage pipe gets clogged and sometimes snaking don't do the trick. I suggest getting a drain bladder and pushing that into your drain clean out pipe. It always worked 9/10 times from my experience and way better than a snake. I've helped other friends who had backing issues due to grease/flushablewipes/papertowels being all stuck at the end of that drainage pipe. Works wonders and saves u from the headache. Make sure to use a pretty sturdy strong stiff enough hose when doing it tho.

This is standard in some places (Particularly Greece) as their drains were only built for pee and poo, so they're only 50mm (2") diameter. Paper (And the 💩 from carb-heavy diets) clogs them up very easily, which is why you have to dispose of it separately. 🧻 This isn't so much the case in Western Europe outside of communes and remote locations (Using septics) and is a very hard thing for us British to get our heads around as a rule, but that's because sewer service has been the default for us for at least the last 150 years so we kinda expect it. 💩🇬🇧😇

My septic system is going on 40 years old. Never had an issue. Besides regular pumping there are rules that must be done. Full disclosure, I’m not going the throwing used toilet paper in the trash route. The septic installer said use Scott’s tissue. It breaks down the most readily. Do not use Charmin or any other thick paper. It doesn’t breakdown and it clogs the toilet way too easily. But you do you. But nothing else goes in. No wipes. No feminine hygiene products. No food scraps including coffee grounds. Especially NO GREASE OR OILS. Had friends that had to replace their entire system because they poured grease and oil down the drain plus used Charmin. Plugged up the sand in the leech field and the whole thing had to be dug up, removed and replaced. $20,000 fix almost 20 years ago. Imagine it’s a lot more now. Wipe those dishes clean before washing. Only run your dish and clothes washer with a full load. Saves money on water energy and detergent. Never use chlorine bleach in your wash. Or chemical drain openers. It kills the bacteria that breaks down the solids. Liquid fabric softener contains waxes that can clog up the leech field as well. No chemicals of any kind. Overuse of any detergents is not recommended. All that kills the bacteria. A large happy population of bacteria in your septic system is the best thing for it. Use a pro biotic/enzyme like RidX or Roebic. It helps maintain the biology of the system. Never drive or park on the leech field. It can compact the sand that can interfere with the waste water percolating through the field. Follow these rules and you’ll never have issues with your system. And your plumbing will be happy too.

I live in Ohio on a septic. Those tanks looked awful small to me (compared to mine anyways). I'm wondering if septic concept is new to those homeowners. We don't use bacterial soap or bleach anymore, we got rid of our garbage disposal and all food stuffs go into the trash, not down the sink. We use toilet paper and we started pumping our system out every 3-4 years. Our system is 40 years old and we have 5 people living in the home. Last two pump outs our septic person said our system has improved drastically over the last 10 years since we first called him. I have inspected it myself and concur. The last 3 pump outs we have put 1 or 2 gallons of pro pump bacteria into the system. He did it the first year, I have followed up doing it myself after he pumps.

I have been a subscriber to your channel since your beginning. My wife says that I am sick for watching this but it is really good information and advice if you have a septic system which we do. Last spring we were having affluent water pooling in our backyard and I was afraid that we were going to have to have a new drain field put in. But it wasn't the drain field. The problem was the septic tank on the outlet side was broken! The septic company said that they could try and repair the tank and not replace it. So they patched the tank with a special kind of cement. They also installed some new pipes and a new D box. knock on wood, the problem appears to be solved! The backyard is dry as a bone and no issues. I do have a question for you though, "The D box they installed was put in the ground with lid at ground level. Does that D box lid need to be covered up with dirt? I do check it occasionally to see if there is any problem. So far so good. Thank you pal for all you do.

This guy is so comfortable handling pipe that touched shit, handling gloves that touched shit, carrying them , hugging them as if they were not shit but flour or chocolate powder. Too gross for my liking 😡

I live in a country 🇬🇧 where bidets are very few and far between, but I've been doing the same thing using the _Finnish Method_ (You wash whilst sat on the toilet, rather than having a dedicated bowl) and I can say that it's worked wonders for a health condition that using toilet paper alone aggravates badly... 🚽🌊👍
