The Dalai Lama turned 89 on July 6. He shared a birthday message for Tibetans all over the world, thanking them and also addressing fears about his ill health. There are also speculations about his succession. In an exclusive interview with THE WEEK in 2019, the Dalai Lama had categorically said that reincarnation was not important and that Indian-origin Buddha dharma is the core.
