When I arrived in Hong Kong, long before the Chinese to take back possession, I was able to ride from their Airport to my Hotel in a Daimler. It was truly grand transportation and HUGE inside. Happy memories.

A true British engineered gentleman's express that sadly disappeared and lost forever.

Years ago l was driving in Norfolk, Virginia one afternoon when l noticed a classic car up ahead. It was a huge Daimler limousine that appeared to be from the late 1940s or early 50s. It was a deep maroon color with black fenders. It looked like it was almost twice as tall as my car and it was the most beautiful automobile l ever saw. The only other time l ever saw one in person was in a car museum.

My brother owns a 1927 Daimler 20/70. The handbook servicing schedule It is based on driving approximately 1000 miles per month. and the vehicle came with a five year warranty on the chassis and running gear, one year on the body. A five year/100,000 mile warranty in 1927! Almost a centuary later Rolls Royce offers a four year warranty, Bentley three years.

You rarely see a Daimler in the USA. Occasionally I see a DS420 Limousine parked near Wall St in NYC. The first time I had ever seen one or knew that a Daimler existed was a trip to Canada in 1977.

Effectively the Daimler versions of XJ vehicles sold in the US and Canada were badged as ‘Vandan Plas’ or ‘VDP’ as they were known in the factory. The VDP had a Daimler spec inc the fluted grilles but were badged differently, pretty much the same spec for other markets outside of N. America were badged and sold as Daimler at the time up until the end of X308 production.

Of course the story continues, Jaguar now Ford, Leyland fell to BMW and finally Asia and so on, an embarrassment for British business leaders and government. Thankfully there's our innate abilities that brought us to global notice that will always remain. ☘️🇬🇧🙏

No idea, but if I were to hazard a guess, the uploader googled Daimler for a photo, and got a Mercedes Benz up. You know... Daimler Benz AG... And just used it. Extremely tenuous connection to the video, though, it must be said.

Why is Daimler not produced by Jaguar today?
@jannadrielcervo7753
@jannadrielcervo7753 3 жыл бұрын
It still is, but exists as a top of the line trim, just a Jaguar XJ Daimler. Kind of like how Mercedes today uses the Maybach name as the most expensive and luxurious top of the line S-Class. Or recently how Audi revived the Horch name as the most expensive and luxurious Audi A8 Horch.

Around 17:30 "big V8 engine". In what universe is 2.5 litres a big engine? The chassis flex problem was fixed very quickly. It was called a "Daimler Dart". The export model in the USA was called an "SP 250" because "Dart" was already taken by Dodge. This would be a much better video if it concentrated on the facts and toned down the florid sensationalism.

In 1950's Britain 2.5 ltr V8 in a little twoseater was huge. It's a shame Daimler got took over by Jag, who had the xk ohc . That 2,5 V8 should have been developed ,the bigger 4.5(?)V8 was essentially the same engine the capacity increased in stroke and bore. Had they kept the stroke and just bored it (easily done) you would probably be around 3.5lts and being 'oversquare' should have revved well, another one of histories what ifs.

Just a shame that Nora wasted so much time and effort on vulgar monstrosities. She had several years at that caper before Sir Bernard left under the cloud of an insurance scandal. By the time Jaguar took over, the production of Fleetline busses had dwindled to almost nothing - but it revived under Jaguar. Jaguar was a mixed blessing. It was good that Daimler versions of Jaguar cars were introduced. the 2.5l V8 did well. But Sir William already had a sports car in his range. He did not need the SP250. The larger V8 should have been used in the Daimler version of the 420: The Sovereign, (and possibly the Mk10), and the Majestic Major dropped - fine car though it was in many ways. I owned one, and some features were very crude. The leading edges of the front doors were tucked inside the trailing edges of the front wings. Yipes! Contemporary Jaguars were much better finished. And the perennial problem was that the British rarely bothered to sell their cars overseas - other than in the Empire, whereas everybody else sold their cars in the empire.

Despite the ghastly mismanagement which set this great marks demise into motion, like the Titanic amongst the icebergs, or pigeons amongst the house cats, it remains an absolute tragedy, that through practically criminal levels of neglectfulness, compounded by a pitifully complacent attitude towards such a historically significant brand, once coveted by royalty, the fate which has been allowed to befallen apon Daimler. Even considering how unknown they were outside of the UK, there was no attempt at marketing, or even the slightest effort towards a product line, turning this once proud mark into a plastic fluted parody based all too obviously off of an XJ Jaguar, with an inflated price tag, and almost insultingly so at that! Ford, and now Tata have indeed tossed a golden goose into the rubbish bin, but not before embarrassing the brand by using to describe a lesser car in drag. It's to be expected considering how the same rediculous treatment was given to Vanden Plas, without anyone of those grey haired, over privileged, legacy elitist dimwits, who grew to become the stale stuffing in overpriced suits, managing to learn anything at all from their past, obvious mistakes. Jaguar, and Landrover might be joining those brands who's murders Jaguars puppeteers set into motion, in the very same cemetery very soon. Maybe the ghost of the past are taking out their revenge by coming to claim their killer's soul! 😧😳😱☠️
