I was vegetarian for years, mainly for the health benefits. Finally went vegan a little over a year ago, for the ethical reasons. To my surprise, my decades-long minor acne cleared up in a week. And while I thought I might loose a few pounds, I ended up loosing 16 pounds of mostly belly fat, the most unhealthy fat, in three months. Without ever being hungry. So now I buy some chocolate almond milk and a little vegan "cheese". The cheese does cost considerably more than cow cheese. But healthier foods, like organic, often cost more. So I look at it that way, pay more for a cruelty-free product with little or no saturated fat, no antibiotics, and no mammalian hormones.

I use mainly soy milk, but lately I've been enjoying oat milk for my latte's. I also use a fair bit of coconut milk for cooking. Ditching dairy was the best thing I ever did. Evidently, I was mildly lactose intolerant. I may have never know this if it weren't for giving up dairy on a trail basis. I've never looked back, and that was 5 years, plus.

I have not purchased any dairy products whatsoever since March 2013. For the health benefits, I switched to the plant based eating lifestyle, mostly minimally processed, whole foods, and no added oil, at 59 years of age, at that time. The rewards are far beyond my expectations and seem to never stop coming. Currently, my favorite vegan milk is unsweetened almond. Thank you for posting this very informative video, as these messages are very important to get to the public.

My hubby liked cows milk on his cereal but i changed mine to almond milk. one day we ran out of milk so he had almond milk on his cereal. he didnt complain so i didnt buy any milk for a week. he had almond milk every day for a week on his cereal without complaint. then i bought a litre of regular cows milk. he poured it on his cereal, took one bite and immediately spit it out! he HATED the taste and the filmy layer it left in his mouth. he readily went back to almond milk and had never gone back to milk again!

I have lately been making my own plant milk at home. 1/2 cup hemp hearts. 4 cups fresh water , 1 tbs agave and vanilla to taste. I process in my Vitamix for a couple of minutes and pour into a big mason jar with a reusable lid. It's pretty, white , good and easy. No straining needed. I do make oat milk also , but I have to strain that and I think I will be doing the hemp milk from now on. My husband used to drink milk like crazy! He's been off that since about 2002. He loves my hemp milk.

Don't make me choose between soy, oat, and almond milk. I love them all! Ten months ago, I gave up dairy as part of a 1 week vegan experiment and the changes my body went through were far beyond my expectations. After 4 decades of constant consumption of dairy, I'd simply assumed that my joint pain, eczema, headaches, and heartburn were a normal part of life for a 45 year-old man. Nope. My body was just reacting normally to its daily infusion of cows' milk, a substance that never should have entered my mouth in the first place.

In the UK , dairy farms have either changed from dairy to beef or have increased substantial in size .Sadly the supermarkets have established a near monopoly in buying milk . There is however the start of a trend for farmers to produce organic , untreated milk and for the return of milk being delivered to the door from small local dairies who buy only from smaller local dairy farmers . As an example I have milk delivered to my house in glass returnable bottles at £0.67 per pint .

mike young Where did you get this info from? My own experience has been that the vegan options in the UK have been selling out so fast manufacturers can’t keep up with demand, so I don’t see how the same number of people could be consuming both more dairy AND more alternatives.

@@Melissa.Garrett Here are a few headlines/paragraphs from some news from a Google search. "Milk has a PR problem. Once a staple of the British household, milk consumption in the UK has fallen steadily over the last 70 years. In 2016, fresh milk sales were down by £54 million, according to research from The Grocer. In January of that year, the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) announced that one in ten British dairy farms had closed since 2013. Despite the UK being the third largest producer of milk in the EU, the AHDB published a report this July stating that, “the free-from dairy market has been developing rapidly and has been consistently in double digit growth for the past few years.” The British public has spoken. Cow’s milk isn’t the essential it once was." "Oat milk sales have surged by a whopping 71% in 2019, as Brits have bought over £36m worth of the dairy alternative. Meanwhile, coconut milk sales rose 16% and sales of almond milk increased 10%. Reflecting this, Swedish oat milk brand Oatly reported its UK sales shot up by 90% to £18m in 2018. The company expects UK sales will surpass £30m this year." "Plant-based milk the choice for almost 25% of Britons now Sales surge of 70% for oat alternative in 2018 alongside falling demand for cow’s milk"

I don't think a lot of them realize the actual implications of this. The massive culling of the herds mostly. Not going to touch on the farmers who love cattle seeing all their pets go to slaughter and their lives destroyed as they just consider them evil anyway.
@PatrickMcAsey4 жыл бұрын
@@BillyBob-qu1fs I don't think you realise the nonsense you talk. People won't stop using animal products overnight. This will be a long, slow process, although it will happen. There will be no 'massive culling' of herds (as opposed to the endless massive slaughter we have now) any more than there was a 'massive culling' of horses when we (relatively quickly) stopped using horses for transport. The very few cows left will be looked after in animal sanctuaries. Strange, isn't it, how meat eaters suddenly become concerned at the imaginary 'massive culling' of animals? Strange - and hypocritical. Don't believe in their crocodile tears.
