The term "co-dominant stems" is when two or more main stems (or "leaders"), that are about the same size, emerge from the same location on the main trunk. As the tree grows older, the stems remain similar in size without any single one becoming dominant. This is important to recognize because these trees are more likely to fall dur
ing a storm or high wind, or as they age and the connection point grows weaker.
If you notice this on your tree(s), the best time to act is while the tree is still young. However, we know that is not always possible.
