Not really, as the vast majority of the time we see a fleet of Daleks, it's usually had to be met by stupid amounts of force. The war between the Daleks and the time Lords nearly destroyed the entire universe. The prison cell of Daleks that escaped and were fighting the Cyberman on Earth, they literally had to rip a hole in time in space. The massive Fleet heading towards Earth, Rose had to literally look into time itself and gain the ability to rewrite time.

I think it's less like they're cannon fodder and more like their threat level doesn't increase or decrease. The stakes do not feel proportionately higher to the number of daleks. One dalek seems as dangerous as a thousand. If one is unstoppable, then it's not different if you have more. When I think on the xenos, it's the same. One is the perfect killer, and a hive is unstoppable except when someone nukes it from orbit. The marines did get pretty quickly dispatched and the predators in the movies and comics were also no match for a bunch of them.

We probably wouldn’t have Doctor Who. When the first episode didn’t bring in impressive ratings (understandable, Kennedy had been shot the day before), the BBC wanted to cancel the show after the first thirteen episodes. It just so happened the second story on the docket was Terry Nation’s ‘The Daleks’, which did bring in high ratings for the Christmas season and saved the show. In other words, the Doctor was saved by the Daleks... and they never thanked them, that must be why they hate the Doctor.

Dunno about daleks Someone darker and more sinsister as a compaion would contrast the doctor well though. Not like Missy but more like "I'm the darkest thing you know. Yet also the one that teaches." The harsh methods have a logic you see. If someone family is executed before their eyes and they still join the killer willingly then there's something happening there to bring them together. Meanwhile good intention and moal high grounds will create such events. So episodes that get into the grey areas would certaintly be entertaining. Provided it's all done clearly with reason and purpose even if it makes people sick to the stomach. It has to be that way for full effect. Older movies and shows weren't afraid to show the ugly harsh truth. That's why the film "Stalingrad" (1993) has civilianz and even kids shot. Yet the soldiers ordered too hate what they do. Missy in contrast has learned to make the best from the worst. There's events between these two areas. That is so often misunderstood and taken at face value. Dr Who could be a show where it can display that. We get rare moments where it does. The complete and total ERASION of the older Amy Pond for example. A fate worse then death. But the reasons for why this happens is explained clearly (even if the dr is being a deluded liar at the time. She's real damn it). So it gives the needed "Umph". That one Cyberman that saves the planet might have been a good fit for that. Someone to challenge the doctor. Someone to call him out on his own delusion and hypocrisy. Someone that never goes "you should" or "I tell you what to think". Someone that will only let you make your own actions and live by them. For better and for worse. Even if they lead by the example of a ruthless deprived villain. Someone other then Davros of couse. Someone that can stand. Look the doctor in the eye when challenged by his "moral speeches". And calmly reply with "And look at how your pretty speeches fall in the face of a tactical advantage". Put the Doctor in more situations where there's something to lose and something to gain. Instead of just winning all the time. Amy Pond. Or a child. Backed up against the wall by the deleks. One will live, the other will die. Ten seconds to decide. Choose Doctor. Choose. Choose! CHOOSE!

For me Sec was the best example that deep down the Daleks are not such a lost cause. Sec originally chose the human he bonded with because it was a cruel, selfish bastard, so by logic combining them should have created even a worse monster. Instead Sec, who was the dominant organism, chose compassion, which means when you give the Daleks the ability to feel emotions again, it will show they themselves are good natured creatures under all that blown up hatred.

Sydney: Whatever. Verity: They used to be like us Sydney, but nuclear wars have made them hate anything that isn't them. It is strong stuff, good stuff and I believe in it. Sydney: You better be right about these Daleks! After the broadcast Sydney: Well done kiddo, 10 million viewers. Thank god for Verity Lambert, if it was some other producer who didn't support the idea of the Daleks then Doctor Who wouldn't have lasted long. Unfortunately, the success created by The Daleks didn't happen in the way portrayed in An Adventure In Space & Time at all. In reality, audience figures didn't really start to pick up until around the third episode of the serial, and they didn't break the 10 million barrier until episode 6 - the penultimate episode! Treat AAIS&T with extreme caution. It's full of deeply misleading details that never really happened. This is well worth a study; - www.kaldorcity.com/features/articles/spaceandtime.html

2:45 🤣. 17:00: It's still one of the better scenes in the series: the conversation between Matt Smith's 11th Doctor, Jenna Coleman's Oswin the Dalek and Nick Briggs voicing what she doesn't. The first time one hears that theme song as she tells him to run. Then Jenna breaks the fourth wall..."and remember". It's also finally time for a Dalek to urge subscription or face maximum extermination.
