I love having Hermiod on the ship, shows that the Asgard trust us a lot and want to help but they don't trust all humans yet. It makes sense to put a lockout to prevent us from using the beaming technology to deliver weapons. The Daedalus is an amazing looking ship which looks truly like a military weapon.

Prometheus is a nice ship and it was amazing seeing it for the first time when we got it, but it's a prototype and it shows. It's rough around the edges. Now this thing, the Daedalus, it's a thing of beauty. We've been getting teased about the Daedalus for 4 episodes now (SG1 Moebius and SGA the Siege). Overall an amazing resolusion to this story. Even the Daedalus can't save Atlantis. Only a nuke. It's always a nuke.

Daedalus, from ancient greek mythology....was a skillful architect and craftsman, seen as a symbol of wisdom, knowledge and power. He is the father of Icarus. Among his most famous creations are the wooden cow for Pasiphaë, the Labyrinth for King Minos of Crete which imprisoned the Minotaur, and wings that he and his son Icarus used to attempt to escape Crete. It was during this escape that Icarus did not heed his father's warnings and flew too close to the sun; the wax holding his wings together melted and Icarus fell to his death. not, dead, but rather, daed, or Day-ed-a-lus

prometheus was a demigod that defied the Gods, especially Zeus and brought fire to the humans that lived like animals. He was punished by foreever being eaten by Zeus eagle, eating his liver by day and recovering by night (he was a demigod). Daedalus was the son of Icarus and they both were imprisoned by a king. They made wings and flew like gods but Daedalus was too proud and defied the gods, went to close to the sun and died. Icarus, the father, landed safely and cried over his dead son.

They did really well wrapping up this three parter. Even cloaking the city, we knew it was going to work since the story needs a satisfying conclusion, but we all still held our breath anyway. Then there's Ford and his predicament... I don't even want to know what it'd be like living inside his head. I feel for him, and for the Atlantis crew. He's a cool character, it was upsetting to see him go rogue like that. At the same time I mildly wanted to strangle him, but hey... drugs are bad is the lesson learned I suppose heh. And of course the moment between Everett and Sheppard, which was really touching, and probably a means to close a chapter on Sheppard's life as well, having some resolution on whether or not he did the right thing with Sumner. I didn't like Everett much when he got to Atlantis, he seemed very testosterone squared, but he became more human after that, and the way he ended up was... not deserved. Though it did somehow finish a character arc in a satisfying way. Anyways, great reactions to all of these :D Time to get back to some slightly more peaceful times.

Good gravy but I do love the multi-episode SG-1s and SGAs-they almost always set up for a new dynamic between characters, or protagonists, settings, etc. This multi-episode was epic, as was the one with the Storm heading to Atlantis when the Genii tried to take over. I loved Sheppard in that one-he showed his resourcefulness and courage, his quick thinking on his feet, his willingness to act alone if he’s all there is to take action. And with all that he keeps his wry and self-deprecating sense of humor. He very rarely loses his cool, so when he does he means business. Like when a character says he’ll only deal with Weir, not with Sheppard, because he’s just the errand boy. Sheppard says “That’s Lieutenant Colonel errand boy to you” lol. His sense of humor is similar to O’Neill’s, minus a lot of the cynicism. Anyway keep up the great work-I love your enthusiasm, it’s what makes watching these shows-which I’ve binge-watched repeatedly-remain fresh to me, even after multiple viewings. I also watch and love them in honor of my late husband-in the last months of his life when he couldn’t sleep from pain-cancer-we would stay up late and watch SG-1 and SGA for hours into the wee hours of the night. Besides loving the shows for their own merits, it makes me feel close to my late husband to watch them. So your enthusiasm just renews my appreciation and enthusiasm for them. We didn’t get into SGU too much, too dark at the time, and my husband was of a generation which didn’t have much appreciation for “artsy” camera work-just show the story dammit, would’ve been his take on it:)

That's amazing to hear, Melanie. Thank you for sharing that with me. And will do it! :) I Love to hear you're getting something new from these reactions. The multi-episodes for the most part, are great. Like you said, they set up or resolve old narratives well. Currently going through SGU atm, won't spoil my thoughts, but interested in wondering what you think of them if you check them out here!

One tiny headscratcher is that normally when the wraith cull a planet they dial the gate to that planet to prevent escape, yet they didn't do that here, didn't prevent reinforcements from earth. Granted they'd have to dial it almost 40 times a day for several days to keep it locked down long enough. But still even if they only dialed the gate after Atlantis was "destroyed" the jig would have been up, "that's weird, we can connect to this gate that was blown up". I guess it makes sense if they know about the gate shield and don't think about dialing the gate because they aren't intending on wasting troops through there.
@davidhowell7279
@davidhowell7279 Жыл бұрын
One theory is that they don't have the address. They have the addresses of the gates for the planets because they have been culling them for centuries. If they could dial the Atlantis gate, they would have used it against the Atlantians back in the day. When the ancients abandoned the city 10,000 years ago, they didn't leave the gate shield up. The wraith would likely have tried gating into the city at any point after that. Just a thought.
@dondumitru7093
@dondumitru7093 Жыл бұрын
@@davidhowell7279 If we did the math, how many gate addresses could the Wraith have discovered if they just exhaustively went thru every address from A to Z, dialing as quickly as they could, _for 10,000 years_? Alternatively, either gate addresses are physical addresses of the location in space (as alluded to earlier in SG-1), or gate addresses are just codes assigned to particular gates (as alluded to ... somewhere, I can't remember if this appeared in SG-1 or SG:A). In the former case, the wraith would _know_ the gate address for Atlantis. In the latter case, the Wraith would take apart a gate, and pull out the data from the gate-to-gate communications network, enabling them to learn all of the valid gate addresses. So, yah - writers can't actually be smart enough to know all of the possible things that "should" happen in the universes they create.
@davidhowell7279
@davidhowell7279 Жыл бұрын
@@dondumitru7093 I just re-watched season 1 episode 15. It established that the atlantis gate could block any or all outside gates(separate from using the force shield) . It doesn't say that this was done in this instance, but it could have taken place "off camera". They did seem surprised that someone could dial in. Of course they would have left the gate available for dialing from earth. You're correct. The writers should and turns out do know what should be possible. The Atlantis gate and dialing system is unique in this respect. Good stuff. Great show.

I absolutely love the BC-304 ships throughout the Stargate franchise from this point on. They’re so cool and so much better than the Prometheus. Some sci-fi fans have obviously made comparisons with the Battlestar Galactica, in terms of design. But, it’s still really cool and a great asset.😁👏😎I know you’re way ahead in episodes by the time you post these, but I’d noticed the production staff for the different Stargate shows use a subtle thing on the Bridge set to show which ship they’re meant to be on. Take a look at that large glass map display at the back of the Bridge. It’s either facing forwards or sideways, depending on whether it’s the Daedalus, Odyssey, Prometheus etc. 😉

I was so excited for you to see Daedalus. It is by far my favorite ship in the franchise. Maybe in all of sci fi. The long journey from Season 1 sg1 where they are struggling to get technology, slowly building up their understanding of science and tech, Iterating the X301 to x302, and jumping to (X303) Prometheus, and now this! It was such a smooth and thoughtful level up over the years. From a primative 90's based tech with flip phones and fax to a futuristic and advanced intergalactic contender. The greatest thing this show accomplished was making me believe the journey to where they are. If this was any other franchise, they wouldn't dare be as bold to develop this far, and would have continuous set backs that reset earth back to scratch, or prevent change from the status quo.

I somewhat agree. But, I suppose that the wraith scanners aren't sophisticated enough to tell the difference between the city being vaporized or that the pieces left behind are just too small to bother with. Also, up to this point, there is nothing pointing to the fact that they have the ability to search or go below the surface of the water. If they could, submerging the city in the first place would not have kept them from trying to get to it over the years. Just a thought.

At 12:24 it might be the cliché in TV & Film that I hate the most, and it's *so* ubiquitous: one character calling another over the phone or radio and saying some variation of "you should get down here" or "you'll want to see this" with no explanation given until the next scene when the summoned character arrives. Why can't you just tell me what it is over the phone/radio? Give me just a little bit of a clue as to what to expect? It's an example of behavior that only *ever* would happen on TV/Film and is in no way how anybody would ever act in real life.

Sheppard obviously was referring to it being pointless hoping Ford would be there, not that going there was completely pointless. They obviously went there for it off screen, they also needed to check if Ford happened to leave evidence behind for his actions. Not everything has to happen on screen for it to have happened.

@@failwhale34 Well of course I do 🤣 Probably gotta change my handle to SG1DieHard (Solioquy incoming 😄) Maybe I just have an issue with spinoffs not using enough of the original show's experience because SGA would've been a great stand alone show. SGU was even crazier than SGA so I don't know how that would've held up without SG1. I do forgive SG1 a lot of their shortcomings because it's the first time the writers encountered those plot lines but spinoffs have that background experience that can improve plot development which both SGA and SGU fail at imo.

There is something I really like about the Tau'Ri ships. They make extensive use of railguns. Looking into the specs of the railguns might seem a bit depressing as I think they are 20mm projectiles going 2KM/S (6560 FPS). This would make the kinetic energy better than the 35mm cannon and worse than a 40mm cannon. Therefore the weapons are not that powerful. What I really like is that the rate of fire is very impressive at around 500 rounds a minute. My head cannon is that the weapons use a Naquadah enhanced explosive charge, that is armed when the round is accelerated. Making the weapon a bit of a hybrid weapon. Unfortunately the Railguns are best used as a point defense weapon and inflicting damage on un-shielded ships. There is one more thing that I find ENDLESSLY funny. The Tau'Ri are FAST to use nukes. Someone said "The US was officially doing nuclear disarmament because SG-Command was using them all."
