My brother got a tablet years ago that was refurbished. I remember him using it and it worked just fine. Then, one day, it began to slow down. Apps opened slowly and frame rates on games dropped drastically. We thought maybe it was a bad internet connection, but our home wifi signal was good. He looked through a list of apps and noticed all of them in English except one in Chinese. He used google translate on another device and saw that it translated to "Camera" in Chinese. Makes sense because the app icon was a camera lens. Thinking this suspicious, he deleted the app and his tablet returned to normal. He did some research and we think that this app was fraudulent somehow and was possibly streaming what was happening on his tablet. Maybe someone hoped to catch him entering passwords or something. No idea why this mysterious app was using so much resource power while hiding the fact that it was even running.

I have the same problem with my Huawei Y6 it's became slow as fuck, the battery life decreasing and my phone storage reduced from 16g to almost nothing I deleted all my apps and it still has memory of 98 to 99% so I had to constantly clean and even stopped my self from going to the internet. One day when I was cleaning I saw an app that I have never seen that you can't search or look up on my phone at all, while cleaning I saw a particular app that was kind of secretly running the cleanind I noticed this when I saw the text next to it saying WeChart in progress, so far its the only hidden Chinese app on my phone and it destroyed my storage, speed and battery life yet I have never used it not even once and when I constantly have to clean it is the one that sought off indirectly runs it, I would never have realized it if I didn't see a documentary on it on KZbin the only way I might use it was to delete everything

I have a Xiaomi mi max 2. Fab phone, massive screen, good camera and huge battery - £220 with global rom, also beautiful design. My previous phone was Samsung Note 8 - hated the aspect ratio of the screen, terrible fingerprint location. Gorgeous camera, though - but worth £900? Not a chance. People need to know that a lot of Chinese phones won't work on band 20 in UK, so that excludes O2, Sky mobile, Giff Gaff and Tesco.

Well, in China newer phones are made to be "full range network accessable" (required by code I think), but that "full range" is only "the full range Chinese carriers can use", and there are only 3 carriers in China so... I guess it's really hard to tell if a phone works somewhere else, and the chance might be pretty low.

I always liked Huaweis, the camera, the system all. But duo the problem with the US (I'm European) the phones now will have a different store and other things. In characteristics, for me, usually, really good phones and cute design. iPhones are not bad but I don't see the Apple system better than the Android. My actual and past phone was bought online, it's not a brand that we see in physical shops, at least here. Because of customs fees I don't buy directly from China, but look the same or an equivalent in a seller from Europe, specifically Spain in my case because as a portuguese its way easier ship from Spain. What I see is online we can buy good phones, way cheaper and it will do really well what it's expected.

I've been using Chinese phones in the US for a long time without any problem. The problem is, if you wanna use a phone from the US in another country, chances are it cannot work properly, especially for those contract phones.

yaorong guan I will concur. USA runs a quad band - dual format(gsm/cdma) cell system. Every phone works here... just not the other way 'round... for that, typically only high-end devices or devices marked as "world phones" will work overseas from the USA.

Newer generations of AT& T and T-mobile GSM network phones should work outside of North America without issues. Att does use a different bandwidth than other GSM networks but their phones should work on any GSM network, and the reverse should also be true with newer models.The issue is with the Verizon and Sprint CDMA phones, unless you get a model that has both GSM/CDMA capabilities such as the Samsung G8 etc. Most mid to high end phone models that Verizon sells should have both capabilities that it is best to check to make sure the model you get has both network capabilities.

Can recommend Xiaomi. Bought a Redmi 4x and we’re happy with it, even though I’m quite critical and nitpicky with phone features compared to most consumers. I did root it, wipe it and flash a custom ROM. For privacy, and to reduce bloat/battery drain, as well as add more features. Camera did not wow me, otherwise worked well. I feel that the fingerprint scanners is more responsive than an iPhone scanner, with sweaty fingers.

I also recommend Xiaomi. I have the Note 10 Pro. Only thing you need to disable are the constant ads whenever you open any folder, gallery or app, otherwise it feels strange when your photos are separated by a large commercials...

You are so right about Mobile phone coverage in China, it is awesome. Yet to find anywhere that has no coverage, that includes all of the metro systems (underground), in supermarkets and shopping malls, inside lifts (elevators), out in the country miles from anywhere, mountain tops, just everywhere. Rest of the world surely has to go a long way to catch up on coverage.

As a United States citizen I always have the thought of "why don't all the white South Africans just leave" but I have to remember how people form bonds to the land they grew to know and love. I've purchased 2 Chinese phones Xiaomi and Meizu delivered to US (soon to be 3 getting another from Huawei) and i have had no issues with play store, i ordered on Aliexpress and eBay. Most sellers put the play store on it before shipping. They also come with the other Google apps besides the play store, even the "native play store" (the phone companies play store) isnt in Chinese but english. Entire menu is also in English. Just so people know most chinese cell phone manufactures have a "global version" for many of their phones (depends on the model, some don't have global roms). This means you can set the phone up for whatever launguage you need. Even if it isnt a global version, the chinese version still usually has option for english. So this is not so much of an issue really. The main thing you have to keep in mind is the signal bands to make sure you have good connectivity for your area and service. Other than that, there are alot of great phones to offer from these Chinese companies especially from the budget and midrange category that the USA is seriously lacking. I know many people who don't really know of phones past Apple, Samsung or LG and that's really a shame.

I don't watch CNN and Trump is not my president (although I do take into consideration that You might've meant "you" as all people outside of China). Well, I've been to China more than once I liked it there and I know a thing or two about how things work. The infrastructure is similar to other countries (I'm obviously not talking about 2nd/3rd world countries..). It works well in the cities but between them sometimes it's not doing so well. You completely did not get what I wrote. I meant that there are no real equivalents of sites like KZbin, Netflix, Facebook or Instagram in China. Every one of those generates huge traffic on the "lines". Since You mentioned US I heard that Netflix takes up ~30% of entire broadband so it essentially weighs it down. In China I did not see people mindlessly taking pictures of their drinks/ meals for posting on social media..All those things take up bandwidth. If You travelled to Western countries You could notice many people watching KZbin or Netflix on mobile devices. I'll only say that Gmail alone shoves ~60+ GB of email text (only!) per Second(!) Now imagine video and pictures.. The funny thing is that You replied to my comment twice within 7 minutes window. That means You ether forgot to add something before hitting "Reply" or You've read it second time and treated it as another comment. Actually no. Even if everything is blocked there are still many video sites in China you can use. Also you can unblock yourself if you have the right knowledge, and watching KZbin in China at 1080p isn't that hard, though not always stable. The real reason why the network isn't super crowded, well, firstly all base stations are built by the same company (China Signal Tower Company, or something like that), and then used by all the carriers, and thus you usually get pretty good infrastructure unless some people who afraid of "radiation" of those towers want them down. Also, data is overpriced when considering the average wages in China. And thus you usually don't get a lot of data. If you don't get enough data, you don't weight down the network enough to make an impact.

LOL, what is being desperate to make a sale got to do with being smart. Just as likely they thought he was a gullible foreigner - until he spoke Chinese. Western Countries have laws around wages and conditions and the building you are standing in - all these add to the cost, which is why things are more expensive. In Chinese families you are expected to work in the family business for free - free labour right there. Many years ago, people started using salespeople as knowledge bases, then they would leave the store and buy at a warehouse outlet. Why put the time and effort to know about a product if most of the enquiries don't end in a sale - this is what people don't understand and is why we have such shitty sales people. Good salespeople cost money, and that money needs to come from somewhere.

GSM phones will work everywhere up to 3g. CDMA phones will not provided they do not support GSM as well. LTE is tricky everywhere. The EU uses bands 3, 7, 20 mostly while the US uses 4, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 17, 26 and also AWS mode and the number keeps growing. Asian countries like China uses 38 39 40 and 41 in TDD mode unlike the rest of the world which uses FDD... When LTE was in its infancy you could not buy a LTE enabled phone that worked in 2 markets unlike today which most phones will have some support for other markets. We still have a long way to go before we can find a true world phone.

Similar experience using a Korean smart phone. They have some cheap ones but they are full of apps that are just useless unless you understand the language sans the no google access thing. I have to say that is one of the quickest phone purchases I have ever seen though. Here in the states the Verizon store could be empty and you still have to wait for 20 minutes for someone to even ask why you are there.

I was stationed in Korea twice so I wasn't completely lost, the second time. Not everything displayed in English, icons for example. The first time I had a Korean phone I had no clue as it was just a dumb flip thing. Tiny and really cool but not very smart. It did txt though which was science fiction in the states at that time. lol That was in 1999.
