I believe it was George South or Ricky Steamboat that said when you're down, you never look like you're dead. You always look like you're trying to make a comeback or even tensing a muscle or making a fist to make fans believe you're not done yet.

This isn't exactly the same thing, but it feels related: One of my pet peeves when I'm watching a match is when someone gets rolled up, and they just freeze in place until it's time for them to kick out. Why aren't you moving, wiggling, trying anything you can to get out of it? You're not knocked out, you should have full awareness of what's happening and that you're on the verge of defeat. Especially if it's either at the start of the match or if the babyface got you in a rollup during your heat, you should be still very alert and active, so you shouldn't just be sitting there. Plus it means when you roll up to your feet and clobber the daylights out of the babyface, it makes sense that you still had all that energy and now you're MAD! They almost stole the win, now you're really gonna beat the tar out of them!

In my head, the logic is that kicking out at one makes you "spend more energy", while using the three count time for resting makes it easier to kick out at the last moment

@Mr_Leo_DS Well I don't mean kicking out at one, I just mean looking like you're trying to kick out until you eventually do. Being folded up upside down is not a pleasant position to be in, especially if it could cause you to lose the match, so unless you were knocked loopy before the roll up, I would think that generally you would be actively trying to get out.

@Mr_Leo_DS kicking out at one means more energy, kicking out at 2.999999 means you're running on fumes

I feel the same. That sort of thing can really take me out of a match.

you should add one more actually for example rey mysterio lie cheat and steal same with eddie gurerrero that when a bad guy or what ever or good depending would bring in a chair and the ref is distracted that they would clink a chair not actually hitting their opponent but act like they got hit instead also works to win the match i seen it on both ends as rey being good and eddie being bad guy

Selling itself is unrealistic cause in combat sports you're always told not to show pain, or your opponent will smell blood in the water and pounce on it. That's why wuen old time griftere say selling is what makes wrestling a "realstic simulation" of combat, it's so funny to me. Selling is an art but it does not make wrestling realistic. Forgot the octagon, think trying to do a Ric Flair sell during a bar fight.
