I 💖 Jacques D'amboise..He came to our Public School in Upper Manhattan and taught us a dance routine we got to perform at Madison Square Garden in the 80s..I remember how my family was very proud of me and how great it made me feel with pride and others in my class as well. That experience was such a big lesson in my life and I will never ever forget it. Thank you Mr. D'amboise!

I'm so glad this video came up in my KZbin recommendations and that I got a copy of "I Was A Dancer". As someone who rarely finishes a book, I read this one cover to cover and can't find the words to describe how much I love this man I've never seen and how much his goodness has enriched the world. Even if you know nothing about the ballet world and found yourself watching this video by accident, as I did, get the book. It will make you feel good!

What a delightful man, Jacque d'Amboise, was! He brought enthusiasm & interest to everything that he did! Great dancer, teacher, & speaker!

It still amazes me each time how well of a speaker Wendy whelan is! So much fluidity, can carry the audience but so natural and conversational. Just like her dancing. This woman is highly talented and genuine

What a wonderful wonderful wonderful man Jacques D'Amboise is - u can tell by how proud, happy & well-adjusted his son is, not to mention both his children following in his footsteps.

Wendy Whelan is, I find, a delight, not only for her superlative gift on stage, but also for her warm and gracious manner toward us all. I will always be a little smitten.

I wish Jacques would go on the lecture circuit. I could listen to him forever. What wonderful dancers, all....especially the exquisite training of little Shelby. I so enjoyed it all.

Deborah Higginbotham I know what you mean. There are certain artists that seem bursting with the passion for the art form and when they have opportunity to speak, it becomes a kind of fountain of unexpected insight and revelation. I remember Manual Legris having this effect upon me while he was speaking in the "Bits" La Bayadere documentary. I could have listened to him for hours.

I found out today that Mr. d’Amboise passed away. So sad... but now he is dancing in heaven! A fabulous documentary is called “Afternoon of a fawn”. It was centered around Tanaquil LeClerq and George Balanchine and all of the amazing people in their lives. Jacques d’Amboise was part of that circle and I enjoyed watching him

What a beautiful family. It's just so unusual that so many members of a family really understand about performing arts. That would be so soothing for so many children with talent for the arts.

Thanks for sharing this! And yes, Jacques' book, his autobiography, is an engrossing read and a fantastic resource for anyone interested in his career, Balanchine and dance in general.

I was at SAB when Wendy Whelan was there. She was as brilliant then as she is now. And so is Jacques.

So sorry that you were not included at the table... that you only heard and smelled it. YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN INVITED TO THE TABLE. Jacques´ kids were guests at our house the summer of 1975 in Connecticut. His children stole money out of my purse. My aunt, a famous photographer, neglectfully decidedly to do nothing about it. I wonder how getting away with this theft affected the d´ Amboise children. FINALLY I am able to express the theft and that it greatly affected me. My aunt said that she would do nothing about it since the d´ Amboise children were important people. The theft of the money from my purse greatly affected me. It had taken a year for me to save that money.

That woman sadly pulls focus. Tsk, tsk, abhorrent stage behavior. Otherwise, Jacques couldn't have been better in everything he ever danced in!
