The ruby rebalanced mod for Ce expands upon that crazy marine. Instead of him killing himself when you walk away you hear a loud bang like before, when you come back this time there’s just a blood stain, implying they knocked him out/killed him and dragged away his body to be turned into bio mass or quickly converted into a human flood form.
@cyborg-mark-vi
@cyborg-mark-vi Жыл бұрын
I also like Ruby's approach about the moment the bang happens. Instead of occuring in the room in which the marine is, it occurs when you cross the light bridge after you've left the room. It definitely is an excellent way to ressurect this cut content without having scripting issues like the devs seem to mention in their commentary.

Another detail is that if you chicken out of the facility when you first enter, and use the lift to go back into the swamp, there's a bunch of marine corpses laid out around the area. I assume it was an attempt to creep you out and make you come back inside. Trying to say to the player that it isn't safer outside.

I heard from other comment here that they're just there to be pre-loaded and would be teleported somewhere else later This idea is cooler though
@LG1ikLx
@LG1ikLx 9 ай бұрын
@@blueberry4209Nah they wouldn't be there for pre loading. If that were the case they would under the map. I don't think you would pre load textures like that at all. You are wasting the limited resources that consoles had back then. Not to mention character models aren't demanding and can be rendered with no hassle. How ever certain AI encounters are sometimes pre rendered on console. But they are at their spawn points, not teleported from somewhere else. Normally when pre rendering is done (Not for character modals) is that you will have low resolution textures pre rendered. Sometimes even without collision. Then when these are closer or in the player cameras line of sight the resolution will increase. But character modals are normally rendered in full res in all cases. This is all just in my experience. I'm not a professional but I have spent time messing around in game SDKs like UE and Unity. I also done loads of game glitches like out of maps and section skips and that includes doing this in Combat Evolved. There is actually breach you can do in combat evolved, I believe it's in the level "Keyes" where you find him inside some flood ball. At the start of the level you can breach through a wall and walk round a corner. You will see enemy AI pre loaded but because you haven't gone through a checkpoint (A section that tells the game to load the next sequence of events) the ai will not interact with you.

@@LG1ikLx I'm not a game developer but I am a computer scientist. You clearly know what you're talking about, to the point where I'm surprised you said you're not a developer. The only thing I disagree with is character models not being computationally expensive. Although in the case of Halo CE I do mostly agree, the statement is just too broad, in many games the character models are among the most resource intensive assets. Think about the physics that makes many strands of female characters' hair bounce realistically, that in and of itself requires a great deal of computing power. And usually characters are rendered to an exceptionally high standard too. But yes, the elites don't have pretty hair and an 8k texture map :P Oh also whether or not it makes sense to pre-load models when working with limited computing power depends on the situation, but in this case, you're probably right.

If you have a modded Original Xbox, you should check out the 1749 build of this game. Has a lot of this cut content turned on, including some extra rooms and even the Flamethrower! Edit: At 15:11 the Marines are set to half health, not 0 health. That 0 value is for shields, which Marines wouldn't have any.

@JohnOmniviz
@JohnOmniviz Жыл бұрын
@@xTooPalex no its not possible as there is a blocked door in the first level, have to noclip or toggle cam mode then tp to cam to get past it. also IIRC the hanger in truth and reconciliation has horrible lighting issues that cause the game to run at less then 1 FPS, I recall trying to slowly get past that but I dont recall if it was possible or if it just crashed. I did end up just using noclip to skip that section of the ship and iirc it does procced as normal, this was on a debug system with double the RAM so who knows if the game would hit the 1FPS or just crash sooner on retail. BTW the game reads a cheats text file from its root so you could still use debug commands and cheats with button combos.

@TheVengefulVadam The Halo 1 marines do have shields as a stat, though they don't have any graphical effects for it like the elites do! Their shields leak 20% of incoming damage straight to their health. I believe that the armored marines only leak damage to their health when their shields are below 40% as well. I could be wrong on that one specifically as I don't have a fresh mod toolset from Halo CE to double check my claim, my current mod toolset has changes from a while back. Setting their shields to 0 removes about half of the overall hit points a shotgun marine has, and it's even worse for the unarmored assault rifle marines as 2/3 of their hit points are their shields! Edit: After a quick testing of the units_set_current_vitality script function, it does appear to set their health to 0.5 and shields to 0, and not to a percentage!

Also (in case anyone doesn’t already know), the 1749 build of CE has Guilty Spark introducing himself as “342 Guilty Spark”. This was due to a typo that was in the version of the script his voice actor was given for some reason. In the final release, the line was edited to correctly say “343 Guilty Spark” by Marty O’Donnell. Apparently, Spark’s VA delivered ALL his lines with this typo!

I appreciate the casual depth of knowledge you bring to this. For what it’s worth, I think I’d prefer the cliff “ghost rifles” over the entrance ones, as they draw better attention to the “bigfoot” sightings, and resolve better than the final game build. By resolve, I mean the assault rifle fire from the facility entrance isn’t coherently explained: if you chase the source, there’s no assault rifles, corpses, or alternate paths before running into more covenant. Where did the AR users go? The cliff flood have the benefit of plausibly running off out of sight and reach.

For the floating ARs, I have a couple of things to say about it. 1. I think the developers were kinda going for a different vibe at the start. Cortana was basically telling chief that he needed to find the captain. That was her last order to him. So i kinda feel like the ARs were to keep goading the player into pushing forward since his objective, which was to get to the captain, looked like it was just around the corner every time. They might have been going for a bait and switch, where they trick you into rushing forward into the structure to group up with humans, and then show you how bad of an idea it was to come here when they reveal the flood. But I think removing the ARs makes the pacing of the level slower, and you pay more attention to the weird shit going on. 2. I think a reason why it was scrapped is because it doesnt make much sense. Covenant wouldnt be running away from humans, not this much anyways. If it were flood, then why would the flood keep on going further and further away from the chief? Why would we not have seen any signs of the flood like slime, body parts and mangled bodies? Also, whoever the float ARs would have been, they were going through the covenant lines. Humans wouldnt have been able to do that this quickly, and the flood would have attempted to kill all covenant instead of going past them.
@HarleyHerbert
@HarleyHerbert 10 ай бұрын
That's a good point regarding the change in pacing, I've seen a lot of videos of newer players playing this level for the first time and so many people just rush through and miss a lot of the atmospheric details in the level like the blood splatters and the body piles, if they had made it so you were encouraged to rush through more people would have missed a lot of the stuff that gave the level the scary feel to begin with and it wouldn't have had the same effect. Plus slowing things down means you're spending more time wandering through as the tension builds, which can't really happen as much if you just rush through

As someone who played the original CE on the OG Xbox I can tell you that you can go into the crazy marine room post cutscene, you just need to rotate around the map back to it. I only know this because shooting the elites enough you can "kill" them, they bleed and their mouth moves but when they died they slump as if they wernt properly dead.

I triggered 2 of the 5 bigfoot sightings on the Xbox 360 back in 2006, and i never figured out how to trigger them until you mentioned that its going under the rught wing of the spirit. Outstanding. Also, im sure you already onow this but if you take the lift BACK UP to the surface befofe the reveal room, the bodies of enemies can be seen everywhere that weren't there before, implying the combat forms on the surface reset up the trap while you were underground

Wait wait wait... when you come up to the entrance and you see the shooting... I always took this to be the marines and Sergeant Johnson finishing off the last bit of Convent troops before they took the elevator. Since, you know how you have to wait for the elevator? I always figured you were just a bit too late.

I actually expected the crazy marine to shoot himself in the head the first time I saw him. After exhausting his dialogue and leaving him behind, I walked back into the room to check up on him. I was disappointed to see him still alive and staring blankly at the door in silence. It felt uncanny that he wasn't saying or doing anything outside of shooting at me if I step in front of him. This is in contrast with the crazy marine in Reach on the level New Alexandria. Once his dialogue is exhausted, he keeps crying and moaning until he dies.

Those ARs ars supposed to be marines. You are basixally right behind johnson. Its why you see the elevator going down or coming back up or what ever. If you go out of the map there is that marine near where the other guns would have spawned too. So I guess in canon they came from up there.

When I first played this as a kid I was so scared of the flood it took me a week to sum up the courage to go through this level. When I did, I actually tried to make it back to the original lift and remember the horrible sinking feeling of watching the burning pieces of it fall down the shaft whilst the music played knowing I'd have to fight my way out. Best twist in game history in my opinion.

Calling the broken elevator an eastet egg is a big stretch. Also, I am fairly sure all the ARs firing were meant to be marines considering they are constantly shown to be moving forward, even using the lift. You say it yourself and the game shows us, the flood chase their targets endlessly, they don't fire and retreat. My guess is that the story for the level once played out differently, where you were hot on the tail of the marines entering the facility, as opposed to it being much later in the final. They probably kept the retail AR scene since it looked cool and they had already done the work for it, even if it failed to match up with the newer story direction. Would also explain why so many are cut. All of the ARs that were cut also lead directly to the room where the marines battled the flood, as well.

There was actually a way to see the unused "Bigfoot" Flood on the cliffs. Just before you enter the facility (where the ARs are shooting as the Covenant grunts run out), turn right and you'll see some boulders and a tree root clustered together. If you can time your jumps just right you can get on top of the boulders, jump to the tree root (or maybe the other way around, it's been a while since I played OG CE) and then , with some effort, jump onto the cliff. You and can then see the edge of the level. Walk around up there for a little while and you'll happen to come upon the unused Flood just standing there. And they are killable if memory serves me.

For some reason I've always had this memory of 343 Guilty Spark when I played Halo as a kid, where while I was traversing the swamp there was a structure with a short, narrow platform leading in, through and out the other end. I remember jumping on to one side and then seeing a combat form just barely visible on the other side before it leaped away, and I had no clue what it was. And yet I've never seen it again in the game, and now I'm not sure if it was something that happened or a dream I had about this level.
