Another common safety tip is to let someone know your plans (e.g., route, expected finishing time) and to plan to check in once you're done. That way if anything happens and you dont check in they can take the necessary next steps.

as always very informative video, thanks for that! i think it's also generally important when you're traveling alone, whether on a via ferrata, climbing or just hiking in the mountains...you should always tell someone, preferably friends, family, relatives where you're going, where you might be and when, and maybe send a text message or make a quick call that everything is ok...greetings from austria, vienna!

Great video! I really liked what you mentioned, at the beginning of the video, about "the devils" - the thoughts, you might have, while climbing. I had them and of course, they appeared high on the Via Ferrata, with wind blowing strong and a heavy section in front of me.

Thanks again for your video, always good content. I'm also mostly doing via ferratas alone. Short ones are ok, under 1h. Above 1h and above 2000m are tricky to do them alone but a calm mind, good mental and fizical preparation are key, along with technical expertise. Thx ❤

Great advice here! Unfortunately I'm also in a situation, where I have to climb alone most of the times, as none of the people are that interested as I am in doing ferratas in my group. I have a handful of routes under my harness, but I have also let someone know each time where I am, what I'm doing etc. Also, as someone already mentioned within the comments, ferrata routes nowadays are kind of busy, I had like 1 or 2 times where no-one was there at all (Hungary and Romania), but most of times there was a guided tour or just some group climbing on their own. For me, the inner demons vanish on the rock, that's why I climb. When It is only me and the rock face, it helps a lot to forget stuff like personal or professional life problems. I'M NOT ENCOURAGING ANYONE TO GO ALONE OF COURSE!!! Be prepared and know your limits! If in doubt, don't go or have more experienced/professional people with you!

Hi, I agree with everything JSY explained. I go out by myself (often there is nobody around, especially in the week), I have my Inreach Mini 2 but try to do things carefully, taking my time, resting if necessary, having the proper gear and checking the weather forecast a few times before I decide for a VF. Sharing those moments is definitely nice but facing difficulties just by yourself is kind of therapeutic and the strong feeling of being one thing with the nature around is priceless. These days most VF routes are busy so you're not often alone, plus if you fall it may be very difficult to call for help dangling on a rope. This happened to someone in Switzerland a while back but he got in a quick call then dropped the phone, obviously a helicopter couldn't land so he had to wait for a rescue team. I go alone on routes up to grade E.

I have also been on a guided VF route of D- where someone fell but no injury, the guide had no extra equipment so just climbed down to help her manually

I agree BUT I do not have anyone to join me on such tours and hiring a guide is just too expensive, so it stays a solo trip

Hey! im planning a solo via ferrata trip in the dolomites! any reccomendations on the best town/village to use as a base to hike to some good via ferrata routes from? I have done a good amount of indoor sport climbing over the last year and a half and am very fit but this will be my first via ferrata, im looking for exposed and "exreme" routes!!

I once travelled 4h by train & bus only to realize that I had forgotten my carbineer set, so had to hike up a dam to the restaurant to rent a set which was old and poor quality then start all over again...

I keep forgetting the helmet or the backpack. I don't know why. Maybe because I store them in hard to reach places, not so obvious.
