I don't put much stock in the speed of the snap, as some coaches teach spiral and some a lob snap. Also, centers choose. Also, it takes at least the same amount of time to execute a 5 or 7 step drop from under center than it does a 1 to 3 step drop from a shotgun. Timing adapts via repetitions. The speed of the snap matters very little. However, all things equal: Take the spiral.

Great insight! I've been jonesing for football, so I've been rewatching games from last year: not only were the snaps slow: sometimes they were late, and off-target, and Mordecai had to leap to get them. Bortolini was a guard who was literally learning on the job.

Really good interview with a lot of great insights into the scheme, but I strongly disagree with Ryan's take on under center vs shotgun. Under center allows the running back to move before he gets the ball, which allows him to get to the line faster. Also under center allows for better play action because run and pass look the same at the start of the play, which freezes the linebackers, and it allows for bootleg. There are clear tradeoffs otherwise no one would ever go under center.

Even Acker against LSU in the Bowl game, they had the defense going one way, they walled them off, and Acker cut back and went vertical for a long td as a power runner.
