The Dallas Stars fail to close out Colorado in Game 5: Special teams and Stars for Avs extend series

The Colorado Avalanche win game five by a final score of 5-3 to extend the series and their season. The Dallas Stars had multiple leads in the game, but the Avalanche special teams were a key factor in the win. Cale Makar, Nathan MacKinnon and other star players for the Avs showed out in a big way. Miro Heiskanen was the Stars best player as he picked up his 4th goal of thr series, also Joe Pavelski scored his first goal of the playoffs. To be fair it was tipped up front as I believe that was supposed to be a back door pass to Lehky. Avs finally got some good bounces in this one when they hadn’t had one in the last 3 games.

Finishing off the Avalanche was never going to be that easy, but if we are going to finish them off we’ve gotta tighten up more; Otter wasn’t terrible and made some big stops but I’d say that 2nd Makar goal he’d definitely want back, we also need to do whatever we can to stay out of the box that is ultimately what killed us last night imo.

It's hard to win 4 straight against any team, much less the Avs. I'm glad that Game 6 is in Dever. The boys will be able to hunker down an focus on getting the W. Stars in 6!

Uugghh 😖 Oy Vey! Gonna be tough to close it out on the road...but this team is one of the best on the road in the reg season and in the playoffs. They are 2-0 in Denver and if they come out like the previous 3 games, then they should be okay and close it out. Otter will shake it off and tonight wasn't all on him. He made some amazing saves. Keep the faith and we will see how it plays out on friday.

Very disappointed in the performance, tonight, by the Stars. Can't let a team like the Avs off the mats. I hope they can close it out on Friday night. Hopefully, Seguin will be okay and Hintz can play in Game 6.

The Stars have to play game 6 like it’s 7. Hopefully Seguin and Rupe Hintz will be good enough to go on Friday night. They can’t let Cale Makar have any space to operate on the ice 🧊 that goal should not have happened Oettinger had to make that save.

Been an off series for the Avs. Obviously the Nuke issue all but guaranteed a loss in game 4 I think if that didn’t happen Avs probably win that game.

I don't think it's likely we come back on you to win the series-especially without Nichuskin. Dude is an elite defensive player,point per game offensive player who was top 5-or very close- in PP goals in the NHL reg season-despite missing 29 games. You guys have definitely got some breaks-last 2 series vs us. Remember OT of game 7 in the bubble-when we vastly overachieved losing 6 regulars,& 2 goalies-Michael freakin Hutchinson ALMOST backstopped 3-1 series comeback somehow. But I'm very happy the Avs showed heart,pride,& fight to force game 6,& not let that garbage game 4 be the last hockey game at Ball this yr. I work at the arena,& at the very least-we get to work 1 more game,& got to work another prep day yesterday. I don't think you are the better team when we have Nichuskin-we outplayed you game 3- but thats hockey sometimes.Process doesnt always lead to result far more than in any other sport. And kinda gave you game 2.(4 combined too many men/delay of game penalties-ive never seen that before. Usually penalties are forced by the opposition to some degree-but those are the 2 penalty exceptions that have almost nothing to do with the opponent-just careless & dumb on the team commiting them)But certainly Dallas is better without him,& deeper at forward even when we had him. I do have a feeling we win tonight-before losing game 7 in Dallas. A coworker asked me yesterday morning what I thought both the Avs,& Nuggets would do. I didn't think the Nuggets would lose by 45-but didn't think the Nuggets would beat Minnesota 4 straight-3 on the road.And I didn't think the Avs would lose all 3 home games-we did have the best home record in the NHL-& I know you had the best road record. But I expect we will see 2 game 7s on Sunday.Avs will lose in Dallas,& I'll be working the Nugs game 7-which I expect they'll win-despite last nights attrocity-& play the Mavs in WCF-as I predicted before the playoffs. I thought both these series would go 7 before they started-but not the order either has gone,& Nichuskin situation changes so much in EVERY aspect of the game-except goaltending obviously.But whatever happens this weekend-I respect your team. I'll never pull for Dallas cuz of Duchene-for obvious reasons in the past,& Benn,& Marchment (just like his dad-RIP)-are 2 of the dirtiest players in the NHL. The 3 Avs goals in the 3rd period were all 5v5. Had nothing to do with special teams.

Dallas had more PP attempts as well, including a 6 on 4 that they couldn't convert.

If the Av's manage to pull off the miracle, I'll be beyond thrilled, but I'll also acknowledge that Dallas probably has the best roster in the league top to bottom right now. Curious what this team will look like in the next year and beyond. A lot of UFA's and RFA's.

I really hope Seguin is okay to continue. I hope we get and update on Seguin and Hintz today. We need them both in Denver. As for last nights game, we gotta stop letting this happen and in our building. We are by far the better team. Avs keep waiting until the 3rd period of games to show up to the game and they keep finding a way to either catch up or catch us slipping up (game 1 and 2). This was game 5 and the first time they’ve gotten and held a lead. We are the better team. We can shut them down in their building but we have to come out swinging and keep pressuring Mackinnon,Makar and Lehkonen line every time they’re on the ice. They rely too heavily on these three guys to carry the team. And when they’re together they find a way to produce most of the time. They’re down one of their key PWF and we need to take advantage of that. Im not worried about EDM or VAN. We can potentially sweep them both regardless but a few days of rest is probably needed for us. We just gotta shut this down in game 6. Do not give up a series lead and let them force a game 7.

What was it everyone was saying? Stars for the Avs needed to shine? They did. Also, Bednar rolled his 3rd and 4th lines more than he had in a while. Those two lines are animals that Bednar just points in a direction and hopes for the best.

Otter just needs to shake off the loss and the D needs to not be complacent. We generated some good looks but we need to stay physical, if we put in a good bit more effort with our checks it was an easy win. But we let up in the 3rd period and allowed them to take control.

Otter is Otter. Just when you think he's found it and you're expecting great things he doses off and checks out. It's been a pattern for awhile. He was just bad period. The Stars not only losing but losing another lead, twice in this one, and getting thumped in the third was exactly what the Avs needed. They gave new life to a dying animal and now they'll be under siege in Denver and It's highly likely headed for a game 7 where anything can happen. If they'd have lost 4-3 or 3-2 in OT I would feel better but they got run over in the 3rd when they had dominated the series for all but 2 3rd periods both on home ice. Smdh.........pissed off is a huge understatement. This team struggles with success.

Honestly, I am a diehard Stars fan, and I know this is negative to say, but I have a feeling we are losing this in 7. It's just too perfect. We had the chance to sweep them, we should've swept them, and we let them back in. Whoever wins game 6 wins the series. If the Avs extend it, they win it in 7.
