Ash I have one and I like it. I watch all the videos I can on it. This is another great video. It took a while but I did finally get it dialed in really nice as a pedal platform amp. I go direct to the PA and use in ears live. I do kinda miss a speaker cause my in ears do change the tone a bit but that's the trade off for the band having no stage wash. Anyway, I hooked up the D20 to our PA, and without ears dialed in my tones. If you go direct that lets you know what it really sounds like in the PA. I have not went in and tried to change power amp and cabinets in the software as of yet. I may experiment with that at some point. If you use a cabinet then you will dial it in very quickly I would think. And it is a bit bigger than a toaster, light weight, comes with a handy carrying bag.

Hello guys ! I bought a D20 few months ago and I love it. Your videos help me a lot to understand how the amp works and how to master it. I'm very happy to see all your explanations, many thanks ! However, I got a question, do you have any special tips when you're using the D20 with soundcard/speakers and not directly into a cab ? I mean, when you increase the gain level or the master level on the amp for example, all the potential of the D20 will not be reached if you're lowering the monitoring level of your soundcard. What listening level do you recommend to reach the "sweetspot" of the D20 without a cab ?
@RevvAmps4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Tod I'm glad they help! I recommend listening at whatever level is comfortable / appropriate. Generally speaking at home it's nice to have your studio monitors at least a good bit louder than your strings, acoustically. Set the volume on the amp to get the feel / amount of breakup you want, and then set your post-level strictly to the volume you want because the amp is your tone and the level through your monitors is just a means to an end. Like anything else (produced music, a mix you're working on, a movie) things will sound different at different volumes. The annoying thing about human ears haha.

Very informative video, but that's par for the course with both Doug and Shawn! That said, if you set aside the virtual power amps and the low power option, would these comments apply to all tube amps, not just the Revv?
@RevvAmps4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely we try to make all advice universal. Especially about finding the right amount of gain, how to set your EQ. etc. Just how to make your amp do what you want by understanding how the power amp comes into play.

First of all, thanks for kind words, ALWAYS appreciated. GREAT question. One of the many pearls of wisdom that Shawn dropped was about where to start with the amp. To paraphrase his response, he suggested start off by treating it like the 20 watt tube amp that it is. In the midst of peeling away the layers of what this amp CAN do, one can miss the 'classic' things it DOES do in common with other tube amps. To speak to your question, the 6V6s give it a lovely Deluxe Reverb vibe that sounds great straight into a cabinet, the 'matching' 1x12 cab especially. In the first video I suggested that people start with that cab in the Two Notes Torpedo Remote software (which are also settings 5 and 6 on the Virtual Cabinets rotary dial on the face of the amp) so they can use what they know about the amp as they wade into the virtual waters. Point being the starting place is a great tube preamp and power-amp. I'll speak to that more in the third video, so thanks for your comments. All virtual power amps and low wattage aside, this is a great 20 watt tube amp (the gain boost is AMAZING) and it is important to make sure that I 'don't miss the plot'. Thanks again ~ Doug:)

As someone who has never played a "hybrid" amp, nor have I played a guitar through computer software, I'm always unsure of where the audio is being heard in these types of demonstrations. When the player says that the audio is recorded "direct," what would they be hearing in the room while playing? In this video, were the amps connected to the speaker cabinets they are sitting atop? It's unclear to me if I were to buy this amp whether I would also need an audio interface, studio monitors, and a DAW in order to reap the full potential of the D20? It makes it seem out of reach when the presenter says that he is using two separate computers (oy!) to craft a beautiful stereo sound with two D20s. This product really appeals to me for its tone, size, and versatility, but as helpful as this video series is I still feel lost when it comes to step #1: how to setup a Revv D20 to utilize the TwoNotes software with a computer.
@RevvAmps4 жыл бұрын
Hey Alex! It's a full tube amp, you can play it right through a cab. So like any amp the main benefit is playing and enjoying it! Generally speaking a great home use to get the full benefit of the Two notes technology would be through studio monitors, when playing direct via XLR, yes! Depends on what you would like to do - if you would like to record, you would do so into a DAW. If you would like to simply play at lower volumes and have a wide variety of sounds, you could even plug directly into monitors or a powered speaker without even having an interface. Headphones if you're so inclined as well. If you simply want to control Two notes you can do so via USB and a program called Torpedo Remote.

Hey Alex! GREAT points, and MUCH appreciated. Not everyone is great at mic'ing up and am, nor can they get away with running a 20 watt amp at a reasonable volume at 2am. The direct out is intended to replicate the experience of what the amps sounds like via an XLR cable into your DAW or PA. This amp sounds GREAT in the room and makes it equally easy to capture that without having to use mic if you don't want to. KNOWING and having faith in what you're hearing is a REALLY important thing and did not fall on deaf ears here. As you know, next week's video is on using the D20 as a pedal platform, and that will give me a great opportunity to address some of this. Per the second computer, I wanted to let people know how I was deep editing both amps when using the Two Notes Torpedo Remote software. It's great software, but again, if you just want to plug in and rock out, computer not required:) Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback, MUCH appreciated!

@@RevvAmps Thank you for the very informative reply. I've been looking for a solution to play at lower volumes without sacrificing tone. The option to play through studio monitors seems like it would be ideal. And an audio interface really isn't required? The D20 could be connected to a computer via USB to use the TwoNotes software, and connected to monitors via XLR?

@@mcmillanalex Hey Alex! I just did a quick test and the D20 did not show up as an input source in Pro Tools. I'll check with the team, but I DO think you'll need an interface to use the Direct Out with your computer. Let me check with the gang and follow up. If that's the case there are a number of REALLY reasonably priced options out there:)

I finally got to try a D20. Wow is it over priced. It's a mediocre amp at best and doesn't sound as good as a lot of amps in lower price ranges. It's not a great pedal platform like it's claimed to be. Try before you buy glad I did. My 300 dollar UA Lion sounds and takes pedals better than this amp.
