While the mighty warships of the MCRN are certainly impressive, they cant fight without ammunition and fuel. That's where supply ships like the D-Class come in. Today we'll take a closer look at the vessels responsible for maintaining the logistics of the Martian Navy.

Any supply ship is a valid military target. The MCRN is smart to have armed their underway replenishment vessels.

I would say because it carries torpedoes, which are mostly offensive weaponry it could be classed as a legitimate target. Also appreciate the videos your making on the expanse, was gutted when it ended so watching vids like this I look forward to watching.

With 2x tubes and 20x torpedoes it pretty much has the same torpedo armament as the Morrigan-Class Destroyers and Corvette-Class Frigates. Maybe they're not the same size/yield or have the same guidance and range but on paper 2x tubes with 20x torpedoes is quite a statement. I'd honestly expect supply/logistics ships to just have PDC grid for defense.

Under the question is a supply ship a legitimate target for war, the answer is yes. Under the 1907 Hague Convention, 'The Articles of War' - A military logistics ship is a legitimate target. Case study examples, (there are many) the most recent suitable example would be the 1982 Falkland's War between Britain and Argentina. This conflict primarily centred around naval power. Key logistics ship that were struck in air attacks, RFA Sir Tristan was a Royal Naval Amphibious Logistics Landing craft, that was struck in an airstrike in Bluff Cove. A civilian merchant ship that was requisitioned and mobilised to support for the war effort the SS Atlantic Conveyor carrying British military equipment and supplies was sunk by a missile attack. The Captain of the vessel went down with his ship (may his soul rest in the deep). And lastly, an Argentinian Air Force C130 Hercules transport aircraft was shot down by Royal Naval Sea Harrier Fighter Pilot LTCMDR Nigel 'Sharkey' Ward, DFC. There are exceptions to a non-combatant ship in times of war. Using the Falkand's War as a case study example, a P&O Ship SS Uganda was requisitioned by the Royal Navy as a Hospital Ship. Under the 1907 Geneva Convention, she is classed as 'Non-Combatant' and has protections under international law. Under the Geneva Convention, she is clearly marked as a hospital ship by red crosses and was coloured in non military colours. She and her crew are required to treat all casualties including those of the enemy - equally. In fact the SS Uganda, rescued and treated Argentine Sailors of a sunken battleship, returned her crew to Argentina and constantly communicated her position on open / international frequencies. There are allot of case study examples on a number of subjects you can draw from the 1982 Falkand's War.
