The D3's First Job. Dream Team!

Finally got the D3 to the jobsite. I think I'm in love already.

Hey bossman, enjoy watching your videos. I know you and I don't know each other but I've been running equipment since I was 10 and I'm now 36. Not a huge fan of a root rake but different strokes for different folks. If you figure out how to move brush with just the blade you'll be better off in the long run. You'll figure out what I mean as you continue and get more seat time. The secret to moving brush with a dozer and keeping it clean is to learn to roll the brush. Think of it as rolling a ball with the dozer. Yea it's alot of short distance backing up but totally worth it. It will shake existing dirt out of the brush (instead of sweeping dirt up like a broom) and it's extremely low drag when rolling it which means you would be surprised what that 3 would move. We owned and ran a Cat 312BL and a D5M for quite a few years and then bought a 315BL also. You're doing great though and please don't take this comment as me trying to tell you what to do, just a few potentially helpful ideas. Have a blessed day!

You are doing a good job. I would suggest that you not make one long push without stopping. Make short pushes backup, which cleans the debris off your root rake, then start your push again for a short distance. It will help you a lot. I am very proud to see you growing your business. It shows hard work pays off. Congratulations.

I was taught not to push sideways with the turntable on an excavator, so I don't do it with mine if I can help it. I know those were little twig pines you were pushing over. The dozer looks awesome! It seems like the root rake would be even better if it had an extension that went up above the bucket, to protect the front of the machine, and push bigger piles of debris. Maybe something like that could be added one day. Man that is a dream dozer. Enjoy your videos.

I try not to abuse the machine pushing sideways. I know it's hard to tell sometimes but I'm babying it when I'm pulling sideways or pushing. And yes I want something on the front of the blade to keep sticks from jabbing into the front end and to push bigger piles. I can tell this dozer can handle way bigger piles than I was pushing

Lindsey glad to see you enjoy the Dozer. They are a game changer in the excavating business. And when your backing up from your push with the root rake lower your blade so the teeth drag the ground some it clear a lot of the stuff off. Don't think that I'm trying to tell you how to do your job because I'm not that kind of person. Because I learned lots of stuff on my own. I just don't ask anyone for help. But when my Dad or one of the Ole guys would tell me something I would soak it up. And it helped me a lot even in life. Man I can't wait to see the next video your doing great work out there. As far as having the cab open if you feel better with it closed I would close it. I wish we had closed cabs because I've been slapped and had stuff fly up on me lots of time. Be Safe Out There Man

@@smithworx1091 I tell you someone to watch that is good at cleaning debris off his rake is Chris Letsdig18. It's so smooth that you hear the rake hit the blade as it comes down.

@@smithworx1091 when I started over 40years ago we didn't use root rakes. We pushed with the blade if you get the pile to start rolling you can push further and cleaner. It took me awhile before I could get one to roll just right. But you'll figure out what works best for you.

First time viewer here.Loving the D3 and root rake.That root rake would probably work wonders on property where there’s invasive wisteria. When i first saw it on the back of the trailer my first thought was where are the pins at...then you mentioned about them after getting to property.. Lots of luck with the new toy!!

Lindsey man you are doing a great job with that equipment. Don't be hard on yourself you do a great job. I was gonna mention from watching your last video that it would probably be a lot easier on you and your equipment on the log moving part like from the road portion if you had a big heavy log chain and got half a dozen trees together and drug them with the dozer? It might be easier and faster to skid them at least out in the open more so you can push them. Anyway just my 2 pennies worth 😂😅. Super glad to see you having a blast on your new dozer.

After you spend some time in a next gen cat it's really tough to go back to an older machine or any other brand the next gens are laid out so well and so comfortable and powerful I love how light the joysticks are to move around being electric, don't get me wrong when things go bad they are a nightmare but everything new is when it breaks , a 349 or 352 next gen is my personal favs

I would have Spec’d that Dozer with a Rear Winch, that will Help in the Logging Department and also Balance Out that Dozer when it has that Root Rake on the Front. You would be Amazed what a Rear Winch on a Dozer can do, also Increases ReSale on that Dozer.

If you set the rake on the ground and back up so it turns up out and away from the bottom edge of the blade as far as you can. Then use a length of wood or even a length of metal that will hold it up or prop up against the blade. Then when you raise the blade up it should keep the rake up enough to clear the trailer enough for you to load the dozer without having to remove the rake from the dozer blade and then make transporting from job to job a little more easier! But it is your equipment so you do you brother. Awesome content on your videos 🤠👍

I've been thinking about your root break that you said you couldn't load that it hit can you weld an arm on the top of it that hangs back over the blade that you could put a chain in down to underneath the front of your dozer so that when you left that it pulls the root rake up out of the way so you could drive forward and then when you set the blade down it would set it back down

Yeah I think something like that will work. I've had a couple guys suggest swinging the rake up and scotch it. I'm gonna try it next time I have to move it. It doesn't like much and my tracks will make it to the ramps.

Mainly price and lead time. I wanted a 317 or 320. But the price increases were ridiculous. Cat had ordered 4 of these 313's that didn't have all the price increases like other machines. And they were about 2 months lead time. A 317 or 320 was nearly a year lead time.

You’re doing well but a Let’s Dig 18 progressive link thumb would help you be more proficient! Chris designed his thumb specifically for land clearing! The dozer and root rake will make moving and piling debris much faster! Also try backing the dozer onto the lowboy so you don’t have to take the rake off!

It's the LGP. I think it's 26 or 28 inch. I'd definitely go with the wide tracks. I love the D3. I could operate that machine all day

Load up your blade and then back up and get you another bite to roll your material as you progress toward burn pile. This will sift the dirt out of the debris and make burning quicker & cleaner

Now you need to figure out efficiency and how to save steps picking thru what you've taken down. Like the road you cut out you had stuff scattered all over both sides of the road. You'll figure out how to be efficient.

I have a bandsaw sawmill. Some logs are big enough. But most are too small. It's really aggravating trying to saw logs under 12"

They are big enough for pulp. But the mills around here aren't taking much. And they will only take it from the bigger logging companies. It's not enough acreage for a logger to come in and cut it.

Depends on how you look at it. The mills won't take pine pulp from me because I'm not a big logger. Big loggers won't cut small tracts like this.
